I used to binge eat. I would keep eating even if I was full just for the taste. So, If I made a chocolate cake? It got eaten in 1 or 2 days. Bought a dozen donuts and kolaches? Same thing Also...full fat ranch and garlic sauce on deep dish pizza. At least 3 pieces not including cheesy bread and buffalo wings. A quart container of ice cream from Baskin Robbins. Sometimes I would eat the whole thing in one sitting. I literally ate until I felt like I was bursting. My husband and son still eat this way! I am doing so much better now. Paying more attention to the feeling of being "satisfied" instead of "full". Lost 15 lbs. so far! |

If I set mine to sedentary, I can only eat 1200, the minimum! I have not been able to stick to that at all! Which is probably why I can't seem to lose that last 15 lbs. |

I'm in the same boat. Inactive at home unless its a big cleaning day but active while exercising. I go back and forth to setting it at lightly active to moderately active because I still can't get into a losing groove. |

I totally thought I understood but now I really don't. So if I am 33, f, 5'3", 147-9 lbs. looking to lose 15 lbs. and I jog 2-3 miles 3-4 times/week, then what should I be eating? If I set the calculator at light activity, it says I can have 1382, if I set it at moderate it says 1590. It says my calorie expenditure is at 1890 a day at light activity and over 2000 on Moderate. Which is right and what do I eat? I thought we were supposed to have a 500-1000 defecit to lose weight. |

When I first posted I was 148, yesterday, 149, and now today 147 again. I'm so tired of this fluctuation mess! I'm ready to lose some REAL lbs! Am I going to have to eat 1200 cals and dry chicken breast and salads to acheive that??? |

Hey, I started CC right around September but only faithfully counting around January 2009. Counted cals only at first, then started the exercise. I jog/run 3.2 miles/day 3-4X/week. I've lost 11-13 lbs. fluctuates. 5'3", 33yrs, 148lbs, 1350 cals/day. Cheat when we eat out but try to calculate that into my cals per day. SW:159 LW:126 CW:148 GW:130-135 So, I'd love to lose that last 13 lbs!! |

I just started jogging again this year and I run 3.2 miles 3-4 times a week and it takes me an hour. I keep my pace slow and steady but ramp it up by sprinting as fast as I can for 30 seconds to a minute when I feel like my heart rate is dropping too low. I wouldn't call myself a runner but I do love to jog/run. I hope to build up my speed and also run 4-5X a week. (My specific reasons for jogging slowly are that I like to keep my heart rate up above a certain level for the full hour AND when I try to run faster, my knees tend to hurt and I get shin splints.) Take it slow and steady and push yourself when you can.

I also love, love, love the hostess mini cupcakes in chocolate and strawberry. You get three of them and it cures my need for desserts. I think if you like to have chips with a sandwich every once and a while and everyone else is having doritos and cheetos, etc., then it's handy to have 100 cal chip packs around. I like the Harvest Cheddar Sunchips.

3 hours!!?! Wow, it takes me 1 hour to run 3 miles so I can't imagine running as fast as you for 20 whole miles! Good grief, I have my work cut out for me don't I? UGH! Great job, anyway!!! Don't be too hard on your Dad. Parents say some pretty stupid things sometimes. He probably didn't mean it... BUT if he did mean to hurt your feelings, make sure he's among the first to know about your awesome accomplishment! lol |

Lol! This is funny. Yeah, I had/still have somewhat that problem and at first I wore bike shorts underneath to "reign" in my extra bottom/belly bulge, but after a few weeks it just starts to firm up and by then I didn't care or notice. I think I remember about my stomach and bottom itching kinda like it feels when you let a jacuzzi jet run on your back too long? But that doesn't happen anymore. Currently I just wear black yoga type capris. My faves are actually around $11.99 from Walmart. They are snug fitting so they keep everything in check. The quicker you get out there and start jogging, the quicker the extra lbs. melt away! HTH! |

Although I am neither Buddhist nor a believer of Evolution, I also agree with the OP. My problem is that I tend to want to squash that feeling of hunger a little too often and end up eating way more than I should that day. Anything can trigger hunger with me and even after a very filling meal. I am glad to be reminded that I might have to get used to feeling hungry at times if I am to lose more lbs. |

| Fitness | Is jogging 3 miles per hour helping? | May 15 2009 19:37 (UTC) |
|
Well, I ended up trying to up my speed today. I ran the first mile in 11.5 minutes. But I went back to regular pace for the next two miles. I expended pretty much all of my energy and am thinking that I'll keep working on my endurance at a steady pace with occasional sprints. I don't want to get overwhelmed and quit! I'll look up that couch to 5k program. Thanks! |

