| Pregnancy & Parenting | Weight Gain in Pregnancy at 30 weeks. | Oct 02 2009 03:32 (UTC) |

I'll be 33 weeks tomarrow and I've gained 33 pounds so far, so I think you are doing great! I really wouldn't worry about gaining too much. As long as you and the baby are healthy, you can lose the extra weight later. If you breastfeed, it will go that much quicker and easier. I dropped 25-30 pounds in the two weeks after my DD. Its hard to watch the scale go back up after just getting it back down. But you can do it again and now that you know how, it will be that much easier! I thought I'd watch what I was gaining the whole time and gain the ideal amount...but this kid has given me one problem after another! He's perfectly healthy (and big!) but he's put me on bedrest and light activity almost constantly since 5 weeks. There goes exercise. And now he's wanting to come early. Can't even walk without having regular contractions. Focus on keeping your kido put till its safe to come out, then focus on being a good new mommy, then worry about those few extra cookies none of us can resist! |

Haha, we have three girls and preggo with number 4 (last one). I bet my hubby will cling to that 1% as well if our ultrasound says its a girl. How many girls do you have? |

Congrats to you! Thank you for your story. I like how you say "get used to" my new weight. That makes perfect sense to me. I guess you body is designed to fight weight loss and if you push it too far, it adjusts. So if you allow it time to think "whatever was causing me to not get enough food is over" maybe you can trick it into giving up more weight a little later on, once the highest weight is not what it "thinks" of as normal. Right? I don't plan on eating like I used to at all! I ate way too much saturated fat and sodium, and not near enough unsaturated fat or vitamin A. I know much more about balance now...and I'm not sure I could quit the gym if I wanted to. I love having my adult time before the kidos get up! They gym is mommy's quite place. You didn't compare how hard getting back to dieting was to starting. Did you have a hard time getting started as well? Which was easier? |

I have been eating enough, most days. The first few weeks I had a few days where I didn't eat enough, but since then I've been doing 1300-1600 calories a day. I do exercise everyday. I do strength training and cardio. I used to take a "cheat day" on Saturdays, but can't afford to go out to eat on weekends now, and am almost scared to eat to much at home, for fear of that "never ending binge." I really don't think I would go too far, but the fear is there. I lost the first bit of weight VERY quickly, but did not plan to. I was taking prenatal vitamins while I got my diet figured out. Now that I can get what I need each day from the amount of food I'm eating, I don't take them. I do sometimes (when I remember) take cinnamon supplements b/c they are supposed to help with belly fat in insulin resistant people....I think I may fall into that group, but I'm not sure. Couldn't hurt is my theory on that. I'm feeling mentally worn down. Physically, I feel great! I'm just sick to death of counting everything that goes into my mouth. Before CC, I did fine at maintaining. I gained all my extra weight at two stressful times of my life. I don't worry so much about being able to eat a normal amount for the rest of my life, but that my metabolism will or has slowed down making me maintain on the "diet" lvl of calories. I do worry a bit that now that I'm so much thinner that I may have a harder time getting back on the wagon after taking a break to let my metabolism kick back up. I do figure I will gain just a bit while my metabolism is fixing itself, a bit of fat, some water weight, and the extra grams of food sitting there. |

| Health & Support | iron question? | Dec 20 2008 16:56 (UTC) |

What is your diet like? Are you getting enough iron from food but just not absorbing it? Are you trying to get most of you iron from supplements? Is there any reason (bleeding, pregnancy) that could cause you to need more iron this time at the doctor than last time? "Certain foods limit the absorption of iron. Foods on this list include black tea, coffee, dairy products consumed in large amounts, and wheat bran." ---http://health.howstuffworks.com/alternative-m edicines-for-anemia.htm Supplements are harder for the body to use. Plant sources break down more slowly (12 hrs) and are used less compleatly, where animal sources are broken down often within an hour. Are you taking vitamin c supplement or, say, drinking orange juice? My advice is keep taking the supplement but focus on eating a balanced diet with all the nutrients you need. Then keep testing and see if your diet has helped. Talk to your doctor to find out if there are any hidden causes that could prevent you from absorbing iron and get tested for them if needed. |

Thanks. I went from 185 to 146, a little more quickly than I expected/planned to. It took about 3 1/2 months, but the first bit fell off REALLY quickly. The last few weeks its slowed way down. I'm not losing as much as my calorie deficit says I should be. This last week, I have been bouncing around the same number, no real loss, just fluctuations. I also just feel worn down. I read about the resetting on here in the ask mary tab. |

