rainbowjelly-i think dark chocolate is "better" for you because it supposedly lowers blood pressure and provides antioxidants. So kind of like a glass or red wine with dinner. The key is moderation though. |

I think I'll do this to thanksgivin when I eat a slice of pumpkin pie. My main problem area is any kind of baked goods or ice cream. Surprisingly I havent really craved any candy lately..not sure why? especially with halloween around the corner. Whats been helping me is frozen fruit. I just zap some strawberries in the microwave when I'm craving sweets (look @ ingredients and make sure the only thing is the actual fruit)...frozen fruit is a great alternative to fresh fruit for those of us who don't like food going bad (especially any kind of berries) |

I don't think I've told anyone either come to think of it. My family knows I like to run, but that's about it. I think part of the reason I hide it is because I've lost weight before and I've gained some of it back so I'm trying to focus on losing and MAINTAINING eventually. Other reasons include I have 4 brothers and I don't think they really care and I'm afraid to tell my mom because she's always had a weight/food problem so I don't want to trigger her. I don't really tell people around me because I'm sick of hearing "oh you don't need to lose weight" etc. I may be at a healthy weight but I'm not happy about it. Also, I think if you talk too much about nutrition, healthy eating, etc people can get kind of annoyed. But anyhow, we just gotta keep our chins up. We know what we are striving for. And no one can make you eat something...you make your own choices so keep that in mind when you go home. Maybe you should bring some kind of healthy dish and fill up mostly on that. Great job at reaching 150! |

I'm with madisonashlix3, I try and avoid the scale at all costs and I usually wait 2 days after its all over. I don't want to mess with my head anymore than what its going through during those days lol. If I had to estimate I'd probably say I go up 3-5 lbs just on how my clothes fit differently. I try and drink more water than I usually do too. |

You've gotten a second chance! Our bodies have a mind of their own sometimes and so you can't always predict what will happen. Just learn from yesterday and keep moving forward! |

I bought a 8-pack of the strawberry kiwi G2! really love anything strawberry kiwi-ish! I also noticed the HFCS after i bought them but I'm not going to waste my G2's, plus its not going to kill me. I try and save them for my very active work out days. |

Day 3 is almost complete! Keep it up peoples! Sorayazada: I would try and work on the insomnia. Not getting enough sleep definitely makes me more hungry and irritable. Are you up studying? or just unable to sleep? Are you working out? Usually when I exercise it makes me sleep a lot better at night. When I'm up late I usually brew some uncaffienated tea..like Sleepytime tea from Celestial Seasonings. Usually reading before bed helps me fall asleep faster too, especially when I'm reading in bed. If you keep having issues you might consider going to a sleep clinic. On the wine aspect: Since you feel like you can't control your consumption...maybe try reserving wine for special occasions like eating out (wine is expensive @ restaurants so it might make u more inclined to drink less) or I know my mom buys those individual mini bottles (I think they come in 4 packs) if you think you can control it. Other wise maybe try and put aside wine. I haven't had any since May but thats mostly because I'm a recent college grad and pretty broke! lol Goodluck u can do it! |

I'd drink a lot of water. I'm sure you do already but I'd stick with it. I'd avoid high sodium foods and keep training. There isn't a whole lot you can do since your competition is in 9 days and be healthy at the same time...Just keep working hard and hopefully u will get it. Maybe 2100 cals isn't enough for you and your training regime? |

| Motivation | Canadian Thanksgiving | Oct 07 2008 18:56 (UTC) |

aw i wish my family was like emily's! I think i might bring a heathy version of pumpkin pie or some kind of pumpkin-y healthified dessert. Last thanksgiving my family and I went on a walk after dinner which was amazing because we were in florida and walked around the beach and got some good ol' family bonding time. Maybe plan some kind of activity for the family to enjoy and get some activity in the day. Either go to a park or go walk around the neighborhood. I'm running a 5k that morning so I'm not too worried about thanksgiving..its just those days after thanksgiving to christmas. I refuse to get into that winter time holiday funk! Usually for thanksgiving I try to fill my plate 70% with good stuff (veggies, white turkey meat, salad) and about 30% with stuffing and whatever else. It's one meal and I try and focus more on the enjoyment of being with family then thinking about how many calories are in the dinner rolls. Happy thanksgiving! |

| Weight Loss | what exactly does sodium do to you? | Oct 06 2008 20:01 (UTC) |
1 |
We do all need sodium in our diets but most people get too much sodium. According to health guidelines we should strive to get less than 2400 mg of sodium each day. We need only 250 mg to survive. Sodium helps regulate our blood pressure and helps our muscles and nerves function. To help balance out sodium its good to drink plenty of water throughout the day. If you eat sodium filled foods you may get bloated and retain some of the water in your body..aka water weight. If you have a lot of sodium one day just be sure to drink lots of fluids...you may feel bloated for a day or two but it will subside eventually. |

Yes I'd like a buddy too! I'm 22 yrs old, 5'8 or 5'9 and looking to drop atleast 20 lbs. I really need someone to keep me accountable. I'm usually good about exercising (mostly) but the food part is where I get in trouble. I tend to overeat sometimes |

Grr..well lets just pretend yesterday didn't happen and work on the present. I have a 5k this coming saturday so im not too worried about this week since I know I have to be super good. But I'm frustrated at myself because now I can't run today because my stomach is all in knots!! Ugh..Guess it just reminds me again that I CANT keep doing this to myself...no rewards! |

I have to confess too. I too, binged sunday night. After going about 7 days binge free I finally caved and gave into a pint of ben n jerrys and pretty much all my snacks in my apt. But really...it wasn't worth it. I always feel like that after a binge...which may be why I binge.,.I keep seeking satisfaction and nothing can give it to me. It's really quite silly how my mind works. I just have to remember that binging it not worth it! It only makes me feel worse about myself. So here I go...another day 1 starts today but I'm going to work hard to make this my LAST day 1. |
