Three weeks working out 6 days a week 2 hours at a time. That's a lot on your plate all at once! The reality for some of us is that no matter how much we work out we never get the "runner's high" or look forward to doing it. I have to make myself work out every single time! Visualize your future self when you work out. The healthier version of you! Do something you haven't done before in a group setting. I've always wanted to belly dance. There are all kinds of unique classes out there and the social aspect of the classes is a bonus. What about volunteering? Plenty of seniors homes with people in wheelchairs that would like to get outside. That's gotta burn some calories! Also you could try finding a workout buddy with similar goals. It can seem insurmountable when you are alone but with another person to share it with it goes better sometimes. Not only that you get the added bonus of motivation and support. It goes without saying that if you keep experiencing lingering depression you go see your doctor. It could be something that they can help with! Hope you feel better soon :)

I love my wii fit! I have found the scales in the board very accurate. The only thing I recommend is not doing the body test every day. I have lost 17 lbs goofing around on that thing and now everyone in my family has bought one. If you are stuck at home with a child or can't get out during the daylight hours to work out (I work nights) its fantastic. Now that I have gotten this far I have started running in the mornings after I finish my shift. |

HAHAHA You know how they have those milk machines that mass milk cows. Picture the human variety. All the woman bitching about their sore boobs instead of mooing. I think we must be the only mammal on earth that chases down another mammal, traps it and steal its milk. Kind of odd when you think of it in an animal sense. So many people are lactose intolerant for a reason. |

I make the same taking care of a baby with medical issues at night time while the parents sleep . I signed a contract as to what my duties are with this family so everyone is very clear on what is going on. I love my job! It's unfortunate that you are feeling stuck but if its something you truly can't live with you will have to grow a set of balls and talk to them or find another family to work for. It's easier to find a job while you still have one. If they are supposed to be home at a certain time every day tell them you have night classes to attend that start half an hour after they get there. A little white lie but its probably a better excuse than the lame ones you get when they are late or taking advantage of you. |

If you have the inclination there are diaper services out there. I used cloth diapers for my first and got a pattern and materials a fabric shop. When people I knew found out that I was going cloth they helped make them. Very cool. Make sure you get a pattern that includes an cotton panel in between the layers for absorption! They definitely leak more than the average store bought diaper so I recommend rubber pants. I used disposable for my second and third babies. So much less work. |

It sounds lame when I say it but I really like the all bran buds. They stay crunchy and don't taste bland. The biggest problem for me with bran is that although it's good for your crap (lol) it tastes like crap. |

I love Mexican style food! I make something similar for my kids lunches with English muffins but its pizza toppings. Super easy to make and its better than a plain ol' pbj sandwich. Anything that you can make ahead and freeze is good. I make nutritious burritos for them too. I don't very often hear complaints about school lunches. As long as you aren't worried about sogginess when it's reheated then you are good to go. I will be trying your idea, it sounds good |

Exercise! It's not only about the calories you take in. The benefits of exercise are amazing It strengthens your lungs and heart, helps you sleep better, manage weight, deal with chronic diseases, make you feel better emotionally AND improve your sex life. Find something you like to do whether its running around in the back yard with your kids, pilates or whatever it is you choose to do. I took classes at a local gym for yoga and pilates. Very relaxing and de-stressing. It doesn't have to be aerobics in a community gym with the spandex nation and you don't have to run 5 miles the first time you decide to put on the running shoes. Dance to Barry White in your living room for all it matters. Just move! |

Regulations in Canada require that we have nutritional information stated on the packaging. I guess we are lucky! http://acsweb.fmarion.edu/Pryor/cal.converter .html That link above will give you an automatic conversion if you put in the calorie content. Hope this helps! |

I'm wondering how she drinks an excessive amount of wine, eats properly AND stays within her calories. A balanced diet is key to staying healthy and its proven in some circles that red wine in moderation can be good for you. I should warn you if you are going to try and get her to stop partaking of alcohol by pointing out a flabby stomach you may get a swift kick in the rear! LOL Are you worried about her alcohol consumption? Is she only drinking and not eating all the time? |

Try a crock pot. They are great for cooks that don't want to mess with the stove or don't have lots of skills in the kitchen. Best part of all is you just throw it in, turn it on and leave it til it's dinner time. Works great if you are working or just plain busy. I use www.allrecipes.com for most of my recipes. They have lots of low fat and low cal ideas. My favorite feature, you can search for recipes with the ingredients you have on hand. Good luck! |

I get the same thing, my stomach feels almost acidy. I take a tums first. Calcium in it and I m lactose intolerant so its something I need. If I still feel hungry then I will eat something. Sometimes all it takes is a piece of chocolate. I wonder if maybe when you get your period your body is using more calories? It would be nice to know something good comes out of it! :P |

| Health & Support | Stitches in my leg and probably cancer..... | Sep 17 2008 08:16 (UTC) |

