| Maintaining | Upping cals to maintain better in future? | Dec 01 2008 04:14 (UTC) |

I'm in the same exact situation as you are in now. I was wondering the same thing but I'm worried about gaining the weight back too fast. gi-jane said that 3000 cals should help gain 1-2 lbs in a month, but I feel that on that I'll gain in a week or two! So far I've just been eating normally, or around the same amount of food my healthy (non-ED) sister eats. (She's only a year younger than me.) I'm basically looking for the same information as cate_starshine; I was in an anorexia phase for about the same amount of time also, and lost the same amount of weight. I don't track my calories anymore, though, because I found it only led me to restricting, even when I wanted to take in more for the day. |

Also, I can't help but feel fatter by eating more. I know I'm just eating normally now but today I didn't exercise no I feel fat now. I don't want to though! At least school is again tomorrow so I can take my mind of all this |

You're right. Ive stopped counting calories and it feels so good to not worry about them all the time now. the only reason i come here still is to track my weight, just for the graph thing, but even that seems silly now. i might leave altogether as well, im young i shouldnt be worrying at all! |

| Weight Gain | do i need to gain weight(am i anorexic?)? | Nov 05 2008 03:19 (UTC) |

thanks for the tips and support you guys! I'm actually going to the doctor in two days ( this was scheduled a month ago), so I can talk to her about it too. I'll basically tell her everything I said here, and tell her about my past habits and she will probably give me tips too. I actually haven't been feeling tired or dizzy surprisingly, though. In response to what personaltrainer87 said, I believe I said I know that purging and over-exercising was problematic and could lead do a serious ED. I feel like I did have a mild case of one because I could feel the thoughts taking control in my head, but I've been finding ways to ignore them and really push myself. Honestly, I feel like I can feel good about eating again, which i know is a good sign. I have the support of my family and close friends who know about it, so I'm ready to go through this. Also, I've been thinking with the mindset that every day is a new day. Every day I push myself a little more to add food again, and if I don't get as much as I'm supposed to still I shake it off and remember that tomorrow is a new day. You guys have given good advice, however will the next post just answer my original question straight-up, because it's been mentioned about like 3,000 to gain weight but is that the answer? like should I increase my caloric intake that much that quickly or work up to it? Also, I have seen posts of like diagnosed anorexics, like people 5'4" and like 87 lbs or something, and they are being told to eat like 3500 calories a day. Should I do this too, even though I'm not a diagnosed anorexic, and my bmi isn't as low as that? Thanks to everyone for your support and advice |

on halloween if you go out and get candy, or you have some leftover at the house, before you eat it, think to yourself, is there anything here that I haven't eaten before? if the answer is yes, and it looks really good, then go for it! one candy wont kill you. and if there is one thing that you just cant resist, have it! again, one candy isnt gonna kill you, just dont go eat the whole bag. besides, its halloween, and when are you EVER going to buy candy at another time of year? its a holiday for gods sakes just enjoy your one day of candy! |

Thank you for everyone's help. Recently I've been finding ways and times to add snacks during the day. I've stopped purging, and have been trying to up my calorie intake. I'm not perfect yet, but I'm on my way to getting better I think. Thanks for the encouragement, and I haven't even been gaining that much weight as fast as I thought I would be. I'm going to keep working at it! But does anyone know any low calorie snack ideas? I figure Id rather have many low cal snacks in a day than a few big calorie ones. |

Thank you guys for helping me, it really helps to have positive encouragement instead of always being told I'm doing the wrong things. I know I'm making some mistakes, and everytime I am supported with good advice, and not just being told I'm very unhealthy, I feel like I can do it. My mom actually does help me by showing me healthy snacks, but it is mostly me. I think my problem is that I'm obsessing over a number on the scale, and if I gain any weight I freak out. I know I'm growing and of course I will gain weight, and you guys are saying I will when I eat more, but how much weight am I going to gain? |

I know what you guys are saying I have heard it all before, but it is hard to just hear it because I don't know how to add food to my diet with a fear of gaining weight. And for my BMI, at the doctor it said i was in a healthy range for my age and height, but I did lose a lot of weight in the past year. I am having a stressful time in my life, but it is getting much better, so I have been trying to eat a little more and stop having an obsession with calories so much. I know that athletes require a lot of food but I've been playing well on what I eat now. I think my metabolism has just slowed down so much that I am naturally not hungry because I dont eat a lot anymore. Im not sure how to get my body back to normal, as in eating a normal amount of food a day, without putting on all of the weight I just lost. I don't want to lose any more weight I just don't want to gain it all back. I have told my mom and doctor this statement. |
