My schedule isn't as set as everyone elses. I average 4 days a week, 30-45 mins cardio, plus a muscle group most days. 45 mins total in the gym each time. I really respect those of you that get 6 days in. |

IMO, your doctor sucks. Probably been thin his/her entire life. Might be better to see a nutricianist. |

I did a personal best on "calories burned" on the treadmill. The Gym was packed Monday, must have been a lot of guilty feeling people. |

Diet is 80 percent, exercising is 20. There are many benefits to working out, not just weight loss. But yes, you sure can lose weight without it. |

While it may be true that you burn more fat calories (percentage wise) at lower intensity, most of the stuff that I have read says that you will burn way more overall calories at higher intensity-including fat calories. Be sure to add some weight training and get plenty of protein to help prevent muscle loss. |

I use the large Foreman with the removable grill plates. LOVE IT! oh, and heres a good tip. Look around at Good Will stores, Salvation Army type stores. They usually have one, barely used, and cheap. Paid $6 for my last one. |

I've been overweight since I was about 7. I like food. I like to eat. I like feeling full. I'm 42 now, my highest weight was over 260, cw is 211. I truly do not know what it feels like to be thin. That is my goal. To be at a normal weight. To look in the mirror and like what I see. |

When you say that your job is very stressful, is that another way of saying that you hate your job? Its really hard to work on "yourself" if you are miserable all day long. Maybe its time to find new employment? |

My two cents, and what I would do. I realize this isn't for everyone. You know whats coming, someone is going to comment. So, be prepared. embarrass them by giving them a copy of your weightloss path. Showing starting weight, current weight, goal weight. Have a week of food and exercise logs with you. Have a pie chart on carbs/proteins/etc. Best of luck, don't let them bother you. |

| Weight Loss | How to inspire an important person.... | Dec 04 2008 16:19 (UTC) |

First off, congrats on your success!! they say that it takes three weeks to achieve a new habit. Maybe try to get your mom to commit 3 weeks to eating healthy and doing some activity. Eating right is the main thing. Can she join CC? When I feel like eating (even though I am not hungry) I come here and read stories like yours, it helps to keep me focused. If you can convince her that she doesn't need to starve herself to lose weight, that she can eat plenty of food (probably more then she eats now, but less calories) maybe she will be on board with it. She also needs to get enough rest. Whatever changes need to be made to accomplish that... I lost my dad at 51 due to heart failure. Looking back, I wish I had pushed him into a healthier lifestyle, It may not have worked, but maybe, just maybe, it would have.

I am not an expert, but it seems to me that a calorie burned is a calorie burned. Every little bit helps. I try to do 45 mins to an hour 5-6 days a week. |

I did some research on this just yesterday. The best indicator seems to be if your urine is clear or slightly yellow, you are doing fine. For a man, the suggestions are between 65-100 ounces a day of fluids plus the water in the foods you eat. I am shooting for 100 a day. I have heard many doctors and others say that if you wait to drink until your thirsty, you are to late and you are already partially dehydrated. |