When I went to a new family doctor for my first physical with her she noticed that I am covered in moles. When I say covered you can't even imagine. Most of them are tiny, some of them are M 'n' M sized. She asked me how many I had and I told her you could count for days and never get them all. Apparently that means I am at a higher risk for skin cancer. I have had several over the years removed and they test them each and every time they take one off. It's precautionary according to my doctor. They even test the ones that look alright. If a person has lots of moles or any moles for that matter they should pay attention to them. Change in color, size, texture should all be noted with your doctor. It's better to be safe than sorry. Worrying doesn't make you richer, healthier or skinnier lol! Put your leg up and relax :) |

| Weight Loss | Oolong tea helps burn fat! | Sep 15 2008 09:50 (UTC) |

I find oolong tea in ethnic grocery stores or ethnic food aisles. It's usually in loose tea form not in bags. Superstore (canada) sells nice steeping pots for under 15$. I always thought tea leaves were tea leaves and that it's how they are processed that makes them better or different. Kind of like eating a carrot raw or boiling it, leaching out some of the nutrients. Leaves are fermented (black tea) for some, not for others (green tea). Not to mention all the herbal options that don't even have tea leaves in them. |

| The Lounge | Why I l like McCain/Obama, Palin/Biden Harper/Dion/Layton/May... | Sep 12 2008 16:21 (UTC) |

I'm a Harper girl. (Canadian election) I don't think that a carbon tax is reasonable whatsoever. I don't think it will benefit our society at all. It won't make us heat our homes less, drive our cars less or reduce emissions whatsoever. It will pay for advertising to tell us to conserve energy. Blah blah blah....no one listens. Its a carbon driven society. Taxing that is nothing but a cash grab. If I knew that my carbon tax money was going to go to ensuring that products that we buy are more energy efficient or involved in rebates so the average person could afford to get a more environmentally sound furnace or something of the like then I would listen a little more. There are so many issues for me other than the environment honestly. I want to know that when my kids want to go to university or college that it will be affordable, that when we want to retire the funds will be there because I have paid in to them, that crime is dealt with swiftly and appropriately. I want cheaper gas, cheaper schools, cheaper taxes. I'm on board for that! Environment is important but I think its overshadowed some of the bigger issues that mean something to me.

| Foods | Picky Eater.... UGGG HELP | Sep 12 2008 15:37 (UTC) |

LOL When I moved in with my husband he was very picky. I mean PICKY!!! He complained constantly about my cooking. His idea of spaghetti was Campbell's tomato soup, ground beef and noodles. I told him I run a household not a restaurant and if he wanted to eat crap he could hit the nearest McDonalds or cook his own. We're still married, he eats my cooking and doesn't say squat. That's not to say we haven't compromised..he just doesn't know it! I picked up a baby blender and I grind up anything he will whine over. How fitting is the name baby blender? Now if I make something that doesn't have the item he used to complain about he will complain that it tastes funny. He has no clue that he is eating celery, mushrooms, onions and assorted other veggies that he would turn his nose up at. I can't count all the things he swore he would never eat. 16 years later I'm here to tell you that he eats them and likes them..he just doesn't know it. You can always try the guilt trip. Tell him that you want to grow old and gray with him and that it worries you when he doesn't eat things that will benefit his health. Didn't work at my house but you never know...maybe your man will be different heehee! |

Oh god..finally! Someone else who eats cool whip out of the container. I quit buying the stuff cause I can't stop eating it! I love peanut butter too....see what you've done to me jennbush?!?! (heehee) I'm a grazer at heart. I work nights so it seems that my entire food intake is like a snack. I take care of a special needs baby while the parents sleep and I'm working out with weights etc but its hard to get cardio in when you don't want to wake up the whole house with your bouncing around. I snack on fruit all night long cause it can be grabbed easily when I'm in the middle of doing stuff with the baby. I'm finding it hard to grab protein and fats that don't include chips or junk in a bag. |

I am on the same page when it comes to eating more fish. It has protein and omegas. I love eating salmon, tuna or any kind of fish/shellfish for that matter! (for the record: shrimp is bad for you :( blah!) Fish isn't for every person though. Lots of people can't stomach it! Have you noticed when you enter it into your calorie counter that it tells you that its high in fat? I already knew it was but it has lots of good fat in it doesn't it? I think that the calorie counting engines need to be able to tell the difference between the two. If you are eating something that helps balance out the bad fats its worthy of noting. I realize that too much of a good thing still isn't what you want but doesn't it give you a little leeway if you are eating fats that are good for you? |

I am Canadian and I use the Canadian food guide too. It's really no different than the American food guide. I know it might look impossible but if you actually were to weigh it out or measure it exactly how they say, its alot less food/calories than you think. Small digital kitchen scales are inexpensive and easy to use and it gives you a better perspective of what a serving looks like. Aside from that just because you are eating a piece of bread as your serving it doesn't neccesarily mean its the healthiest option there is bread wise. I could eat a donut that is roughly the same volume or size instead of a serving of bread but even though they are essentially the same barring sugar the way they are made sure makes a difference. It's all about choices I guess. Good luck! My wish for the day: That the potato chip companies would tell you how many calories the whole bag has! It doesn't matter if you buy a small bag you aren't only going to eat 25 chips like the usual serving size says. |
