Cupcake for sure. If you can get the design to match your wedding cake then all the better.

I had carmel apples as my wedding favor since I had a Fall wedding. Everyone loved them and they were super affordable.

CD, bravo on taking a stand against the insane (and terribly boring) baby shower tradition. While I've never had a baby, I did have a bridal shower that I didn't want. My mom wanted it, so I did it for her since my parents were paying for the wedding. I had two rules; there must be alcohol and no games. I got alcohol, but somehow my mom managed to sneak in a game or two.  Lame, but by the time she sprung that little secret on me I was so buzzed I didn't care.

I like the idea of the birthday party X 3. Let your guests know (which if they've met you, they should be well aware of your feelings on this) that any presents brought to the party will result in immediate removal of the offending gift and guest. Same goes for belly rubbing. They touch your baby bump, they get stabbed with a fork.

I know you probably have heard this already, but undereating will lead you to feeling hungry less often because your stomach shrinks. Once you start eating more calories, you'll feel hungry again and wonder what the h%^& you were doing only eating 800 calories :o)

Ultimately you'll wind up doing whatever you feel is best, but maybe try upping your calories to 1200 and see what happens with your weight. You may gain initially, but then you'll level off. I know it sounds scary (we're little, and let's face it, even a little extra weight seems to show more), but you'll feel and look better in the long run.

Best of luck!

Ali --> I'm 4' 10" and agree that at such a short height it seems like you should be cutting back even more on your calories than everyone else, but you CAN (and should) eat more than 800. When I first started on CC I refused to believe that I could drop the pounds at 1200 calories and I restricted to around 1000 or even lower. I lost weight, but was starting to get really grumpy because I was always hungry. I know now that I was hurting my chances of getting and staying healthy, so fortunately I kicked myself in the butt and increased to 1200. I was shocked that after three weeks at 1200 calories I had lost another 3 pounds. I guess that proves that CC knows what they are talking about!

You don't look fat in your profile picture at all. Maybe you would feel more fit if you worked out a bit more? That would tone you up and make you look and feel thinner. Plus, exercising means you get to eat more! Laughing

Purging will never make you happy with your weight, but I congratulate you on having the courage to admit to trying something like that. You'll find a lot of support on these forums and you should continue to confide in the members here if you are having any problems. You may also want to speak with your family doctor or one of your parents if this is something you are really struggling with.

Remember, good things come in small packages, and you happen to be one of them.

Foods Full fat food vs Low fat/Fat free food? Jun 05 2009

Original Post by makenasmom:

Well I guess I get to be the odd man out here... But when it comes to dairy products- yogurt/milk/sourcream/cheese/ice cream etc... even mayo, I go with the low fat and in a lot of cases fat free version. But only because their full fat alternative will literally have my gut wrenching. I can drink 2L of Skim milk and I'm fine, but 1 cup of 2% milk and I'm doubled over in agony.  I do however use real parmesan, but only 5g at a time so that's probably why it doesn't seem to affect me. Everything else though is in their natural full fat glory!

I had heard somewhere that you absorb more of the calcium from skim milk than you do from milks with more fat, I don't know if it's true or not, but I'll take it!

You aren't alone!  I have a mix of low-fat/fat free and whole fat products in my house. Dairy tends to always be fat free (butter and milk), but when it comes to ice cream, give me the full fat version! Though I have to admit Skinny Cow makes some darn good ice cream sandwiches :o)

I also go low fat for my meats, but that's mostly because I hate eating a burger that's so greasy it's dissolving my bun.

I can't even cook, so the idea of making my own shampoo scares me! Surprised

Shill: Thanks for your two cents! It's good to hear from someone who really knows hair and the damage chemicals can do.

Day two of my organic shampoo/conditioner regiment and I have to say that I'm now back to the normal hair loss one expects from a shower. I like the idea of using baby shampoo/condioner too (especially because of the price).

I guess I should have checked the ingredients in my hair products a long time ago. I've been focusing so much on what I'm putting into my body, that I overlooked what I was putting on the outside.

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I know that some hair loss is normal, but I was digging big clumps of hair out of the drain every time I showered. It wasn't just breakage either, but hair straight from the root!

First time using the organic brand (Giovanni if anyone is interested) there was a noticeable difference in the amount of hair I was left holding after washing it. Could just be the fact that I changed up my routine, but I don't think I'll be going back to my regular shampoo anytime soon.

