It was my bf's birthday today! Lol. I got him a sweater, a new winter jacket, a book, and a CD. He liked everything, especially the new winter jacket since he really needed one. Otherwise, make him a tie-blanket. You just buy fleece and cut strips along the edges and tie them together [look it up on google for a better discription, lol] They're perfect for the colder seasons, and it's home-made. :] Hope this helped.

Weight Loss Should I? Dec 29 2008

I've used Hydroxycut a few times, and I really like it. [Don't yell at me, lol] I just take half of the doses per day, because otherwise I experience insomnia because of the caffine. It definetly supresses my appetite, and gives me more energy. It also makes you sweat more during your workout so could potentially burn more calories. I actually took it before my workout this morning and run for almost 7 miles straight. Anyway, it gives me an extra boost, but it might not work for everyone.

This is my problem too. I've learned to just eat 11 chips and 2tsp salsa, or eat 1 cookie. That way I still get to eat all of the things I like- without overdoing it. That way I don't feel deprived and binge out on junk food. You can do it too! Just measure everything. Eat what you like, just in smaller portions. It's much easier to stick to a diet when you're eating foods that you think taste good.

Weight Loss What is a healthy goal for me to set. and any other suggestions Dec 29 2008

Set your activity level to sedetary, because this isn't supposed to include workouts. That way you'll make sure you're not over estimating. Then take your burn meter number and subtract 500 calories. Thats what you should be eating to lose 1lb per week. On the days you exercise, you can eat more if you want. If you combine eating less and exercising you can lose up to 2lbs a week, but you shouldn't try to shoot for anything higher than that. Also, you should never eat less than 1200 calories a day.

If you lose 1lb a week starting tomorrow you could lose 24lbs by June 1st. If you loose 2lbs a week it could be 48. I'd shoot for 25lbs, making your goal for June 165lbs.

I hope this helped. :]

Also, if you need more support- you should join the group *College Students Trying to Lose Weight* there are alot of people your age in the group. We share recipes, workout tips, and do weekly weigh-ins.

Weight Loss Nutrisystem... Friend or Foe? Dec 29 2008

Nutrisystem is just diet food composesd of complex carbs (whole grains) and has you eating 1200-1600 calories a day. I would rather just buy protien bars and lean cuisines. They taste better than nutrisystem and are pretty much the same.

It's just one day, so I wouldn't worry about it. The sodium is about 1000mg higher than it should be. And you should try to keep the fat to 20%. But as long as it didn't effect your calorie intake, I wouldn't sweat it.

I get these too! But  I get a bad headache right at the end of my 65 min run. I've found if I eat a little snack (fruit or a string cheese) before my workout and avoid caffine, the headaches are usually not so bad. Also, make sure you're getting enough water. Hope this helped. :]

Weight Loss Christmas=Chocolate AAAHH!!! Dec 27 2008

Bring some of the chocolate to work, or wrap it in a cute tin and give it to your neighboor. If this isn't an option, put the chocolate away [like on the top shelf of the closet] and only leave a couple of pieces in the kitchen. That way you'll have to work harder to get it and it'll give you more time to think if you really need those extra pieces. I hope this helped. :]

Some of my goals include- [I stole some from other people. Lol]

1. Make healthy eating and exercise a lifestyle change, rather than a quick fix.
2. Get all A's and B's in my college classes.
3. Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night.
4. Stretch before and after work outs.
5. Control my stress and the attitude I get when I'm stressed.
6. Be happy with myself, even when I make mistakes.

Good luck with your goals everyone!

Weight Loss So I've Got a Whole Month to Kick My Butt Into Gear! Dec 22 2008

Weighed in today and lost 2 more lbs. I don't know if this is unhealthy, or if it's just water weight. :[ I was only hoping to lose 1-2lbs per week, and I've already lost 3. I mean, it's encouraging, but I don't want to lose the weight too fast and have it come back on. Anyone else having this problem?

