So you eat absolutely no carbs or fat? Like, what do you have for breakfast? What about lunch, dinner? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm quite interested.

I usually drink lots of water, but I also consume exponentially more sodium than the average person.

I haven't read all other posts on here so I don't know if someone already said this, but you answered your own question. Cut back on sodium (2300mg a day or less) and you'll quickly see a difference. What really helps is completely cutting out high-sodium, high-carb foods like bread, any form of yeast, potatoes, rice and pasta. Good luck! Smile

Ofcourse you can. But I would still weigh myself throughout weight loss. I mean, it's nice to think that eventually you'll be able to fit into a pair of pants or a skirt, but you'll need short-term motivation because you won't fit into those pants/skirt for the longest time, so seeing progress on the scale will do just that.

I don't know what your sedentary burning amount is, but let's assume it's 1900 cals. You burned 800 cals with activity yesterday, so in total you burned 2700 cals. Now, you ate 1235 cals. Although it's 35 cals over 1235, anyone on here would agree that that's too low, especially when your deficit is over 1000 cals (2700 - 1235 = 1465). When you engage in that much activity, increase your food intake accordingly. For example, eat 1700 cals on a 2700 day, 2000 cals on a 3000 day and so on. This way you'll lose 2 lbs a week the healthy way. Be careful of over-doing it.

gi-jane, since I'm 18 I figured I'd try that kids' nutrition calculator thing you suggested. When I did the calculations, I didn't understand what the pictures with the stick people meant. Like, I didn't understand: should I be consuming 2000 cals on a non-active day or am I burning that much? I'm really confused... a little about me, 5'5", small frame, CW: 173 lbs, HW: 187 lbs, LW: 99 lbs, GW: 121 lbs. I work out 2 hrs a day, 5 times a week. I calculated that I should eat 1400 cals a day to have a 7000 calorie deficit and lose 2 lbs a week. In the past month and a week I've only lost 3 pounds!

P.S. Can I just take CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) to help me lose weight?

Unfortunately I haven't. Dad does most of the cooking. He has the time since he comes home earlier. I come home at 3:30pm after university. I know a couple of Russian dishes so I make them sometimes. Like two weeks ago I made egg & cabbage and fruit pirozki.

That's bad. Stock up on your own food when you'll have a chance. My Dad undercooks chicken too, btw. And steak. And fish. And even pork! I hate pork. Especially if it's undercooked. I think it smells like someone's armpits. And I have a "that pork steak will likely give me those worms I've heard about" phobia.

I'm glad you have something to look forward to Autumn. Don't worry about the guy who lost 5 lbs in one week; I'm sure he'll gain them right back the following week. That's what happened to me on the first week of weight loss. Besides, we all know what losing too quickly leads to (yo-yoing). The food aboard your ship should help your weight loss since you don't like it that much and will likely be eating less of it. But remember to always eat something to curb hunger; stay away from starvation mode. Keep up the good work at the gym. You're doing the right thing by advancing one step at a time.

I wish we lived in the same city! I wouldn't mind having a workout buddy either. Why don't you drink Pepsi 0? There's a 0-calorie Pepsi product out, isn't there? As far as cardio goes, try this website: http://www.myfit.ca/fitnessprograms/viewall.a sp?contains=free_fitness_programs I've been using its workouts ever since I started (or re-started) CC. You could also try posting a forum entry called "Looking for a workout buddy" in the forum of the area where you live. I'm sure you'd find somebody!

Weight Loss Gaining weight..WTF? Mar 17 2009
15:54 (UTC)

You're right, it's just muscle and water retention. Since you do weight training, and muscle weighs more than fat, your muscles have just grown and now weigh more. Your caloric intake has nothing to do with it. If your trainer says you should eat that amount of calories, then you should. You don't want to get into starvation mode because that's even worse than muscle growth. And the protein is a big plus; it helps build muscle mass. Eventually you'll lose fat with cardio, but right now the combination of weights and cardio resulted in a slight weight gain, a good gain at that. Just continue what you're doing and remember that weight goes up and down and plateaus before it's gone for good. You're on an excellent track, don't steer off!

Are you eating protein before, during or after your workouts? What kind of protein are you eating? I've been advised to eat more than the recommended daily dose of protein (for me it's 79 grams). Recently I've tried a protein bar and it felt SO different compared to natural proteins! If you want to you can also try CLA95 (Conjugated Linoleic Acid). I just bought a bottle this Monday to see what it's like. It's supposed to help build lean muscle and get rid of body fat.

I also think it would help to compare your photos to Lindsay Messina's and recognize areas that need to be worked on.
