gi-jane, I was hoping you would answer! You always have great information and suggestions for people. I feel like I'm eating plenty. I eat about 3 small (200-300 calorie) snack-meals a day while at work and then something of my boyfriend's choosing for dinner. I feel like the foods I eat in the evening are totally killing me, which is why I'm restricting during the day. (For example, last night we had bento, I had about a cup of white rice, a serving of beef and teriyaki sauce.) The reasons I try to avoid the doctor is (1) I feel like I'm always in there for one reason or another, (2) the cost of my health care is skyrocketing (3) I'm not really a fan of physicians as it is, so the visits tend to be unpleasant and anxiety-inducing for me. I'm not underweight, so I doubt I'm malnourished. In fact, in recent weeks I've been gaining quite a bit (went up 5.5 pounds in about ten days). I'll keep logging my food, trying to figure out what factors might be causing these problems. Any suggestions of what I could change in my diet to avoid problems like this? |

It's frustrating because I feel like I've just started trying to balance things out more. The sugar and lactose problem could be valid as I've always been sensitive to dairy (yogurt being the exception) and refined sugars (though I'm not eating much of that right now). Not big on sodium, except for occasionally in the evenings (when I eat with my boyfriend, his foods of choice being ... "man foods" and fast food). I've been eating quite a bit of vegetables (mostly carrots and celery) but I've never had problems with these in the past. As for protein, I think I'm doing okay, I tend to have about 2 oz of almonds a day, plus the protein in my dairy and usually a serving of meat in the evening. I actually worry about eating too much protein. I've always struggled with digestive problems, have had ulcers and chronic nausea for years, though now it seems to be changing into bloating and frequent diarrhea. Maybe it's time to go to the doctor? I really wanted to avoid that if possible. *sigh* |

I think you all have great points. Thank you so much for sharing with me! Amethyst, You're probably right -- It probably startles people that I have a plate of random food when they're used to it being such a work-only environment. Hotfuss, Right on the money there. Things can be awkward sometimes, always explaining or defending. I think your idea to not let myself get defensive is key. Gunnercade, Kill them with kindness, right? Your approach seems like a good idea. If nothing else, I might talk so much that they leave me alone for fear of social interaction. (The bulk of my co-workers are introverts) Not only that, but I totally get what you're saying about the junk food vs. healthy food battle. Sometimes I want a sign that says "Please don't hate me for eating healthy, I'm not judging your hamburger ... I just feel better eating this way!" Michelle, You're a genius! How obvious, yet I never thought of that. Perhaps I'll wait to cut up my fruits and veggies until I get to my desk and just put them in baggies for the trip up from the break room. Fabulous thought!

:D Our break room (where the refrigerator, sink, etc.) is on a different floor and every floor has a lobby/hallway from the work areas to the elevators. People are seeing me in passing with my plate of food as I make my way back to my desk. |

Thank you for all of your replies! Tyners, I'll check out your group! Thanks for the tip! Trish, I 100% agree with the food choices you listed. I used to have a very clean diet and it's really slid since meeting my current boyfriend. I've spent the past week trying to get back to my roots, filling up on fruits and veggies instead of processed foods. I feel so much better! Soupcan, Thanks for your support! The whole "weight range" and "BMI" things are tricky, seeing as everyone has very different bodies. I'm on the smaller end of 5' (usually 4'11" and change) so I think I'll be satisfied at my goal of 100-105. (P.S. Your avatar makes me so happy! I haven't seen that show in ages!) My goals right now are to try not to eat unless I'm actually hungry and to keep up on getting exercise every day. I've been playing tennis in the evenings which seems good, but I'd like to get some weight training in, too. |

| Weight Loss | lose 10 pounds by April 28th!!. Anyone want to join in? | Mar 12 2009 16:51 (UTC) |
103 |
I'd love to join! However, I think I'll make my goal 5 lbs, because I'm pretty small and 10 lbs would be too big a percentage of my current weight. What's the format of this? Weekly weigh-ins or just one big one at the end? Goals/strategy: Cut out my excess carbohydrates (I don't need 6 slices of bread a day!), get to the gym at least 3 times a week and continue walking to and from work when my schedule allows. 5'0, 107.5 this morning. (I'd be thrilled to be under 100 by the end of April, but, I think that's a bit too lofty of a goal!) |

I honestly get mistaken for being pregnant more than you would expect. It's ridiculous! I'm small, about 5' with a medium frame and a small waist. Whenever I indulge in a large meal I get the "food baby" that everyone has experienced (though mine seems to be lower, which must be more convincing). For some reason, no matter what, someone always seems to make a comment about it. Last year at Thanksgiving, my boyfriend's sister (who had recently given birth) quietly went up to him and asked if I was pregnant. The most terrible thing was he got all worried about it and asked me sincerely later that night ... Goodness! You know its bad when your own boyfriend (not a stranger) thinks you might be expecting ... I'm telling you, small meals in public from here on out. |

