I'm sick of school!  I don't want to take classes this summer but I also don't want to have to spend the entire summer at home with my parents!

And I'm fed up with a friend who keeps using me!  Why do I seem to attract the clingy, needy type?

Haven't seen it, won't see it because I heard the dog dies in the end.  I refuse to see movies where the animal dies.  I blame it on emotional scarring from Old Yeller and Where the Red Fern Grows when I was young.

Mmm, bacon.  I completely agree.  I am also in the 'all things in moderation camp,' and if losing weight means that I can never have bacon, pizza, french fries, cake, etc, then I'll just stay fat!  Haha.  I am losing weight but I have those things, though only rarely.  I've tried the diets where you never have "treats" and those have not ever ended well for me...

The only thing I avoid now is salsa, because I literally eat half a jar and half a bag of chips each time I have it.  It's like I completely lose control of myself and can't stop eating.  Nothing else affects me like that.

I've been on here since September.  I was looking up calorie information for various things, and I kept getting referred to this site.  Eventually I ventured onto the forums and looked around the site and decided to join.  I know what you mean about being tired of being overweight.  I'm one of those who has never really been skinny.  I was a fat little kid, and it just got worse and worse.  I lost some weight in 2003-2004, but I've been hovering in the 185-195 range since then.  In the beginning of 2008, I started gaining again, and got up to around 210.  I decided that I needed to start losing again, and I've been trying ever since then.

I tried crash dieting several times - you know, eating almost nothing for several weeks, losing a bunch of weight, and then gaining it all back (and then some).  The problem I always had was that I wanted to be skinny ZOMG NOW!!!! and of course, it doesn't work like that.  Now I'm aiming for the more healthly loss of about 1 pound a week.

It's frustrating sometimes, but one of the bigs things I have learned is to forgive myself when I mess up!  If I overeat or binge, I can't beat myself up over it, because that won't help matters out any.

This site is a great resource, and I hope it helps you, too.  I think the community aspect makes it easier to stay on track, since you have other people who are struggling with the same problems.

I do, and it's a large part of the reason why I don't drink.  For some reason, alcohol tends to make me sick to my stomach even when I only drink a small amount, but I feel a little better if I eat.  So I eat, and eat, and eat, and keep on eating until I feel like I'm going to die from the combined effects of the alcohol and the binging.  Undecided  So, yeah, I typically avoid alcohol.  Last time I drank, I ended up eating something like five or six slices of cold pizza (it was gross even when it was fresh and even worse cold), two slices of cake, a bunch of cinnamon sticks, and a bunch of non-alcoholic punch.

That was in July, and I haven't had any since then, hahaha.

That's great!  You are doing well.  One of my biggest issues is social eating.  When I'm with other people, I tend to want to eat what they do, and I can rarely resist when we go to a restaurant (or movie) together.  I know I wouldn't have been able to resist eating that popcorn, and I probably would've gotten myself a few donuts, too.  You are strong. :)

You'll love it!  Don't worry about what you'll look like in your jumpsuit.  It is so baggy that no one will notice.  During freefall, you won't really see your entire body, so that's not a problem either.  And really, the way your cheeks might flap in the wind will be so funny on the video that you'll forget about everything else!

Hopefully you'll like it enough to keep going.  I'm licensed with 400+ jumps.  It's my passion.  I am afraid of heights, and I don't like airplanes that much.  But the thrill is amazing.

Oh, I am so jealous!  I really want to become licensed someday, but I can't afford it right now.  However, when I graduate, that's the first thing on my list, haha!

I agree so, so much.  I had four exams this week, plus a lab.  It was incredibly exhausting.  It's only 3:30, but I'm already thinking about when I can go to bed.

Other crap was going on too, but fortunately that has resolved, too.

No big plans this weekend, just going to relax and start studying for the test next week.

I went (tandem as well) just two weeks ago, and it was AWESOME!!

The only problem is that you might love it so much you want to keep on going until you are qualified to jump solo, because that's what happened to me. Tongue out Unfortunately I am a student so it'll be awhile before I get the whole way there, but I'm going again this summer and I hope to go every few months until I graduate and can go all the time.

I have had similar experiences before, quite often, actually.

Last semester, I took an awful Immunology class.  I wasn't really prepared for just how bad it was going to be, and I slacked off for the first two tests and got a 54 and a 70.

I needed a 70 to pass the course and I had a D, so I studied a lot of the third test.  I was anxious and nervous, and I ended up getting a 68 on it.

Of course, I was angry.  I studied my butt off and got a D, how could that have happened?!  I thought I did okay, I thought I knew the material!  Worse, I still had a D, and now things were getting very serious - I was likely to fail the course if I didn't do quite well on the next two exams.

The fourth test came around.  I stayed up late studying for it, and before the test, I went to the campus coffee shop with a friend.

I told her how worried I was and how I had never failed anything before and how I was just absolutely terrified.  She is older (in her 50s) and has been through a lot in life, and had a different perspective.  She really helped me relax, and I stopped worrying about it.  I accepted the fact that I was probably going to fail the class, and instead of spending a few more hours trying to frantically study, I just took it easy.

After I took the test I felt quite sure that I had gotten another D, but to my shock I managed to get an 80!  I ended up passing the class (and believe me, I am prouder of that C than I am of any A I have ever gotten) and I am still thankful for that, every single day.

It might sound stupid or too simple, but it really sounds to me like you are worrying too much about it and getting too anxious, and then making small mistakes.  Remember that you have studied, you are capable of doing well, and don't get so anxious about it.

