Weight Loss How can i lose 11bs in 1-2months?? Feb 21 2009

At 107 you would be underweight at a BMI of 18.4, which is not only unhealthy but can also be extremely hard to maintain and would cause a lot of health problems. At 118 you are at a healthy weight for your height. You should reevaluate why you want to lose weight.

Weight Loss Does anyone here NOT count calories? Dec 13 2008

Well I just basically eat when I'm hungry, it seems to work for me.

Mostly healthy food, fruits, vegetables, lean meats. All good stuff. I used to be obsessed with counting calories but that just made me think about food more often, which eventually led me to eating more food in general. I think your body should be the only judge of whether you've eaten enough or not, I don't see the purpose in counting calories anymore.

Yes.... stop trying to live like a Marine.   You're a kid.   You feel deprived because your balanced healthy meals are obviously not giving you much pleasure or satisfaction and your exercises are a pain in the backside.   Punishment isn't much fun and come the weekend.... it's too much to keep up with.  Undereating and calorie counting all week in an attempt to lose weight is probably not helping either.  Starving leads to bingeing sure as night follows day

What to do.... stop counting calories all together.  Don't log into this website for a week.   Eat what you feel like eating mixing up the 'healthy balanced' with food you eat for fun.  Eat when you're hungry.  Do your exercises by all means but also find time to relax and chill out and have some fun....  And then at the weekend carry on in the same vein rather than heaving a great sigh of relief at getting out of your self-imposed shackles!

Flying solo and learning to trust your own judgement will help you so much.  As will understanding that 'calorie counting is a good servant but a bad master'.

I think thats what I'm going to do, just take a break from counting calories for a little while and see how it goes. I really have been really hard on myself with not having any junk at all, so when I'm alone around it I just can't control myself. Thanks for the great advice you always seem to have !

Yea...since the day of eating all that junk, ive been eating healthy again and doing my usual exercise rountine of heavy lifting for an hour and 5 mile runs. All I was trying to tell everyone was that eating sooo much junk one day is not going to hurt, as I was 147.0 the day before, and two days after i was 146.7. (And I know I have a really fast metabolism, but even if its slow, YOU WILL SURVIVE). Of course it isnt healthy, and I know that, but once it is done there is nothing to do about it. You just keep eating healthy and exercise right in the future.

See, now thats a great attitude. I wish everyone else could adopt it. Keep up the good work. :]

Its so horrible, its almost like they're advocating those diets that the celebrities went on to look that thin. For example, they said Beyonce went on a diet of water and cayenne pepper and lemon stix that could make you dizzy and nauseous ? That's got to be extremely unhealthy. Any impressionable person who looks at those photos will think, "Hmm, If I go on their diet, I'll look just like them!" I wish we had better celebrity role models, I mean seriously.

To be honest, I don't really see the problem with him announcing that he ate 12 doughnuts and doesn't feel bad about it. If that was me, I might feel really horrible about myself and end up eating another 12 doughnuts the next day! I actually find his post kind of motivational. We all have bad days, theres no use for making excuses why we did it or feeling horrible about it.  I don't see why people can't use his situation as an example; we shouldn't beat ourselves up about eating junk food once in a while. He specifically stated that he would "feel like never having a donut again." By the next day he is probably ready to go back to eating healthy and not crave junk food for a long, long time. That sounds completely rational to me.

And on another note, I think everyone needs to be nicer. People go on the forums to hear support and motivation, not to be critisized or insulted. I think everyone should stick with the rule we should've learned in elementary school: If you don't have anything nice to say, please don't say anything at all. We should make everyone feel welcome to express their opinions without being judgemental.

Is it tooo late to join ? I have basically the same goal.

Age: 15

Height: 5'1

Weight: Around 125 (it can be up or down 2 or 3 pounds a day)

Goal: 115-ish. :]

I'm not exactly sure with my goal though, I have some muscle and I'm trying to build more, so I'm not sure if it'll be possible to get to 115 without losing muscle weight. Basically, I'd just like to lose my tummy and look like I could kick your butt. :P

Lets do it ! :]

Heyy, i'm fifteen and we're kind of in the same boat with this problem.

Sometimes I just feel like I can't stop eating when no one's around. Basically, my parents really disapprove of me eating junk, so the worst food I can get my hands on in my house is peanut butter and chocolate chips. When they're not around I tend to eat them and just can't stop! What I've been doing now, is that I do allow myself to have a little something everyday before I go to sleep, whether its just cottage cheese or sugar free pudding with cool whip, or low-fat ice cream, so I can resist my cravings for junk. Occasionally, I do let myself have chocolate or peanut butter as a treat and I take my time to enjoy it. Its okay to have a treat once in a while!

If you need any other help or want to talk, just message mee. :]

That's completely ridiculous. So they're idea of a woman with a perfect body is a woman who's basically anorexic and has had implants ?

Wow, I really question their judgement on that one.

Thanks andie-joe, that article was really helpful.

