Hey welcome!

I've been on and off this site for a while. I used to think that counting calories was bad; not sure where I got that Idea. What I have found usefull from this site is that I can eat what I want. But I now have a better notion of healthy amounts of food. When I first started tracking what I eat I found that I was consuming around 3,000 calories on some days. Yeah, so just knowing where thoes excesses are coming from makes a big difference for me. Like anything though I have to stick with it. It's easy to slip back into the wrong way of eating, because I have a lot of practice with that. Eating healthy and CORRECTLY is like working a mental muscle that's never been used before. It takes time and repetitive use before it becomes a habit.

Good luck to you.

Accuracy will help to get an idea of where you need to cut back and give you a better all around picture of your eating habits. It is indeed hard to weigh and measure everything. After a couple of weeks I got better at knowing the general oz of the food after looking at it. When in doubt I over-estimate.

The Lounge button down shirts: tucked or untucked? May 28 2009

A very good question. After I gained a lot of weight I hated how I looked with my shirt tucked in. With my shirt out it helps me to cover the fat. With that said though I am in the US Navy and my working uniform is a shirt that must be tucked in. To be honest it looks more professional. And it certainly helps motivate me to loose weight when I have to see myself like that. I can be pretty self conscience though and taking my personal feeling out of it, I still think tucked in looks better.

I usually have to look at what I'm doing at that time of the day. Usually when i get that feeling it's because not much is going on and my body feels inactive. I think what I'm really craving at that time is some movement. If at all possible you should try to do some light excersize when that feeling hits you. I know snacking always leads to a binge for me so I have to find something else to do or keep a lot of celery around me. If after a 20 minute jog, I'm still feeling hungery then I will probably have some carrot sticks and a small handfull of almonds. You might look into what kinds of foods make you feel full with lower amounts of calories. I can't do thoes 100 cal snack packs, there really good and I could easily eat three... ok, maybe four of them without a second thought. Going back to the excersize idea... just trying to find something else to do or even getting set up to go for a quick jog will usual get my mind off the food. I think your body will get used to your new eating ruetine and the 4pm cravings might be fewer and farther between. Good Luck and hang in there.

This really does give me hope. I had been battleing the last few years to keep under 270. Today I hit 250 and I keep working to bring it down. The snaking is hard for me. And I never realized how much I phusically crave bread and rice. But, I'm glad to have read your post today and give me the courage to keep trying.

I hear you loaud and clear on that one. It has always been expensive to be a vegi lover here in Japan. I've been living here in Sasebo Japan (Near Nagasaki) for almost eight years. I may have to do with a lot of news about diet fads in japan right now. I know this week alone I haven't been able to find Banana's at my local market because of the banana diet. I had to buy one at the "Daily Mart" for 105 YEN FOR ONE!! WTF... but I had also noticed the cucumbers where on the rise too... I will ask some of my co-workers and post back away later.

That's Great!

QUESTION:

Do you know of any ways that we can help keep our skin from going that way as we loose the weight?

For me, I live in Japan and try to go to the Onsen (Hot Springs Spa) once a week. It usually consists of soaking in a Hot Spring, Then a dip in cold water and then a 10 minute sit in the sauna (at 90 degrees Celcius). I do this about three or more times through out a few hours. I think this may help to reduce the excess flabby skin as I loose my weight, but I just started loosing the weight and don't have any medical info to back it up.
