The Lounge Got to first base!! May 04 2009

Thanks to all my sistahs with all the freat advice and encouragement!  I definitely have to make the next move here, so it has to be well planned.  I agree that he does seem in to me, and I can't let this lose any momentum!  I'm thinking I'll give him a call towards the end of the week with a weather forecast (hopefully it won't be all that nice and will require a blanket!) and an invitation.  I really don't like to have to be the pursuer, so I hope he's all over this!!

Thanks again!!

Nomore -- don't think that thought has not passed my mind before!  But I'm just not sure.  He's been married in the past and I know that he pursued a co-worker of ours in the past.  If he is gay then I think that he is in denial about it and probably wouldn't tell me.  Hmmm.  But, I'll reserve that thought for if/when I get shut down by him.

I like to be straight forward so I like the scenarios of just going for it.  I love the "I like apples..." I think that he would just die - I can see his face right now!  Also, the subtle touching, and if all else fails, the slowly moving in for a kiss.  I guess I'm just nervous about being shot down -- but hey, I've got a few other men in the stable and I have nothing to lose by just taking the bull by the horns!

Weight Loss Why do you want to lose weight? Apr 08 2009

I can honestly say that for the first time in my life that I want to lose weight for my health vs. for my "looks".  Not that I don't want to look good, I do want that, but my thinking lately has been how nice it will be to not have tyype 2 diabetes, not have high blood pressure, etc..

Wow, you guys really came through!  There are a lot of interesting ideas there.  I think we are definitely going to have to branch out a little and do some experimenting.  I like a vegetable stir fry idea, and I think I may be ready to try Tofu!

Thanks again for all of the good ideas.

Isn't it the most awesome feeling!?  Have you held up your new jeans and noticed how small they are?!!  Being a size 14 is great, there is usually a lot of selection in that size.  Keep up the good work!  I love to hear good news like this!

Oh that totally sucks!  If anyone said that to me I think I'd be so dumbfounded I'd just look at them like WTF?  I have no clue why anyone thinks that they have the right to just spout off like that -- maybe it's the way they were raised?  A general lack of class?  A bully  mentality?  I'd much rather be a "big girl" than an i nconsiderate rude pig.

Weight Loss To (Food) Scale or Not Feb 26 2009

Oh yes, get a scale.  I decided I need to develop a different relationship w/ food, so now I weight everything.  The actual portion of a food that you "eyeball" measure can be substantially different when you weigh it.  I believe it is a good practice, and takes away those doubts about what/how much you are actually eating.  Spend the money on a scale, you won't regret it!

Weight Loss Do you see your weight loss when you look in the mirror? Feb 26 2009

Yeah, I started noticing about 10 pounds ago, and I'm strangely obsessed w/ my collar bones!  I've lost a lot of weight from around my face, neck, boobs and waist.  But, I swear when I am casting a critical eye on myself, all I see is how far I have left to go, not how far I've come.

Weight Loss What size pants do you wear? Feb 26 2009

56

I'm 185, 5'6 medium frame and carry most of my weight in my belly.  I am wearing a size 14 today with no muffin top!  Other 14's fit my butt nicely but a little tight on the waist.  The other day I was in a size 12 w/  no muffin top.  As many posters have said, it's hard to determine what your size should be in comparison to others.  There is so much difference in our body shapes, the cut of the clothing, the material (my 12's are made of stretchy denim) etc.

Weight Loss Would i gain weight if i eat a 1000 calorie pancake every saturday? Feb 24 2009

Well thanks for all the pancake talk!  It's all I could think about yesterday!  So, I went home and made a delicious batch of pancakes w/ my Krusteas? mix -- just add water.  I had a yummy dinner, for only 4 WW points.  They were actually very calorie friendly, and w/ a little SF syrup, yum yum.  So, I say indulge in your pancakes -- seems like it is a very diet friendly food and if it keeps evil at bay, way worth it!!

Wow - tough one.  If you really want to be in the trial, then quit losing weight.  You're pretty close already to the minimum BMI for the study, so I would suggest maintaining where you are, weigh frequently, and adjust your food intake accordingly.

I hope you will share more information about the trial with us!  Good luck.

Weight Loss Healthy Foods Jan 30 2009

Good morning!  Of course, healthy foods will include vegetables, fruits, lean meats, whole grains.  Not only will adding these to you diet increase your grade, it will help your diet and nutrition.  Fruits/veggies were not very prominant in my diet before dieting, and I know that in order to really change the way I eat it will have to include healthier, more quality foods.  Since you say that you often have 2-300 calories left over at the end of the day, you have lots of room to add veggies (you can eat a lot of veggies for very little cals) and add some fruit too.  This will increase your grade, keep you within the recommended calorie range, and be an overall healthy choice!  Good luck!

I've recently discovered blueberries!  Very low cal for a good sized serving.  Good to just snack on, or I add it into my usually very dry sugar-free instant oatmeal or low fat yogurt.  An added bonus -- they seem to be pretty cheap, I'm talking $3/pint, not bad in my book.

I fell off the wagon too!  Thank goodness I got back on (officially yesterday!) now instead of waiting any longer.  I was at 189.5, and my weight this am was 200.0 :(

Lost a lot of momentum, but I am back on track and hoping to make it stick!  Good job getting back on the wagon.

The Lounge Computer Password Help Nov 07 2008

I tried the suggestions above to no avail.  I took the battery out, reinstalled it and it just popped back up with the same log in screen.

I agree - passwords are a pain.  If I am able to get it going again, I'll create other accounts for the kids -- seems riduculous though since they have their own computers, its just that mine is handy and out all the time.

Looks like I'll have to try geeksquad -- thanks for all the help!

Motivation anyone wear LEVI's? Oct 16 2008

I have a pair of dressy dark blue levi's -- the only pair I currently wear.  I used to love levi's too, the button front ones.  Just loved them, but I ended up outgrowing them years ago.  I have them still, can't wait to slide in to them again.  I better check them out -- they're size 32 waist -- I am currently wearing baggy 16 -- so I'm getting close!  Thanks for the reminder.  Oh, my teenaged boys have a few pairs, I just love to see them in them!

The Lounge Nuclear Power: For/Against? Oct 14 2008

I am an advocate for nuclear power.  Nuclear power production is a relatively clean, effective way to produce power, and is the most stringently regulated source of energy production.  I have had many opportunities to work in commercial nuclear energy, and the security, operational procedures, maintenance and quality of employees is above all other I've seen, including governmental department of enery (DO) sites.

I have heard that there are 7 nuclear power plants being built currently, with permits for another 7 in the works!  yeah!  I am trying to encourage my teenagers to learn a craft where they can work in nuclear power -- if I were younger and in a different line of work, I'd go for it myself (unless the OP knows if Areva needs an IH?!)

Nuclear power has been given a bad wrap.  Yes, there are issues associated with the waste produced in the generation of the power, but there is a clear path for disposal and remediation of this waste.  Nuclear power is a money maker for everyone, and the best thing we can do for our environment.
