| Weight Loss | Doctors and nutrition - do you know how much training an m.d. has in nutrition? | Jan 19 2009 15:42 (UTC) |

I'm a first year medical student and we don't have a formal nutrition course. We do learn about the complexities of the biochemistry of weight loss, ie why it is so hard to lose weight. One reason why is that why you cut your calories (going from 2,000 to 1,500) after awhie your metabolism will slow, so that you only need 1,500 a day to maintain your weight. Everyone who is a dieter knows this already. Also, 90% of people regain the weight they lose within 1 year and 60% gain more back with it. If you want someone to meticulously go through your diet with you, go to a dietician, its their job. |

My husband is 5'10" and 158 and I am 5'4" and 185, when we started dating he was 150 and I was 165. He knows how much I weight because I bitch about it sometimes. |

Zeitgeist is released every year. Unless its the same one I saw a year ago, but I don't remember anything about criminals being on it . . . I like them though. Conspiracy theories are always fun. |

| Weight Loss | I don't feel that big . . . | Oct 05 2008 17:56 (UTC) |

I know how calorie count checks your BMI. I think it is faulty though. A few years ago I had my BMI professionally read and it wasn't over thirty. My trainer said I have a lot of muscle mass and he predicted that an ideal weight for me would be 138. As far as health concerns go, what is more important than BMI is your lifestyle and waist to hip ratio, which for me is <0.7. I personally think 123 would be way too thin for me. I was not asking for people to give any comments about if they thought I should lose weight. I am not concerned about my health. (shocking) I just don't want to have to live with this stigma anymore: that I overeat all the time, that I don't exercise, I'm depressed, etc. I was unhealthy when I was thin because I smoked and had a mild cause of anorexia. I actually felt fatter at 130 than I do at 188. It is all in how you see yourself and how you carry your weight I guess. I was trying to find people who felt similar to myself. :) |