Right, but I guess what I'm saying is: Is 3 miles done in a faster time enough? or is an hour of cardio more important?
That's what I'm trying to figure out. |

Thanks for the replies. After reading them and some others earlier, I've decided to start implementing sprints and working on picking up my speed overall. The only thing I am still debating is whether I will try to go for more than 3 miles since I heard that we should do an hour of cardio and I was trying to stay in that time period. If I run faster won't I finish earlier? Is three miles enough or should I do more? Anyway, thanks again! |

Wow, it seems like the stomach fat may be the culprit in all of this. Pants and skirts are loosening up in the leg and thigh but staying put around the middle. For me anyway! Summersmom, wow! We seem to have some things in common. I smoked for years. Too ashamed to say how many! But I also was the girl who would rather talk and walk when we ran laps. Although it was just because I was too cool to run. Lol! Now, I love to run. In my early 20's I ran two miles/day and stayed trim. Then i SLOWLY let myself gain 30 lbs eating all of the foods I wouldn't have touched when I was younger. It was fun while it lasted but I want my body back. I also think alot while I jog. And pray. I even worked out my testimony one time. I was in tears throughout most of it but what a great time of healing for me. I also plan, plan, plan. Dinner, what I need to buy for the kids, what book of the bible I read next, etc. That's great that your husband is behind you. I have one of those who gets grumpy if I don't make some "real" food often enough.lol. I can't wait until he gets his first scary physical exam and wants to start eating smarter. I will be locked and loaded and ready to go. Anyway, nice talking to you. hope to talk more later.

Its so weird how our bodies carry our weight differently. Are you taller than me? If I got up to 193 I would be wearing a size 18 or something. You look great and jogging does take it off from all over. I notice a place here or there that feels different. More toned or just different. It's a good feeling. I am just impatient. It seems like I am always having to wait to jog. This week I can't because I have a YI, last week I was in bed due to TOM, and the week before that it rained for days and flooded the area (actually two weeks in a row). I really need a treadmill! Congrats on the weight loss. |

Thank you Cathy. You've lost 40 lbs and are wearing one size smaller? Wow. Isn't the size 14 (UK) like a size 8 or 6(US)? Anyway, I guess all that matters is how we look and feel but I sure would like to lose about 15 more lbs. and most of this belly. I'm afraid until its gone, I won't feel very excited about what weight I've lost. :( Congrats on the huge weight loss! Must feel great! |

Mperic81, well that gives me some hope. At least I am not the only one that's happened to. Thanks for the encouragement!
Kelleigh, I was definitely pushing a size 14 and now I'm not but I guess I just thought that I mightv be able to get into a 10 by now. It used to be so EASY to lose the extra lbs. As for the kids, I had my kids before my weight gain and actually lost a lot of weight after my last kid just by eating clean. I cut all sugar, fried foods, and and only ate meats that were grilled or baked. I got down to 123lbs and people said I looked like I was on crack. I am not meant to be that thin, and I have to confess that eating like that was boring but was like a super metabolism booster. I may have to start restricting more bad foods again (sometimes I allow myself a fast food hamburger with no mayo or cheese but I may have to cut that out?)
Anyway, congrats on the weight loss to you both! |

Fresh, warm DONUTS-chocolate covered and glazed. Snowflake Donuts (local) makes the BEST donuts ever--and I can't remember the last time I had one. I can't even THINK about them. Can't have them in the house. Chips and green sauce at the local TEX MEX Any kind of bread w/ whipped butter. Saltgrass Steakhouse is my favorite. Filet-o-fish and McDonald's french fries (when cooked perfectly w/ extra salt!) YUM! Pizza and cheesy bread. I HATE it when my husband wants pizza. I can't resist it. Any kind of homemade dessert ok now I'm hurtin'. |

Oh man! This is how I felt when I found out recently that I am really 5'3" instead of 5'5"!! I was pretty bummed about it for a few days. Don't really know why... So, when I changed my info. on CC, it lowered my calorie count from 1300 to 1250. That is not do-able for me so I lengthened my goal date by a couple months and now my calorie intake is 1382. Slow and steady wins the race! |

hey great suggestions! I thought about using a straw this morning but don't have any in the house right now. I am so desperate for coffee that I will try it! Enchantingimage: I am using the classic version because they are on sale (right now) at Kroger for 21.99 and then another $5 off for two. That is the cheapest I have seen that aren't generic so I snatched them up! So, if this doesn't work I will def try the PRO Effects. I saw that those were quite a bit more, so I will use those as a last resort. I haven't had a real problem with tooth sensitivity yet! BTW, I would hate to give up coffee completely! I have already cut down drastically! Thanks for the replies! |
