Thanks for all the ideas, I hadn't thought of very many on my own so this really helps.  Tonight I had a small bowl of cheerios when I got home from work at 6, it's now 8:30, we're just cooking dinner and I'm not feeling guilty about too many calories, and I'm not starving and ready to polish off a stick of butter or something.  LOL!

The Lounge cold weather and eating? Oct 02 2009

I'm from Syracuse so I can relate!!  When the weather turns cold, my oven turns on!!  Wink  I LOVE to bake when it's cold outside (and eat the fruits of my labor, of course).  Sometimes I bake 3-4 times a week, it's pretty bad.  I also love the crock-pot during the cold months, made chili last night and was sinful about it....sour cream and cheese on top!  Yum!  My food choices are much healthier during the summer.

When I was 22 I walked away from probably one of the sweetest people I had ever met because I didn't think I was good enough for him.  I was just coming out of a bad relationship and my self esteem was at an all time low, I was convinced he deserved better than me.  Now that I'm older, it makes me sad to think that I was so hard on myself.  That guy was totally into me and I pretty much slammed the door in his face because I "knew he could do better".  I was a silly young girl...I would have been a great catch for anyone back then.  At any rate, no regrets now, I married an amazing man and I hear "the one that got away" is happily married as well.  We are our biggest critcs, it's hard not to be so judgemental of ourselves...we have to live and learn.

I have the same problem...I don't wear short shorts, mid thigh maybe, and they still creep up.  Damn thighs.  I refuse to wear shorts anymore when running, instead have opted for knee length or just past the knee capris.  They have them in really light weight materials and they're WAY more comfy than having to yank shorts out of my crotch every 10 steps.  Surprised

Good luck!

Salsa!!  Yum!  Full of flavor, low cal and fat free!  Sometimes I'll toss some light sour cream on there too, it's very taco salad-esque.  I LOVE it!

Giant climate controled dome over CNY sounds perfect!!!  What a great idea!  I really miss running outside, I just started running in October so I only got to enjoy being outside briefly.  I can't wait to get back out there again.

We're practically neighbors, I live in Liverpool.  I met another poster here who is from Camillus.  It's such a tiny world!

Reporting to you directly from Syracuse, NY I can relate 100%.  I too awoke to lake effect snow squalls, a treterous drive into the office and cold sharp winds blasting me on my way into the building.  I'm sick to death of this weather.  I think February and March are the hardest months to be in the Northeast.  Spring never comes as early as it does in southern PA or MD.  Every winter I threaten to leave this dreadful state, but by June all is forgiven.  Then February comes again....

Hang in there, we're almost there!!  Cool

Ditto on the laughing cow, spray butter and turkey everything.  I didn't know 35 calorie bread existed!  I'll be looking for it on my next shopping trip!

Sugar free chocolate pudding cups and sugar free cool whip - what a delicious way to end the day, and only 80 calories!

Whole wheat pitas!  1/2 pita has only 75 calories.

GUM!!  Sugar free Extra has tons of different flavors that really do quiet my sweet tooth! (MOST of the time)  ;o)

This is likely old news, and maybe not sexy enough for you choc-oholics, but me and the missus just discovered these oats & chocolate Fibre1 bars at Costco(http://www.fiberone.com/Product/bars.aspx?key =chocolate). This is the best tasting nutritious bar I've found so far and it satisfies my sweet tooth.

They sure are tasty, just be careful of those things!  The hubster and I call them 'fartbars'.  Stand back!!  Wink

I'm with everyone else on the sf pudding cups.  I love chocloate with 1/2 banana and a tbsp of sf cool whip!  125 delicious calories.  Sans the banana it's only 75 calories.  Yippee!

Hi there -

I concur with everything everyone else said.  I have been working out religiously since October, no less than 4x a week.  I tried (I use that word very loosely) to change my diet but wasn't commited to it, I was still eating tons of sugar and carbs.  I saw excellent results on the treadmill, but very little results on the scale.  A couple of weeks ago, I revamped my diet, no more refined flour, only whole grains and in limited amounts.  More protein, fruits and veggies and no more junk food (well, I still indulge in sugar free pudding w/cool whip and bananas).  In one week I lost 5lbs, I was shocked!!  Diet has everything to do with weight loss.  I was KILLING myself in the gym, and while I was super psyched with my endurance progress, my muffin top was proof that I was still doing something wrong!  hahaha.  I'm happy to report it's finally relieving me of it's presence.

A change in diet is very tough at first, but the more you play with your food options, the easier it gets.  Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi there - Congratulations on the awesome progress you've made!  That's fantastic!

I ran into the same problem with boredom on the treadmill, then I came across the plan in the article below.  I love it, it keeps things moving and I don't get bored, my time on the treadmill goes by a lot faster now.  Good luck!

Hi there - If you're only eating 500 calories a day, that is not nearly enough. You should enter your info, height, weight, etc., along with your goals, into the tools provided on this site, it will in turn give you your recommended daily calorie needs to reach your goals. You most likely burn close to 2000 calories a day, just by being alive and doing your normal every day tasks. It's recommended that you don't have more than a 500 calorie deficit (meaning you should eat at LEAST 1500 calories a day). Otherwise, your body will go into starvation mode and if losing weight is your goal, you'll lose very little. Use the tools, they're very helpful...as are the other people on this site.

I know exactly what you mean.  You're not talking about pelvic bones, they're ab muscles...lower ab muscles.  Very hard to obtain but, imo, very sexy on either gender.  For me I'd have to lose some lbs off my hips and waist so those muscles can come shining through.  I'm with you, I love the look and hope to have it one day too!