I totally understand. My damage has been done over the past several weeks since Thanksgiving. (I know, I know, absolutely terrible). I managed to gain about 5 pounds in 4 weeks, but I'm determined to get my eating back in check starting today. Lalabanana, congratulations for a job well done! Lalce, I think you're taking a healthy approach by not worrying too much about it. Good job! |

Well, I've done terribly! I'm no where near the 95-100 that I was shooting for and instead gained myself back up to 110.5. 110.5! I can't believe that! That's nearly where I started back in October. I know there's only a week left before the first, but I'm going to get back to eating right so I can start to lose this weight again. *shakes head* 110.5 ... |

Starting weight (10/15): 112 lbs Last weeks weight: 110.5 lbs Today's weight: 109.5 lbs Luckily, I'm down 1 lb from last week but still up 4 from the beginning of this thread! With only 4 weeks until New Years I may settle on 105 as a goal so that I don't aim for complete failure. Perhaps I'll hit 95 by the Spring? *sigh* |

Oh me, oh my. I know it's not Friday but I managed to gain all the way up to 110.5 this morning. Now I have 15.5 lbs to lose before the New Year. I'm pretty sure that's impossible. Time to adjust my goal? *sigh* Perhaps I'll just settle on a goal of 100 by 01/01/2009. |

Congrats, Icequeen! This week was another bad one. I'm up to 106.5 and I didn't even bother to take my measurements. I know I'm not doing well and having the solid proof might just push me over the edge. This morning after my weigh in I was sad so I proceeded to eat half a bag of animal cookies (and a bit of peanut butter). Wow! That's a great way to get back on track! *Here's to a better week ...* Good luck, ladies! |

I have to admit I'm very scared for the weigh-in tomorrow. I've had yet another terrible week and can't seem to get myself together! Hopefully it will be under 110 so I can still hope to reach my ultimate New Year's goal. *crosses fingers* |

I'm having a terrible tot craving and they have them at the cafeteria at work. Those would be a lot higher in calories than the Ore-Ida ones, right? Since they're probably deep fried and not baked? It annoys me how cafeterias (and a lot of restaurants and fast food places) never have caloric information available. Drives me insane! I'm a pretty healthy eater, but when I have a junky craving, I want to know how much trouble I'm getting myself into! |

Thanks, Icequeen. I think most if it is because I'm depressed. This morning I ate two cookies for no reason (they didn't even taste good!) and now I'm sitting at work with a bowl of oatmeal with almonds that I can't bring myself to eat. I just don't know what to do with myself. It's really hard when life throws things at you when you're not ready for it. *sigh* |

Thanks for the article, Bicycles. I'm a bit confused by it because it seems like the amount can vary from person to person. I usually drink about 2 liters of water a day. I've had three since I started work this morning (3.5 hours). I don't know that I feel thirsty but I just feel really off. I've been feeling somewhat sick since about Saturday. Not ill, but not right. Maybe I should call my doctor? *ugh* |

Girlfighting, Thank you for your reply -- I think you're totally right. I can never figure out when TTOM is for me, but I'm pretty positive it's rapidly approaching. And yesterday I found myself salting everything (which is unusual for me). I've had two liters of water this morning and I'm trying to avoid eating salty foods today (and probably the next few days). On top of all this, I've been dealing with a lot of nausea. I could hardly sleep last night and on my walk to work this morning I was fighting off the urge the throw up. I'm not sure what's up with my body. Anyone know if you can consume too much water in one day? |

Path_to_perfect, Thank you so much for your encouraging words. It's hard when I've been doing relatively well to slip-up like that. I'm sure I didn't eat that many calories (I had a small side of hashbrowns for breakfast (400 cal?), about a cup of berries and red grapes as a snack (about 120 cal), a cup of soup for lunch (160 cal) and then a HUGE bowl of pasta with butternut squash, mushrooms and spinach (750 cal?) with too much bread (500 cal?) for dinner = under 2000) I'll stay away from the salt today (I think that's part of the problem) and drink more water as you suggested. I usually drink about 2 liters, so ... Maybe shoot for 4? I kind of go into disaster mode when I gain any weight lost so you've helped put things into perspective. Thank you so much for your reply! |

I'm so frustrated!! (And disgusted!) I was down to 104 lbs yesterday morning. I've been ill and stressed and not eating well, which explains most of the weight loss. However yesterday, I was feeling terrible and I overate. I got so sick last night from eating too much -- I could hardly sleep I was so nauseous. This morning, I weighed 107.5. Up 3.5 lbs in one DAY? Is that possible? Now what do I do? What should I eat today? Just go back to my normal routine, or do something different? 3.5 lbs in one DAY. That just grosses me out. |
