Weight Loss What you've had to unlearn from childhood. Jun 15 2009

I suppose I'm lucky I can't think of one thing I learned in my childhood that I'd like to unlearn.

We ate at the dinner table as a family most nights and always had a balanced meal.  We didn't get snack everyday forget about multiple times a day.

The snacks we did get were healthy once in a blue moon there'd be sugared cereal or cookies. But normal snack was mostly fruits, jello, pudding, fig newtons.

We learned to exercise as part of life not an extra it was almost required definitely expected.

So funny avacado is one of the things I just haven't tried.  Although I love california rolls never thought that would happen even the ginger.  Roll-ups are the best way to make a delicious low calorie meal basically a salad in a wrap. Butternut squash and eggplant is really good, didn't try these  till a few years ago.  My neighbor just made lentils which I thought I'd never try and they were okay I may try to make them myself.

Here's a quick easy one for lunch or dinner.

wrap - I like flax seed wrap but any wrap will do.

imitation crab meat

light ranch dressing

lettuce

tomatoe

Shred lettuce onto the wrap, dice tomatoes distribute onto the lettuce, chop the crab meat, toss over  the lettuce and tomatoe, drizzle on the dressing. Roll and eat.

This can also be made with tuna, chicken or just vegatables add in mushrooms, peppers, etc.

Fitness Is working out in the morning on an empty stomach a bad thing? Apr 02 2009

My husband actually has my son working out in the morning before he eats because it's suppose to help release growth hormone.  Don't know how true this is but when I work out in the morning I do it before I eat also.  If I eat first I usually don't get around to working out.  I perfer to workout then eat when I get to work. Otherwise I'll eat at home and at work, double the calories and no workout to burn them

If you excerise during your studying you will probably do better in school.  Excerise should relieve stress which can be caused by hitting the books.  I'd suggest during your study breaks to do some stretching.  If you know any yoga moves that would be good.  Otherwise do situps, pushups, calf raises, lunges, jumping jacks, etc.

I agree every little bit helps.

I wait till I get to work then I eat packaged oatmeal made with water and add either applesauce or lite canned fruit.

Some of my friends keep boxes of cereal at their desks.

I've also brought in yogurt.

When in a rush I'll toast whole wheat bread, spread peanut butter and jelly.

Yes most of us don't have enough free time.  Since I started working out again the house is a mess.  One day a week I make that my workout, an hour of cleaning.

Three times a week I either walk on the treadmill or do wiifit. The other three days I just do an abdominal tape(Denise Austin hit the spot abs).

In a few weeks I'll probably forget the ab tape and start some strength training which will include situp.

I'm not sure of the details but I can't imagine that a multivitamin/mineral supplement could harm you.  I suppose if it's not useful than it's just money down the drain.

I do take a multivitamin and have always taken either Centruim or One-A-Day, just look for something with Calicum.

I'm jealous I wouldn't have a hard time eating 1950 calories I'm having a hard time keeping it down to 1500.  I'd be very happy eating 1950 but would probably gain.

For the holidays I'd be happy to maintain.  I never did reach my goal but I was only a pound away before Thanksgiving.  Now that Thanksgiving is over I"ll get back to logging I did gain 2 pounds to much eating and drinking.  But I'll get back to trying to lose after the New Year.

Foods Healthy low cal meals to bring to school? Nov 15 2008

Try a salad add some cheese or beans to it.  Change up and add tuna, turkey or chicken.  They sell containers that hold the dressing seperate from the salad.

Yes with a thermos you have many options, use a crock pot and make soups, chili's and stews.  As stated above you can make a few servers at a time and heat them up in a microwave or use a thermos.

Bring some yogurt top with fresh fruit and granola or wheat germ.

Good luck once you get the healthy meals going you'll be more awake in school also.

I agree go shopping try on everything things you might not think you'd like.  Take your daughter with  you and ask for her input.  It might be a good mother daughter experience.  The big clothes will make  you feel good because they are no longer snug but they won't look great.  There's got to be an inbetween swimming on you and showing all you have.  Keep experimenting and you'll find the right fit.

Good luck. Congrads on the loss.

Calm down you ate 200 extra calories and it's driving you nuts.  Chill out and take a walk.  It'll relieve the stress and burn calories.  If you're really craving something sweet maybe just give in and have a cup of cocoa puffs or some other crunchy sweet thing.  Then you'll be over the craving and go on.

Good luck

I believe when you walk you are using lots of muscles not just the leg muscles which would lead me to believe even though its a cardio workout  you are still gaining muscle.

Foods Instant Oatmeal vs. Regular Oatmeal? Nov 04 2008

I agree.  I made the mistake of not reading the label and buying the weight control because of the name.  Then I read the calorie amount to log into the food log and was shocked I was getting more calories then the regular so I finished them by the way they tasted horrible.  But I can't see wasting the money so I ate them.  Next time I looked at the low sugar saw less calories and actually like the taste.

Don't avoid him.  Being with him will make you both feel good.  To have the marriage stay healthy you need to stay close to him emotionally and physically.  Make his day and have a good time tonight, you start the fun and you'll see it'll all be good.

Enjoy

You are not at a healthy weight.  You are on the right track.Smile  Keep eating we can't say it enough at least 1200 calories a day.  Maybe cut back on the exercise.

Eat some snacks between those meals.  Make sure you are taking vitamins.  Your body is being deprived feed it.

Not good for the diet but banana with peanut butter.  Sweet & salty granola bars.  My new snack is Cocoa puffs.  Yogurt with fruit is always satisfying. I'm loving the fact they have all these 100 calorie packs now because when I'm in the mood I can just reach and I don't have to think how many can I eat and how many calories is it.  I just open and enjoy, it's usually enough to satisfy the craving.

I'm glad I read these posts because I feel the same as you,dls337.  Not losing quickly enough but I believe they are correct if there isn't much to loss it's doesn't come off easily.  So lossing 2 lbs a week is nice but I"m sure they are the people who have 20 lbs to loss.  It's the last few pounds that take forever to come off.

Thanks for giving me some uplifting also.

You don't drive so walk, walk, walk.  It's great exercise, no equipment needed. Also there are many exercise DVD with short workouts 10-20 minutes, try them, every bit of movement helps.

I just checked your info it says you have kids.  Play sports with them, ride bikes, roller blade, play ball, it's good for everyone.

Good luck

Weight Loss How often should weigh-ins be done? Oct 16 2008
17:39 (UTC)

I weigh daily which I believe isn't correct and it does occupy my mind that I haven't changed in weeks.  Same as you I only lose a little if any a week but I like to see I haven't gained.  Although it is disappointing when I have a night out and eat extra and drink then I add a pound on luckily I haven't keep any of it.  I only had 11 pounds to lose from the start and it's taken 7 weeks to lose 6 pounds. So now it's tough to keep on trucking not seeing any difference.

So I hope I can get myself out of this daily weigh in and go to a weekly.

Motivation Need motivational partner/group for those tricky last 5-7lbs Oct 13 2008

I have the same problem with 1200 calories a day.  My problem is I can't just eat three meals a day. I also have 3 snacks a day.  The only time I was able to eat 1200 calories was to eat lots of salad and fish.  Vegatables have very little calories so you can make a really nice vegatable medely and put it in a flax seed wrap.

The problem is if I can eat the 1200 calories and get down the last five pounds I'm afraid I won't be able to keep it off.

But I suppose I should worry about that once I can actually lose those last 5.