I'm wishing you luck!!  I know how frustrating it is and if I managed to dig myself out of such a huge hole, you can, too!

I'm glad that you got the situation resolved, and I also hope that he doesn't continue to bother you.  I'm really bad about being "too nice" and feeling guilty about letting someone down, so I can relate to your situation.  This guy sounds pretty weird, though, with the long emails and all, so I definitely think a direct email was the best thing to do.

Wow, this thread is really depressing, but also kind of cathartic.  I can't believe people are so cruel.  I feel the need to share, too.

For some reason, I never got too many insults when I was growing up, even though I've always been overweight.  I guess I just got lucky.  I was quiet and mousy, so maybe I escaped notice.  People tended to be too busy tormenting one of my good friends who was outspoken and loud (and very very skinny).

The one that really sticks out in my memory happened when I was a senior in high school.  Mind you, this was after I'd already lost about 70 or 80 pounds, so I was around 185-190, down from 267.  I was taking a college class concurrently, and one day when I was walking across campus, I saw a big group of people standing outside the library yelling at people walking by.  I crossed to the other side of the street, but I figured that wouldn't stop them, and it didn't.  One of the guys yelled "Big red dog!" like the phrase from Clifford, the children's TV show.  I was tall and fat, and I have red hair, and yeah...

Strangely enough, I didn't get too upset - but I do still remember it well.  It was actually kind of funny; a more creative insult than "fatass" or "lard butt" or the typical things you hear.

This thread has done a great job of killing my desire to eat out!  Or to eat anything at all. Undecided

When I was in high school, they sold giant cookies for a quarter, and I'd occasionally buy one.  One time I was most of the way through a giant peanut butter cookie when I discovered a hair baked into it.

Needless to say, that was the last one I bought.

And I am supposed to go skydiving in March, and I just found out that when you make reservations, they need your height and weight.  I'm going with a group of people I don't really know (I only know one person) so the guy making the reservations is someone I don't know... and I'm going to have to tell him my height and weight... I was actually thinking that we needed a thread like this!

I've always been single on Valentine's, so I'm pretty well used to it.  I did start my own little tradition of wearing black a few years ago, though.  This year, I'm actually "volunteering" at a museum.  Afterwards, I'll probably get a movie and watch it that evening, and eat something I like...

I don't know how to, either.  I lived out in the country on a gravel/dirt road, so I didn't have a lot of opportunities to learn.  At one point, I tried riding on a concrete track, but a nasty crash (I still have the scar) kept me from repeating the experience...

The thing that always gets me is chips and salsa.  I can't stop with one reasonable serving, I have to eat at least half the jar at once, along with a bunch of tortilla chips.

That is the only thing that always gets me.  However, when I fall into binge mode (which tends to happen far too often), any sort of junk becomes binge-fodder.  The junkier, the better - I never binge on trail mix or nuts or even Chex Mix, it's got to be total and utter junk before I'll eat horrifying amounts of it.  I don't even know what triggers me, just that I start eating and keep going and going.

Oh, also, microwave popcorn tends to get me into trouble, so I don't buy it anymore.  It's not as bad as chips and salsa, though.

One time when I was 11 or 12, I went swimming with some friends and one of them brought her little brother, who was probably 3 or 4.  I went off the high jumping board and as I jumped, he screamed "Go fat Jane!!!"  I didn't even hear it, but they told me about it when I got back to them (with much laughter).  I didn't get upset, though; I was fat and he was just a little kid.  It's even funnier now.

I've left the keys hanging out of the ignition before!

I used to drive an older Chevrolet truck, and it wouldn't beep if you didn't have your seatbelt on, or if you left the keys in the ignition.  So at least once (and I'm thinking it happened twice) I got distracted after I parked, and then hopped out of the truck with the keys dangling from the ignition!

Fortunately, the car I have now beeps if I open the door and the keys are still in the ignition.  That has saved me more than once!

I've gone on ridiculous binges, but not usually on sweets so much; it's salty stuff that gets me.  Like eating an entire can of Pringles, or half a bag of chips, or, this happened recently, eating two bags of microwave popcorn (the big bags, not the little 100-calorie things) back-to-back.

As others have said, beating myself up over it tends to make it more likely to happen again in the future.

I've always been afraid of having this question asked of me because I carry the majority of my weight on my stomach, and the result does kind of make me look pregnant.

I have an answer ready though (assuming I don't start crying, which is sadly a possibility): "Yes, I'm pregnant with ice cream's baby! The father is either Ben or Jerry, I'm not sure which!"  Or maybe "Yeah, it's pizza's baby.  They don't call him 'Papa' John for nothing!"

I am fairly conservative, but I don't have a problem with this at all.  I think that the people in the class would probably be very mature about it.

It's fine for other people, that is.  There's no way I'd subject a classroom of innocent people to the sight of myself naked! Surprised I wouldn't want to be responsible for blinding a bunch of people.  If I had a better body I might do it myself; it would definitely be an interesting experience.

A friend and I decided that we wanted mozzarella sticks, so we decided to go and get some at a restaurant.  She's really picky about them, so she decided she wanted some from Red Lobster (neither of us eat their seafood), but she didn't like their marinara sauce.  So we stopped at Sonic and got two little containers of marinara sauce, and took them into Red Lobster, where we ordered mozzarella sticks.  She left the little empty carton of marinara sauce from Sonic on the table underneath her napkin when we left. Embarassed We did  leave a good tip, though, and the cheese sticks were great!  Haha.