Bigbitty - take a gander at the picture of Ryan Reynolds a previous poster has in his gallery (tommy21pmp), you'll see what she's talking about and that your nasty comments were uncalled for.

Janay - Way to go on seeing 150.2!!  Wooo hooo!!!  You're soooo close!!

I hear ya on wanting warmer weather!  I was grumbling to myself all the way to work this morning about the cold/snow/ice.  We haven't seen temps above 15 in well over a week.  I hope this cold snap ends before I lose my mind.  I'm 1/2 way there as it is!  Surprised

Aside from the yucky weather, everything is going much better on the weight front.  I decided my diet needed a makeover, I was staying within my calories but it was mostly junk, so I've sworn off white stuff (pasta, rice, potatoes), junk food, drinking more milk and limiting myself to one minor splurge day a week.  So far so good.  Last Monday I weighed 158 (after 2 weeks of being sick and not working out, the holidays and eating everything I wanted to), this morning I weighed 153!  Yahoo!

Can't wait to hear how everyone is doing!

My cat was rather large and the only way he could wash his lower back was to sit up on his hind legs.  Whenever he cleaned that part of his body, it looked like he was doing the hoola.  Laughing

We've all done it, I know I sure have!  I'm struggling with that myself...trying to stay out of the kitchen and find other things to do when I'm bored.  It's hard when you're 'trained' to head for the kitchen, but we can do it!!!

Try not to beat yourself up, there's not much you can do about it at this point aside from recognizing it and getting yourself back on track today.  Good for you posting this though, it's good to air your 'dirty laundry'.  Like you said, it helps to keep you accountable.  :o)

Weight Loss Eating calories burned? Jan 13 2009

Thanks for responding, I was hoping you would, I've seen some of your posts before and you know your stuff!

I have been working out consistently, 4-5x a week, since October with the exception of a very recent 2 week hiatus due to bronchitis.  Slowly getting back into the groove, only worked out 3x last week and all 3 workouts were very light.  I'm hoping to do 4 days this week with at least 2 of them being my norm.

Currently my activity level is set to Light.  I have a desk job and workout 30-40 minutes, 4-5x a week (mostly elliptical and jogging).  CC set my daily calories at 1490, but I've been aiming for 1400.  I am very close to a BMI of 25, I think I'm somewhere around 25.8.  I'm totally psyched at the thought that on the days I workout I could eat 1700-1800 calories but am afraid to over-do it.  Sometimes I swear I am putting way too much thought into this and obsessing over every detail, it's tiring!

So based on this, would you say I'd be safe to eat what I burn on the days I workout?

Thank you!

Mornin' ladies!

I've also been thinking about trying the NROLFW (?), I've heard a lot of good things about it and the results it brings.

I'm finally back on track.  I was sick for a couple of weeks and trying to get back into the groove last week was hard, I only worked out 3x.  I was still semi-sick on top of being totally bloated and pms-ing and a miserable BI***!  I ended the day in tears on Friday from frustration and was so down on myself.  Before the holidays I was 154-155 and now I'm right back up to 158, very frustrating!  But, I'm ready to get back in action and have adjusted my diet, no more white flour or sugary junk food...no junk food at all for that matter!  I'm aiming to have all of my calories come from nutritious foods (with one splurge day a week after I get back down to 154).  Wish me luck!

I do have a question and you might laugh at me for it but...I read a post yesterday about needing to eat the calories you burn during exercise so you maintain the 500 calorie deficit and don't go beyond it.  Do you guys do that?  I hadn't been doing that and hit a major plateau before the holidays, even though I was running and/or lifting 5+ days a week.  I wonder if not adding those extra calories contributed to the plateau?

Hello girls!

I did not give into the chocolate the other day, but today is a totally different story!  Not doing so great at the moment!  I woke up starving and it's coming up on TTOM to boot!  I started the day with a healthy bowl of oatmeal and planned to follow it with some eggbeaters.  Instead had breakfast with my girls and wolfed down 3 chocolate chip waffles and a bowl of reese's puffs cereal!  SUGAR, SUGAR, SUGAR!  It's not even 11:30 and I've already eaten 600 calories of complete garbage.  That being said, the day is young and I can still wrangle myself in and end the day on track.

I just feel so blah, I've been sick for 3 weeks, went 2 entire weeks without exercising at all because of bronchitis, and I've only exercised twice this week.  You ladies are all so inspiring, looks like everyone is doing so great!  Lynn you are a workout queen!  How many hours a day do you exercise?  I need to find that motivation!  I lost it along with my willpower while I was sick.  Hopefully I'll get back on track soon.....

Hello!

I too am back on track after the holiday binge.  Smile  Yesterday was a good day, so far so good today, but I'm working from home and that's always hard for me.  I try to pack my food for the day even on my telecommute days, that seems to help, but those stinkin M&M's in the pantry keep taunting me...I haven't answered their call (yet), hopefully I can stay strong.  I am stronger than the chocolate, I am stronger than the chocolate, I am stronger than the chocolate........

I had no idea my post would cause such a ruckus!  Smile  The CNN article was inspiring to me and I just wanted to share it with others who might be tired of always hearing the negative side of running.  I am very new to running but have made my way from couch to 3 miles a day in less than 3 months.  I haven't experienced any injuries at all and don't think that's because I'm designed for running or have a natural runner's body or whatever.  I'm 35 years old and have never run a day in my life until recently.  I'd like to think I'm injury free and will stay that way because I've gone into the sport well informed and with the patience to listen to my body and know when I'm doing too much.  I agree that weight training is extremely important in general, but especially to anyone involved in high impact exercise.  But, I do plan to be one of the success stories in the next 20 year study!  Sealed
