any way you and your partner could go to the gym together & motivate each other, not to lose weight, but to be healthy & something you could do together? does your partner run? could u train for a race together?

umm. with lifting, when was the last time you introduced new or different weights/exercises? I had 3 sessions with a personal trainer and I learned new exercises, and different orders, sets which seemed to help me lose some inches (but not weight) if your pressed for time, maybe that could fit into your schedule?

I hear you! I feel like I have the same problem, however I am not super strict with my diet all the time so I imagine that's why I have trouble losing weight. I'm 5'8 between 140- 144, and I work out hard. I have trouble losing weight and i often get frustrated because of this.

I liked the idea of taking your measurements to see progress. Also how about changing your routine & doing different exercises to see if that helps at all?

All I want is to see 135 again, but it seems impossible ..I can't work out any harder.

R you curvy at all?

I am a healthy weight/bmi, but I have hips and a chest and i usually end up looking bigger in pics AND depending on the clothes I'm wearing b/c i have curves. So if your curvy, sometimes in pics you might look bigger than u are b/c of the curves.

just my 2 cents...

Motivation Can't STAY motivated Nov 21 2008

it is so hard to stay motivated.

I try and start small. and if i fall of track I try and start small. By that I mean i tell myself instead of doing nothing I'm just going to do 20 minutes of cardio and thats all. (it is less daunting than the idea of working out for 2 hours!) So i do that and gradually I'll increase the cardio time, over time, and start doing weights, but its gradual so that I don't feel overwhelmed. once i'm in a routine I try and get a motivational buddy. it used to be a best friend but she moved, so I have gotten my bf to start working out. seeing him work out motivates me and we both try to encourage each other.

these boards can be motivational as well if u don't have anyone close by who can be a workout buddy.

good luck.

Weight Loss workout time? Nov 21 2008

On the days that you don't do sprint intervals (the steady-state cardio days) why don't you try changing your weights routine? adding more weight, changing the order of you sets, supersets, learn & do different weight exersices.

Also to change things why not do a fitness class once a week (to start) just to change it up a little and surprise your body & challenge it.

Last but not least, maybe change your running route? that might make a small difference.

Hey jellybelly, try not to get unmotivated, i always remind myself that when you don't have much to lose, you lose weight slower & its harder. Those last 10 pounds are the worst. Don't lose site of the goal. A few weeks ago (right when I joined CC) i hired a trainer. I wanted to learn new movements & form, and I think it has helped quite a bit.  maybe that is an option to help you get through the plateau? I know that after my sessions with the trainer, different muscles are sore, even muscles that have never been sore before! I feel like its working.

I have been trying to work out even though i have a cold, but i think it might be counter productive. i was so exhausted last night i went to bed at 9:30. 9:30! i will try taking some cold meds and speed this up.

Hi all,

It sounds like we have all faced some challenges the past few days. I have no good excuse other than I have caved. I have not been eating properly the past 3 days and took 2 days off from the gym. I am coming down with something so i think that is making me not want to exercise. This is not good because i am having pro photos taken next monday so i need to be disiciplined... but i am having trouble. i forced myself to get up early and work out today. I need to refocus.

I use the calorie counter on this site to see what nuts are best. What I usually do is mix (unsalted) sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts and raisins together (and eat them as a snack).  I hear people recommending almonds a lot… check out the calorie counter and see what works within your calories in the day.

My trainer suggested eating more protien. I pair protein with every snack (usually a small quanity of nuts) and i have found that makes a difference with my hunger.

I would like to join! I just joined CC last week, so this is all new to me. I am 5’8 at 143. I would love to be between 130 -135. I started out around 146. I have been working out regularly the past 2 months and trying (trying!) to be good with eating, but I get stuck around 143. This always seems to happen and I usually give up and go back to my old ways. I have hired a trainer to learn some new exercises to challenge my body so hopefully that will help me get into the 130s… I don’t weigh myself regularly because I hate seeing the numbers on the scale. I need motivation to not give up at 143. I have started reading the posts for this group but it’ll take me a bit to get caught up. My biggest downfall is fast food and eating right before bed, my 2 worst habits. i haven't seen 135 for over 4 years!

i hear your frustration. I am curvy also, and have trouble finding clothes. shirts always ride up unless they are a big, baggy size. i did find a brand of jeans that fits my body well, and over time I bought almost every style & colour they offered! keep trying different brands until you find one that fits u well. good luck.

about the costume, maybe your sister doesn't have it anymore? i'm assuming this because she said she was going to buy it, but offered not to if you wanted to wear it. It didn't come across to me (from what I read) that she was trying to be mean, maybe it bothers you because of the other things?

Dress as something else that you feel good in, and enjoy Saturday.

Fitness Dead lift & back pain, other w/o ?'s Oct 10 2008
19:13 (UTC)

for myself, if i am doing deadlifts and i feel it in my back, i know my form is slipping. by this I mean that most of my weight/pressure should be on the heel of my foot, and when/if I shift the weight i can feel it in my back.

don't work through the pain, thats the body's warning system.

Fitness Severe scheduling problems? Oct 10 2008

home based workouts (yoga/step/etc videos) would work, there would be no travel time in trying to get to a gym, you could fit them in any time.

if your school has a gym, could u stay at the end of your day and extra half hour, 45 minutes and get home a bit later? (bring a snack to eat before u work out so that you aren't starving for dinner?)

maybe re-priortize some things and find time? give something up? you may wind up burning yourself out because your schedule lacks relaxation/rest time.