toastyocie,

looking back, i was confused. i was on teenspark. which, obviously, would have a lot of young people. lol. i have found there are a lot of young girls on this site as well. i get a little worried when i read that so many of them are on 800 calorie diet. sheesh, when i was 13 i never even thought about calories, i guess i stayed thin because i was active. anyway, i'm glad you can relate to the people in this group since they're your age. :]

lafoutloud1,

i've actually been dealing with the holidays really well. i love to bake, and have a habit of eating half the batter plus whatever i baked. lol. so i brush my teeth or put on white strips before i bake, that way the batter actually tastes gross. lol. i have a christmas eve lunch with my bf's family, and dinner with my family that night. then my mom's annual christmas morning breakfast, then another dinner with family. woofta, thats gonna be a lot of good food. lol. i'm just going to try to watch portion control and choose one item for desert. plus, i don't want to pig out at one place, and then not be hungry at the next. i want to be able to enjoy each party. i wouldn't stress out about it too much, it's just 2 days of the whole year. :]

hey emily!

thanks for joining! i am actually finding it a little harder to lose weight at home too! i'm sort of surprised. i do have a lot more exta time to exercise, which is great. but my family always makes a big dinner, plus great deserts. so i didn't really think about that. lol.

if you don't have access to a gym for the holiday break they have a great home workout online from Shape magazine. Its sort of intense, but it burns 300 calories in 30 min. Plus, it includes squats and push ups, so you get cardio and stregnth training.

ooh, here i found it online. :]

Your mission

You don't need much more than some floor space and a view of a clock to get a heart-pumping total-body workout. To do it, you'll jump rope (if you don't have one, just jump without it) and perform exercises like squats, crunches, and push-ups. These moves use your body weight to strengthen and sculpt your arms, chest, abs, thighs, and butt. And with no dumbbells or other gear to deal with, you can easily move from one exercise to the next without stopping, which will keep your heart rate elevated--and those calories melting away. Stick this plan on your fridge or take it with you when you travel and you'll always be ready to squeeze in some allover toning.

How it works

Simply follow the chart. For the speed skater, see the must-do move (right); for a refresher on push-ups, squats, and crunches, go to shape.com/cheatsheet. If the workout ever feels too intense, march in place until you catch your breath, then just pick up where you left off.

your workout plan time (min.) what to do RPE * (1-10) 0-2 march in place 3 2-4 jumping jacks 4 4-5 speed skater 5-6 5-7 jump rope 7 7-8 crunches 5 8-9 jump rope 7 9-14 repeat minutes 4-9 5-7 14-15 squats 5 15-17 jump rope 7 17-18 push-ups 5 18-20 jump rope 7 20-26 repeat minutes 14-20 5-7 26-28 jumping jacks 4 28-30 march in place 3 workout intensity moderate to hard equipment needed a jump rope total time 30 minutes calories burned 280 ** * See page 244 for RPE chart. ** Calorie burn is based on a 145-pound woman.

Keep your heart rate up, strengthen your thighs and butt, and increase your power with this must-do move.

speed skater

Stand with feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent. Bend forward at the hips and reach left hand toward right foot as you extend right arm behind you. Raise your left foot, shifting your weight to your right foot [A].

Hop to the left (staying low to the ground), landing on left foot and reaching right hand toward it [B]. Immediately reverse the motion, jumping to the right. Continue "skating" from side to side.

thanks for posting everyone!

have a great day,

Weight Loss Lap Band Diet Dec 22 2008
03:08 (UTC)
2

loriklorik,

why even reply to this post if you're going to be so rude? if you have a mean opinion- how about keeping it to yourself. i continue to be shocked by the immaturity i see in adults. everyone who is on this site has issues with their weight in one way or another. my mother, sister, and aunt have all had lap band surgery and it was life changing for them. also, you know nothing about someone's person situation. my mother has a blown out knee and was unable to exercise, my sister also has handicaps that make it very hard for her to excerxise (and no, they are no obesity related) so, i took personal offense to your cruel response. and as far as "spending lots of money" most insurance companies cover part or all of lap band surgery costs if you have health concerns because of your weight.

suijuris03,

congrats on making a decision that will lead to a healthier you. :] i would definetly recomend sticking to the diet exactly, or there is a good chance you will throw up after eating. (post surgery) it's also important to doctors to make sure you can stick to a very particular diet, to insure that you can keep the weight off after surgery. good luck!
