isn't my 5 pound weight gain just as important as someone elses 50 pounds? Weight gain is weigh gain.

In response to the last few posts...

First of all, I am NOT undereating. I have been trying to maintain my weight for a while now, and haven't been on here recently, so my ticker probably isn't very accurate. Staying where I was at 112 was fine. I was at a respectable bmi, and I looked fine. However, I have a small frame, and when I gain weight, it doesn't look very good on me, especially since I dance, and all my performance costumes are spandex. So being 112 was just fine, but jumping to 118 doesn't seem acceptable to me. Yes, I know that it is still in the healthy BMI range. However, my point is that I was trying to maintain, and I ended up gaining, and I don't know where i went wrong. that is my main issue. I was trying to eat balanced meals, and somewhere, I obviously messed up. that is my main concern. it has nothing to do with distorted body image, really. it is just trying to get back to where i was, or if nothing else, figure out what I am doing wrong before my little problem turns into a wildfire of weight gain. After all, prevention is the key, right?

but how do i make sure i do it right? I am in college, so a lot of times my choices are to eat something that is quick (which usually means I am not eating healthy foods) or to not eat at all. I had been just going without if i didn't have time to eat anything healthy, but I am student teaching 25 4th graders, and that caught up to me really quickly. I try to eat mostly vegetables, and I work out a lot.

Weight Loss anybody in a weightloss rut? Jul 15 2008

Thanks for all the great tips everybody. I am going to try adding some lean protein, and making sure I have about 5 or 6 small meals a day, particularly when I am at dance practice. Also, i am going to try that suggestion that somebody on here gave me to change up my exercise a little bit, so that I will tone different areas of my body other than my leg muscles. Looking at my stomach, i think that crunches might be in my near future! :-)

My dad is a nurse, and when I told him my symptoms, he gave me a blood sugar monitor and told me to just  "keep an eye on it", whatever that is supposed to mean. That is how I ended up with a blood sugar monitor. The problem is, I am not totally sure what my readings mean.

and for the questions from Lady Kelien...I don't drink anything except for diet soda and water, so there is not a chance that I had drank a sugary drink that would have boosted my blood sugar.

oh, and Type Two Diabetes? What does that mean? Does that mean there is a type one?

so should i only up my calorie intake on days that I have dance practice, or should it be increased all the way around? Also, i had put 95 lbs, before I looked at my BMI, and then never got around to changing my goal weight. (I should probably do that after I finish posting this). My goal weight is actually 105. I am working right now on updating some of that stuff like that. I probably haven't really spent time on this site in a few months.

And I think I need to lose weight because I have a beauty pageant coming up, and lets just say they frown upon any misplaced fat. even the tiniest bit is scrutinized.

hmmm..well, having just finished my finals (I am officially a college junior now! :-) ) I know your pain. I also know that the advice of simply "going to bed" doesn't help, because it just isn't an option. So...what I did was have some pastas available. I love suddenly salad personally. I know that they are fairly high in calories, but your body is burning extra calories to try to stay awake, so you can afford a few extra, and the carbs will give you extra energy. Also, if you aren't vegetarian, try throwing a piece of grilled chicken in every now and then, or even a veggie burger. THe added protein comes at low calorie expense, but provides you with greater mental power to study harder and do better on finals. '

Wish I could give you more advice. Best of luck!

Definately offensive. I work at a high end country club that is owned by the biggerst furniture manufacuter on the east coast. So when we have furniture market (2x/year), the cat calling gets really repulsive. Last market,  i was cat called all week, along with grabbing my ass, and trying touch my boobs, and being offered money for sex. And what did my managers say to all that? They laughed. I can't say anything defensive to these guys, because they are "important clients" so I just have to grin and bear it. Stupid furniture market.

major props to all of you who have quite drinking sodas. I tried it a few times, and have determined that I cannot function without caffiene.  In fact, I drag myself to chick-fil-a at 6:30 every morning on my way to school and order a huge diet dr. pepper to help wake me up. I am sure it is not good for me, but i also know what i am like without caffeine, and that is not a pretty picture. I respect anybody who can give it up!

"You clearly have your own issues to deal with"

"You sound rude."

