One pound equals 3000-3500 calories, so if you are deficiting 500 cals a day it will take you one week to lose one pound. So just be patient or aim for eating less and working out more. As for the sodium intake, that is always a tough one, but keep in mind that the 2400 mg of sodium per day is for maintenance of your weight, not for losing weight. For dieting, it is recommended that you consume 1600-2000mg per day. Hope that helps. |

This website has a page where you can put in your weight and your level of activity to determine how many calories you need to intake. Click on Tools and then Burn Meter. This will tell you how many calories you need to intake to maintain your current weight. To lose one lb you need to have a deficit of 3000-3500 calories. So here are some healthy options... Option 1: Don't change your diet and burn an average of 500 calories a day for a week to lose 1 lb. This would be pretty intense but possible. Option 2: Drop your diet to 1200 calories a day and don't exercise to lose 1 lb in 10 days. Option 3: Drop your diet to 1200 calories a day and do light exercise every day like walking, and burn 200 calories a day to lose 1 lb in a week. Chances are that your body has hit it's comfort stage, or a "plateau" and you will need to shift your regimen up a bit to challenge your body to lose the last few lbs. This is because your metabolism is adjusting, like you said. Really look at what you are eating... not just caloric intake but sodium. You might not need to adjust your calories but keep your sodium intake lower. You want to average no more than 1600-2400mg sodium per day, and this is very difficult to do because a lot of "low fat" options are actually high sodium. That doesn't mean be unhealthy though!! And remember, like any diet that is uncomfortable for you to maintain, when you start eating more sodium again, you will gain those pounds back. Hey and I'm not a nutritionist or anything this is just from my experience. I've been a dancer for several years, and I know what you are going through. :) |