13 minutes wasn't bad for me, as I already have pretty tan skin from the summer as it is. But I didn't know I should be using lotion, which I'll have to buy for the next time I go tanning, I definitely don't want to end up looking like a wrinkly old lady! Surprised

Thanks guys. :]

Young Calorie Counters So; What Do You Teens Do For Exercise? Oct 05 2008

I run about 3 miles, 3 times a week. (I'm training for track in the winter). In between the days I run I try to do strength training for at least half an hour, even though I really don't like it but I always feel great afterwards. On the weekends I like to go on walks for about an hour in addition to exercising, and I have cheerleading practice 4 times a week after school and we have games on friday/saturday. In our school we have a really nice gym with treadmills so whenever I can I try to get in a little more exercise there too.

Weight Loss don't stress over cheat days! Oct 04 2008

OMG. I love you for writing this. I'm fifteen too, and I'm about the same weight as you are, and I've had days where I ate junk and felt horrible about it for the rest of the week, so I didn't exercise and ate even more unhealthily. The trick to having a cheat day is to not feel guilty about it, since this just makes it harder to get back to eating normally the next day. I'm tagging this for sure ! I'm glad someone my age has been able to make healthy a lifestyle and not just a diet, which is what I'm aiming to do. :)

Motivation I have a binging problem. Help? Oct 04 2008
20:11 (UTC)

How many calories do you eat a day when you're on a diet ? This could be the reason that you felt the need to binge. If you're eating too little on a diet, this causes your body to go into starvation mode and the next thing you know, its telling you to eat everything in sight. Believe me, I've been there. Your body is telling you that you need to be eating more, so I would suggest upping your calorie intake to a more reasonable level. Then, you won't feel the need to binge since your body is getting adequate energy. If you are eating enough, then I would suggest eating smaller meals, more often. This makes it so that your metabolism is kept running smoothly throughout the day, and you never feel starving, which can cause you to go into binge mode. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids, too. Hope this helped. :)

Young Calorie Counters What does your cafeteria serve? Yikes! Oct 03 2008

They tried to make our cafeteria a little healthier this year so we have:

Cereal

Salad Bar

Peanut Butter and Jelly Uncrustables (the huge kind thats like 580 calories :/ )

Hamburgers

Cheeseburgers

Hot Dogs

Chicken fingers

French Fries

Make-your-own sandwich bar

Cookies

Chips (Although they do offer the baked, lower calorie versions)

Yogurt

Pre-made sandwiches and wraps

I'd say compared to most schools they serve a good amount of healthier choices. However, I still prefer bringing my own lunch to any of the foods they offer. :)

did you notice when you were eating them how many ounces it said on the wrapper ? The ones you have at your school might be the same ones they have in the grocery store at 210 calories. The ones at my school are like super sized for some weird reason but I'm not sure if every school orders this size. If you like peanut butter and jelly, I would just bring your own to school if you can. I make my own with whole wheat and natural peanut butter and it tastes just as good and fills you up better than the white bread they use.

I definitely agree that schools should find something healthier to sell for lunch.. i couldn't believe that they were just as bad as getting pizza or fried chicken (or both!) :/

I used to eat uncrustables all the time at school, since I'm really picky with my food and I never had time to make lunch myself. The amount of calories in the uncrustables in your school depend on which type of sandwich and the size. The peanut butter and jelly ones in the grocery store are 2 oz and only 210 calories. I know the peanut butter and jelly uncrustables they have at my school are 4.6 oz sandwiches and are 580 calories! (Its a shame they don't put the calorie content on the wrapper). However, this type of uncrustable is only available to schools and you can't buy them in the grocery store. This tricked me at first because I thought I was only eating 210 calories for lunch, even though the sandwich was huge. I was pretty surprised when I look up the calories on their website.. :/

When you buy one at your school, check how many ounces it is and then look up the calories on the smucker's website. They have all the nutritional information for uncrustables sent to schools.

Weight Loss Lose Weight without Excercise?? Oct 01 2008

How about trying swimming for exercise ? As far as I know it doesn't really put as much stress on your body as walking or running does. I'm not sure if you're capable of it with a knee injury, or if you have access to a pool, but I would give it a try. Its really great exercise. If you swim for exercise and eat healthily I'm sure you could get back down to your goal weight. :) Good luck !

Instead of an unhealthy, sugary energy drink, why not try a cup of herbal tea that will give you a natural energy boost ? I would try a cup of Ginseng Energy tea, I like to have a cup of it in the morning when I'm feeling a little low on energy and its zero calories.

Young Calorie Counters Binging but now getting bak on track! Sep 30 2008

I also run a lot for exercise, and I've had previous problems with binging due to severely restricting my calories for long periods of time (not a good idea at all). But anyway, once I got back on track and upped my calories to a normal amount, I didn't feel the need to binge anymore and I lost all of the weight I gained from binging. Don't be too upset, you're not the only one to have this problem. Make sure you're not eating too few calories a day, as this can cause your body to go into starvation mode and make you feel hungrier than you actually are (causing the need to binge). I see that you're eating three good meals a day, which is good. You might want to include a few snacks in between meals to keep your metabolism running smoothly. Even if you can't run because of your injury, swimming and biking are still really great exercise that burn a lot of calories! I guarantee that if you watch what you eat and still continue to exercise you'll lose the weight you gained from binging and be able to run again once your injury heals. I wish the best for you and hope you get better soon ! Smile