" I really did not need for you to translate someone elses post. Thanks anyhow. "

Just a few there for you, and besides, its the whole "I know better than all you people" attitude that is clear from all your postings. Honestly, I have to wonder why you even bothered to post in the first place, since you obviously think you have it all under control.

Well, like others, I have better things to do than read you bitch and moan about a whole lot of nothing, so I am going to go and study for my midterms.

yeah, my bmr is supposedly 1388, which doesn't leave much room for a calorie deficit without going under 1200 calories, which according to this site would put me in starvation mode. then i get confused on how many calories to consume on days that I have heavy clogging competition practices. it is all so confusing to me sometimes. grrr.

I don't understand why it seems "Acceptable" for some people on this site to have whining sessions about how much they ate/binged, yet it is completely unacceptable in the eyes of some for other people to have problems eating enough rather  than eating too much. To me, that is holding a double standard. Why would it be a slap in the face? Nobody is calling people ugly names just because they are overweight, so why take personal offense? I think everybody has days where they mess up, whether by eating too much, or being tempted to not eat enough. The last thing anybody needs is somebody coming down on them just because their problem is different. Obesity is an eating disorder, just like anorexia is, so everybody on this site (except those maintaining) are in the same boat, and people should encourage each other, rather than look for ways to criticize other people with different problems.

ok. here are my stats:

20 yrs old. 5'3''. Currently I weight almost 115 pounds. yes, I have gained weight since I last logged it into my weight loss ticker. I workout only once a week, but it is an intense 2 hour dance team practice. I would work out more, but I am a full time student and I have two jobs, so there isn't much extra time for me.

hmmm... so i am considered smug, simply because I am firm in an opinion. Interesting. just because i don't have kids does not mean i am not entitled to have an opinion, and it doesn't mean i am smug just because i don't see things your way. My mother has had kids, and she agrees with my opinion. Having kids doesn't make you the sole autority on this topic.

But as other posters have decided, this thread is getting stupid, so adios!

"you don't know ANY kids, have never known ANY kids, who had good parents, caring parents, committed-to-doing-everything-they-possibly-c ould-and-doing- it,-too, "

hmmm....see to me, that phrase sounds like a great recipe for raising a spoiled brat who turns into a problem child because they demand to have everything just the way they want it.

Say what you will, but I am still thoroughly convinced that parents are at the root of the problem. Just my opinion though.

born and raised in NC. I live in Asheboro (where the zoo is at!) so if anybody wants to go to the zoo with me, I am all for it! :-) I go to school at UNC-G so i am up there all the time too.

And for those who posted that they are from SC, my dad, stepmom, stepbrother and younger sister all live in boiling springs, so I am down there all the time! I didn't know that there were this many calorie counters living near me!!!!

Pretty darn cool if you ask me! We should all meet up at the zoo!!! (Its good exercise, thats for sure!)
Health & Support Recovered ED folks, I have a question? Feb 11 2008
22:10 (UTC)

yes to both of your questions. it has been about 2 years since I started recovery. It took a long time for me to get used to reading my body's signals for food, and even simply knowing to eat without my stomach having to rumble at me first. It probably took a year for all that to happen, but it just kinda comes back after getting into a normal eating habit consistently again.

Your goal CAN happen.

I just ate mexican food without even thinking of the calories, and then came home and ate a small bowl of ice cream, and I don't feel the least bit guilty. This would have been unthinkable for me even a year ago. Do I still tend to make healthier eating choices which are at times (but not always) low calorie? YES. But that isn't an altogether bad thing.

It will come back to you all in good time. It just takes a ton of patience!

Good luck!

" -I don't like eating in front of people

-if someone is in the kitchen I will wait until they leave until I go in and make myself something

-I obsessivly look in my cupboard or fridge, even if I am not hungry and take little bites of things

-I eat at least every 3 hours... I fear being hungry because it leads to overeating

-carbs are only eaten in the morning and avoided later in the day (I still fear carbs like bread, pasta, or pizza)

-I don't like eating past 6:00

-vegetables are eaten first, then protein

-I would rather eat 100cal in broccolli, than 100cal in icecream (safe foods are always choosen over 'bad' foods)

-I will only eat 'bad' foods if they are worth it (ie if I am with friends or boys... I will not eat a cookie by myself, I have to be with someone so that I look "normal" if that makes sense)

...lots more." --CarmenXOX

Ditto pretty much eveything she said.