I have to admit right off that I only read about half the responses before having to jump in, so if I missed an important detail, I appolgize. I am a bisexual woman who has a kinda open relationship with my husband. I am allowed my "friends" and he is allowed my "friends". This was talked about extensivly before we got married. ---Just giving you my background so you know from what experience I speak. I don't think cheating is a good idea, as someone mentioned, you are potentially exposing your family to STDs. That is a risk your wife should decied if she is willing to take for herself. Sex 2-3 times a year is still enough to expose her to an STD. Women tend to be more emotional in their sex drive. She may be feeling unhappy with another aspect in your relationship that is leading her to be "turned off" all the time. This is probably a lot of your small issue with her strech marks as well. Perhaps it is the fact that you don't share her religion that is leaving her feeling distanced from you, as it is such a major part of who she has become. Perhaps it is something she's never told you, or that you don't think is a big deal. Maybe she's just tired from cleaning up after kids all day and just feels like an unsexy mom. Who knows? Maybe she is cheating on you. I hate to put that idea in your head, but it is possible. Is she not interested in sex altogether, or in you? Have you talked to her about some of these things? I'd say you owe it to her, since you took vows, to work on fixing the problem. You seem to have already detached from the marriage already, and are just waiting on the day you can tell people (including her). Emotional cheating is more damaging to a marriage than physically cheating in my book. Are either of you guilty of that? And what happens if you meet someone, be it man or woman, that you have that emotional connection you are missing with your wife? You will begin to feel more trapped and probably act snippy in response. If you do decied that this marriage is not worth staying with forever, leave. Being married for money or kids almost never works out well. (((Hug))) Think harder. Talk to your wife. I wish you the best. |

| Foods | The importance of water | Dec 10 2008 21:39 (UTC) |

I'm not much on water myself, but I drink iced tea and can see it helping. My hydration lvl according to my scale has gone from 39 adv to 50 adv. Also, my weight goes down a lot faster when I'm drinking more tea. It helps flush the fat out of your system. It also gives you softer skin and hair. If you drink tap water, you get a little extra iron there. Tea has lots of potassium, so the water and the potassium really help flush sodium out of you. Both potassium and water help prevent muscle cramps. Drinking lots of water can even help prevent headaches. If you have the right amount of water in your blood, it makes things a lot easier on your heart. And drinking water helps keep your breath from getting nasty b/c it keeps the bacteria in your mouth flushed out (like saliva does). And, the last thing I can think of, it helps with digestion (esp important if you get a good amount of fiber). |

| Weight Loss | Bless me, Forum, for I have Binged.... absolve me, please. | Dec 10 2008 21:27 (UTC) |

As I am reading and typing this, I'm eatting my second piece of a 220 cal per slice pie I made. If I can stop at this piece, I'll be ok...but the rest of it is looking at me! Two pieces is too many, but the whole pie would start a possibly never ending binge. I know if I eat too much more of this, I'm going to start looking for the next thing. It feels so good during the binge that I tend to forget how horrible I feel afterwards. I'm still using good food as a "treat" for doing so well on my diet...grrr, have to change that mindset...Thanks for your reminder of how it feels the day after a binge. I think it was just what I needed to stop at this piece of pie. I just finished it, and now I'm full AND satified! |

Junk! I'm a reforming packrat. My husband use to say he could look through any one of my boxes and find a receipt when I bought bread two years ago. My answer is "you'll never know when you'll need an alibi!" But I've been slowly and painfully clawing through stuff, reducing the amount of crap I own each time. |

That is wonderful! I'm sure your son will grow up much more cultured than most. How do you pick your cds? Do you do traditional music, pop music, or both? I don't know that I can get my step kids to listen to much of that kind of music, by my little one is still younge enough to start. She already loves African rhythms and rock beats, anything with strong percussion. |

Have you thought about using cinnamon? Check out this link. You could just put it on food or take the pills. The general recomendation that I have found is 1/2 tsp to 2 tsp a day. I don't know how you feel about stuff like that, but if you like the sound of it, it'd be worth talking to your doctor about. There are no negitive side effects that I have found (online or personal experience wise). http://thyroid.about.com/od/loseweightsuccess fully/a/cinnamon.htm |

Thank you for your suggestions. I also posted this question on yahoo answers and I had a LOT of response for Hannah Montana for my 8 yr old. I picked it up for her. I heard Jones brothers too, but I think that may be a little old for her. I got the Chimpmunks soundtrack for the 5 yr old (she's autistic) b/c I think both my 20 month old and her will like it and I don't mind listening to it...lol...ok...I like "witch doctor" to this day. Do you think these are good or should I maybe exchange them? |

I'm with you there. I think girls look much better with a little chub on the belly and a little on the thighs. Thighs that don't touch freak me out! I'm aiming for about a 7-9. I was happy with how I looked then. I used to be a 3-5 but was a little too thin. |

| Health & Support | Seroquel/ Clonazepam (klonopin) / effexor xr... weight gain/loss... addictive? | Nov 29 2008 17:17 (UTC) |

