Why would the Democratic party look for the most QUALIFIED canidate starting now? I am not saying that Obama can't do a good job, but I think it is quite hyprocritical to elect a president with 140-some days of congressional experience and then demand that his cabinate be the most qualified. |

Original Post by juleroo: 120 calories is still 120 calories. Yes, you get more nutritional value out of squash than ice cream, but it is still 120 more calories per serving than she was expecting. That said, I agree with everyone else, if you are going by clothes-feel, and there is no issue there, you are doing fine and now know to be careful with it. |

I understand the economy is causing some people money issues, however, in the the vicious cycles of a capitalistic economy, spending is what spurs the demand side of economics. buying things (i.e. Christmas Gifts) with actually HELP the economy. However, using credit cards and money you don't have will only worsen it if you are forced to defraud on the loan. Just my 2 cents worth. |

I am asking for a bathroom scale. This should be the first year that I am light enough to actually use one. am currently 321 and expect to be down to 300 by the new year or slightly there-after. Since mosts scales now will go to 330, that is what is on my list. :) That and lots of Tollhouse cookies.....lol. Ok, not as many as usual, I guess. ;-) |

| The Lounge | Question for McCain supporters... | Nov 03 2008 21:43 (UTC) |

Lets not forget in all this that "middle class/income" stops at $57,000 HOUSEHOLD INCOME. (http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Savingan dDebt/LearnToBudget/TheSecretToSuccessInTheMi ddleClass.aspx) and that people sub-middle class (under $36,000) pay very little in tax anyway. So, if you are making over $91,705 COMBINED household income, you are considered "upper class" (not even upper-middle) and would benefit more form McCain's plan--because you EARN more and are already taxed at a higher percentage than the other brackets. The McCain personal tax incentives are not to benefit the wealthy---they are to make the taxation more fair across the board. Why is it that my family should return 28%-35% of my income when we have worked to have a job that pays those kind of salaries when there are people, 15% and 25% to get the same service out of the government? It is because of the socialist ideals that I should subsidize people who can't pay as much. I do understand that $36,000 is not enough for a person to live on if they lost 35% of their salary to taxes, but dang it, why should I lose a larger percentage of my income just because my job pays more. Tax me at the same rate and you will still get more money out of me than some one making 1/2 of what I do.

You will feel fuller for a bit due to the fats and milk content, but I don't see how you can consider a candy bar a replacement for a meal. 1 bar = 43g = 210 calories. (13g fat/8g Sat. Fat) For 210 calories, you can a have a 3oz steak (85g / 158 cals) and about a half cup of corn (73g / 63 cals)--which is pretty high in calories as far as veggies go. Ok, so that that is 221 calories....but you are getting much better nutrition, 158g of food (allmost 4x as much mass) and a ton more protein. Fad diets do not work. Giving your body the proper fuel will make you less hungry and slow/stop cravings. Anytime you can say "The ________ Diet" it is probably a bad ideal long term.
PS, 158 grams of a Hershey bar? 771 calories....That is a third of my calories from junk--and I am 6'3 and 327 lbs.

Wow...I must have lived here in the south too long. If you don't make eye contact and say hello in the halls at work, you are labelled rude. That is right up there with not holding a door for someone who is behind you. It is not a conversation starter, just an acknowledgement that the person exists. A good morning with a smile can go a long way in setting the mood for the day. |

First, Welcome to a new and larger world. I, myself, love cooking. When I started, I lived and died by the betty crocker cookbook. (http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crocker-Cookbook- Everything-Today/dp/0764568779/ref=pd_bbs_2?i e=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224859292&sr= 8-2) Not only are there some great "Staple" recipes in there from Meatloaf to baked chicken, but they include calorie information and cooking tips/instruction. Also, for local favorites, check for churches selling cook books. There are TONS of little old ladies (and not so little or old ladies) and men that contibute to those. I can attest that most cookbooks will generally yeild to 4-6 servings, but if you could get your roomies to go in on groceries you could save more money or at least have left overs for yourself. You can also try cutting some of the recipes in half, but you can't do that with all of them. There are tons of "speciality" cook books out there to include 3-ingredient meals, or 20 minute meals, cooking on a budget, etc. Spice wise, I use fresh garlic a lot. I also use chili power, cumin, basil, parsley flakes, oregano, and pepper frequently. |

Way to go! I am getting close to the same "issue". I am a guy and I have lost 20 lbs and am already at the tightest notch on my belt (yes, I only own 1), and am running out of pants to wear because mine are getting too baggy. I have lost about 4" off of my waist. I still have a ton of weight to lose...like 130 lbs... but I am looking forward to getting a new belt and new pants this weekend. Again, Congrats on your success! Keep up the good work! |

Sodium and water weight are my nemesis. At my size, I can fluxuate 5 lbs a day if I eat a lot of salt and not enough water. I am male, 6'3 and 331 lbs, thought, so I expect that it would be less for someone your size, but yes, flush your system with extra water and it will help. |

Texas: The way I do that is to measure before making it. For example make 2 cups and take a quarter of what is made. Not perfectly exact, but if you are careful, you will only be off by a couple calories at worst. Or, measure the output of that and get exactly 1/4. |

The biggest thing for me is to lose slowly and make small changes so that it becomes a lifestyle change and not just a "diet". Also, don't get discouraged by a gain here or there. Those are my two pitfalls that I need to be careful of. |

You are not feeling hungry because you are in starvation mode. Using the tools here to "maintain" 110, you need 1800 a day for moderate activitity. You are probably closer to very active, but That would be the first change. Get the calories up. You will gain weight at first as your body comes out of starvation mode, but it will settle back down. Don't worry about gaining a little when you are trying to fix what you already know is a problem. Hang in there! you can do it! |

From the male perspective (and because I have put my foot in my mouth that way before), your husband may have thought that because you LOOK like you are "in the 140s" and, honestly, you are a half a pound from being there. You are doing great. Keep at it. I have never been lucky enough to be down to those final, hard-to-lose pounds. I still have over 100 lbs to lose! I have never been one to hide it, but when you are almos 350, people assume you MUST be trying to lose it. With your friends, don't tell them you are on a diet, just tell them that you want to eat better or that you are in the mood for something like a grilled chicken sandwich. Hope some of this helps. |