I've heard of Origins before, but never tried it. The Giovanni shampoo I now have is clarifying, but safe for everyday use. This should eliminate the need for an additional product to strip the gunk out of my hair left over from washing. Fingers crossed Laughing

All my weight seems to like to hang out in my thighs. I've reached my goal weight, so now I'm just trying to maintain.

Pantene sucks. Yell

Before buying my new stuff, I was using Garnier Fructis. It made my hair feel really soft and shiny, but it also made it fall out.

Anyone know if my hair will grow back? Cry

I'm 4 10 and totally get what you are saying. My highest weight in college was around 130 and I felt gross.

Since I started CC I've been keeping my cals around 1200 when I need to loose, and between 1300 - 1400 to maintain. If I go up to 1500 I gain like crazy. I also don't go to the gym, so that could be part of the reason 1500 doesn't work from me (what can I say? I'm lazy!)  But that being said, 1500 - 2000 calories obviously isn't working for you. Try playing with the number of calories you get for the day and see if that makes a difference. Definitely don't go below 1200 though.

Feel free to contact me if you need another shorty to vent to Laughing

The Lounge Anyone read The Story of Edgar Sawtelle? Jan 18 2009

It's a modern retelling of Hamlet. Because of that there are some jumpy character introductions, especially later in the book, to fill the roles in the original story. While not one of my favorite books, I thought it was an interesting way to make the story modern. And since I love animals, I was especially drawn to the chapters that are narrated by the family dog, which I thought was a unique perspective. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but maybe you'll like the movie version that is currently in the works.

I think emilyd22222 hit the nail on the head. I'm not a doctor, but what you are describing sounds like it could be celiac. See this link: http://www.celiaccentral.org/What_is_Celiac_/ 13/gclid__CKuxl4nJ15cCFQEpGgodvyWzDA/

I hope you feel better soon.

Weight Loss Question about Counting calories and weekends. Nov 24 2008

I've been relaxed about my weekend calorie counting from the start and have been steadily loosing weight the whole time. While I log everything I eat/drink on the weekends, I don't "count" it like I would during the week. It basically just keeps me from going completely overboard, while still enjoying a few treats.

I've always said that I don't want kids, ever. I was a horrible babysitter as a teen, and have never liked being around children. My husband is of the same mindset, so no problems there. He actually had a vasectomy before we were married, as I had assured him that I didn't want children and was having major problems with my bc and am allergic to latex.

That being said, a year later and I'm starting to think about kids names. Me! What happened?! Whenever we see our nephew (my husband's side) I'm happy to play with him, but am rather at a loss as to diaper changes, etc. Still feeling really uncomfortable being around children makes me think we made the right decision, but there are doubts.

I guess I'm in the same boat as you, except I can't get pregnant due to the vasectomy.

It was on the fourth of July (and yes we get the irony!). We had snuck up to the roof of our Queens apartment building for the Macy's fireworks. Up there all alone with the fireworks going off all around us, my husband dropped to one knee and asked if I would be his wife.

My father was diagnosed with Celiac about 5 years ago. Never had symptoms, until 5 years ago when everything he ate started going right through him. It wasn't until he landed in the emergency room for severe dehydration and malnutrition that the doctors finally realized he had celiac. He's better now, but can't be exposed to gluten, ever.

I understand your love of bagels and breads, but you really need to cut them out of your diet. Your body can't digest them, so you're getting zero nutrients from these foods. Prolonged exposure to gluten can lead to stomach and colon cancer.

Increase your calories intake with gluten free treats. If you're in the NYC area, you should stop by Risotteria (http://www.risotteria.com/). They are a great gluten-free restaurant in the village. You can get pizza, panini's, pasta, bread sticks, beer, all gluten-free.  Any health food store you go into will have gluten free products. You can have your gluten free cake and eat it too!

Special K protein Water. I can't say enough about the stuff. Tastes good, and it's quite filling actually. It's only 30 cal and has a good serving of protein and fiber.

Health & Support Calorie Count vs. Hungry/Not Hungry? Sep 24 2008

I'm 4' 10" and generally eat less than the 1200 cal minimum they suggest, usually hovering around 1000 cal a day. I'm sure you'll receive other advise, but if you're not hungry, why eat? If you stop loosing, or feel you're loosing too quickly, then you should add some more calories to your diet.

I've heard that multiplying your goal weight by 10 will give you the number of daily calories you should have.  My goal being 95-100 (hey, I'm really short!), I feel I'd doing the right thing eating less than 1200 calories. Especially since my starting weight was 120, which is not a good look if you're under 5'!