Klonopin helped me lose weight b/c I could actually leave my house and walk around. I say it is not so much physically addictive as mentally addictive (just my experience). I would love some even now (3 yrs later) when I have to go to walmart. Seroquel made me feel like I got hit by a truck the morning after taking it. I tried several differant dosages, but they all made me feel like I drank all night then fell down 3 fights of stairs, so I didn't take it long enough to see any adiction or weight changes. Effexor (I think I took XL, but maybe that was the other one I tried) made me gain just a little bit of weight. Maybe 5-10 pounds in 6 months, but that could have been the depo. I think effexor might be addictive b/c I didn't feel well coming off of it. It wasn't really bad though. Sorry I don't remember the dosages I took to tell you, but that was a very dark period of my life. |

I plan on logging everything, but I wont be plugging the recipes in or using measuring cups. I'll just estimate things to get a rough idea. I am going to use this as an oppertunity to see if I can live this diet. I have everything I plan to eat logged already, so I wont be tempted to eat more b/c I have no idea how many calories I am eatting. I plan to make this a maintance day. I'm about to head off to the gym to give me a little wiggle room though! :D I too have the same plan for xmas (unless today doesn't go well) and my birthday Jan 6th. |

| Foods | I would LOVE all of your hot chocolate ideas! | Nov 27 2008 03:12 (UTC) |

I actually just went on a search for this myself about two weeks ago. I just used 1 TBLS unsweetened cocoa powder (15-20 cals), 1 TBLS no cal sweetener, a tiny bit of salt and put in in plain hot water. You could even top it with a little light whipped cream and stir it in to make it a little more "milky." If you are spoiled on yummy homemade hot cocoa with milk, this might not be as satifying to you. Another idea is hot skim milk with sugar free chocolate syrup. |

Thank you for your reply. I don't see running a marathon anytime soon! :D I just want to be able to run 20-30 without the walking part. I'm kinda doing the C25K thing, only I'm not to concerned with the pace I progress through the "weeks," just that I progress. Do you think that for my goals I should be focusing on my speed (increasing from 5.2 to what?) or just staying about the same speed and focus on running for a longer time with less walking? Which will help me more with losing weight and which will help me more with being able to run longer? |

Sorry Alyssia, I seem to have hijacked your post! No green hue :D , my hubby gets up way later than me, and there is a window in the bathroom... I'm so glad I'm not the only one who lines the scale up with a particular tile! LOL. I have no idea why I do it, I just have to! The scale without ounces wont help. Those tend to change based on how you lean and you'll just get obsessed with that if you are like me, dietcoke. Ah, ocd...what would I do all day without you? |

I strip to take my weight. And the number is up almost a pound some days! I even tested my scale by jumping on, waiting a min or two and jumping on again, and in that time it stays the same. I know you can change the reading sometimes based on how you are standing, so I really try to stand on it the same way each time. I've kept the tempature in my house set the same, place the scale in the same place (I'm a bit ocd, I line it up with particular tiles), I don't know what could cause it. I really need to stop doing that "just to see" on those days, b/c it drives me nuts to not know the answer! Everything about me is a bit odd though...guess its just one more oddity about me. :D |

I can see the benifit of doing it this way, but I too am not happy with it. I can see that the smoother line helps you see how fast and steady you are going down. But I'd like to be able to see the dips and raises too, mostly b/c I want to see how much I fluctuate around ttom, and when I can expect my weight to be the highest. Guess I'll just have to look at the numbers instead of the graph. |

Here's what intresting to me...I weigh myself first thing in the morning and once in a while, I'll be too busy in the am to grab my breakfast early. On these days, sometimes I'll jump back on the scale right before I eat/drink anything maybe two hours after getting up, just to see (usually on the days I get up really early, like to know what I weight at the same time everyday). And the scale read a higher weight! Why could that be? No shower/food/water/coffee anything yet but the number is already up?! Yep, I go with my morning weight just b/c it seems more stable and it makes me feel better. :D |

| Calorie Count | Counting Calories | Nov 24 2008 12:37 (UTC) |

I'm going to attempt to. I don't mean to insult you intellegance, but I'm going to do this as simply as possible. Look at the packaging on everything you eat and look at the serving size and calories per serving. See how many servings you are taking. I always measure out my servings with measuring cups so I can be as acurate as possible. I don't pile something on my plate and then try to measure or guess, although some people may be able to do that. Then you just log your serving size and calories for everything you eat. You are quite litterally counting calories. At the end of the day, you look at your total and adjust/plan for the next day based on what you are eating and what your goals are. I like to try planning the day before and playing around with the meals and snacks I like so I can eat what I want and know that at the end of the day I will be on track. I add and deleate things if I have to, but I pretty well stick to my plan b/c its easier and time saving. Hope this helps! |
