Foods Assess My Diet? ;-) (How's that for reality TV?) Jul 29 2009

I checked with the calorie counter and you're eating about 1900 cals...I eat that to maintain my weight(5'3" 130 pounds) so perhaps you should reassess your intake and by that I mean increase it by like 1000 more calories. Check out the weight gain thread on meal plans for ED recovery.

PS: I grew up on whole fat milk, yoghurt, butter and I now consume low fat products, honestly I can't tell the difference in taste between them especially in combination with oats, bran flakes, raisins, apples etc; could be the ED talking there dontcha think?  But I do agree that they do contain more sat fats.

What I wouldn't do to be in your shoes. Losing centimetres and not losing weight means you're putting on muscle and losing fat. Remember muscle is denser than fat which means it occupies less space(hence the measurement decrease) but weighs more.

And women can't bulk up to a crazy degree, that extra centimetre is just a little muscle. You'd have to lift insanely high weights and eat tonnes of protein, not to mention be genetically inclined to bulk up or take steroids.

Try and get you body fat % measured at the gym. Callipers are the best option for this.

The Lounge ADVICE NEEDED!! (w/picture - on a dress) May 29 2009

I dunno...I like the idea but the execution looks a bit off, the frill on the skirt portion of the dress is what I don't like mostly. But I'm tshirt and jeans kinda girl so I could be wrong.

This: http://www.shinystyle.tv/Bohemian%20pieces.jp g seems to be a more sleek option for your body type.

Weight Loss my thighs can't be that big! May 12 2009

Um...your measurements sound fine to me, don't compare yourself to other people. You've got  the proverbial hourglass shape. And if you're trying to maintain you're eating too few calories for your height.

And did you really go around asking people their thigh measurements?

I would never come back with "O god another Burger and gobs of oily fries!!" lol although sometimes id like to

I know what you mean...it'd be seen as downright rude to say that to someone.

On to the topic, I usually eye ball stuff like that but I agree sometimes I do get a few random looks when I portion stuff out. But its really weird how everyone elses vision is kinda skewed when it comes to eating right and measuring out portions.

Foods How is sorbet healthier than ice cream? May 12 2009
10:01 (UTC)

Depends on how its made. There's healthy sorbets and some that are just as 'bad' as ice cream cuz of all the sugar in them.

I make my own version of a sorbet using fresh fruit and yogurt(no added sugar, I use a sweetener but if you're against use of those then natural fruit sugars will have to do) I puree them in the blender, freeze the puree(6 hours), thaw it a little, blend it again and serve or refreeze it. Its just as creamy as normal icecream only healthier.

What are your stats? If you're already at a good weight for your height and with a body fat % of between 18 and 25% then your set and your body is comfortable where its at and that'll make further loss harder.

That said, have you tried taking your measurements? Sometimes weight remains the same but measurements decrease which is a good thing cuz it means you're building lean muscle and losing fat.

Keep at it. Patience is the hardest part of getting fit!

Weight Loss Weight loss without exercise May 10 2009

Yeah you can and you don't have to eat just fruits and veggies as someone wrote above, thats unhealthy as you need a good balance of all the macronutrients. Just get a good calorie deficit.  400-500 cal deficit is good.

I lost about 20-25 pounds in about 6 months without exercise but I lost more muscle as opposed to fat. You really need to throw in some exercise. Even 20-30 mins of cardio is good, add in some weight training for another 20 minutes and your golden!

Note to Sarjane: I hope you realise you need to put on about 25 pounds to be at the minimum healthy weight for your height.

Foods Sweet potato May 09 2009

I don't think it would be a problem having them even 7 days a week to be honest. A 114g sweet potato is about 100 cals. Well good in my opinion. And like gijane says there are no bad foods, maybe badly cooked foods and bad diets.

Weight Loss Jello-Mushy Belly. May 08 2009

Congrats on the weight loss! :) I'm 5'3" and started off at about 185 and I feel you on the jelly belly. I didn't even realise I had stretch marks on my tummy before...then the weight went down and voila there they were. But your skin will tighten up as you lose more weight as d_rose says. I'd advice you to start lifting heavier though, 3-5 pound dumbells don't do much of anything for building muscle. 10lbs and heavier if you can. Do some ab workouts too. Strengthen the muscles under the jelly and you'll see an improvent not to mention as the weight comes off you'll already have definition.

"[...] if it was created in a lab, it doesn't belong in your body."

I hope you realize how ridiculous a blanket-statement like that is before you find yourself in a medical emergency with doctors attempting to give you medicine.

Totally agree Kitty, too general a statement.

Unless you're following some new super organic raw food diet (as in, you grow your own stuff and you know whats going ino them)you've got more chemicals in you that a couple hundred grams of splenda could possible have. Colourants, Emulsifiers, Thickeners, Preservatives...all those are made in labs and they're all in the foods you eat. Even table sugar is processed...where? In A LAB!

Weight Loss to those who eat roughly 1600 calories a day... May 06 2009

wow i feel like i eat a lot now but breakfast is my fave meal so whatevs...about 500.

Scrambled eggs(egg whites only or 1 whole egg & 1 egg white), lean chicken sausages, oatmeal, weetabix, bran flakes, homemade protein shakes, whole wheat bread, fruit, yogurt, millet porridge......I mix these options up different mornings (I try to get in more protein though)

Oh and I figure its better to eat more calories especially from complex carb sources earlier in the day. A big dinner doesn't really make sense as you'll be pretty much horizontal all night.

Foods Granola...Is packed with suger why does everyone reccomend it? May 03 2009

Hiya! They were raving a couple of years ago...not so much now.

You're right. It is better to stick to porridge and other high fibre low sugar cereals. Try muesli as an alternative to these...super yummy stuff, its just like granola except way less sugar.

I'm hoping weight training(chest workouts) should help out, cuz my boobies did kinda go south after I lost the weight and I'm only 20...sigh. Not to mention going from a 36C to a 34A...double sigh.

Wow this wasn't an encouraging post at all. I fail...:p

Weight Loss Damaged Metabolism, what will happen to me? Apr 20 2009

Wow...um I'm tempted to rant about how your 2000 calories/ starvation diet is indicative of an eating disorder but its early sooo maybe not. You're still growing, at 15 you should be getting 2000 cals in minimum. If anything do as tealparadise says and cycle your calorie intake.

Weight Loss Reassurance PLEASE. How bad did I ruin my whole day? Apr 19 2009

Agree with madamq and  flownaway, you defo didn't ruin your day. All your choices were really healthy. And you did do a 5k walk in the morning plus played a whole game of rudge...probs burnt about 500 calories minimum.

The Lounge So...does anyone here play Grand Theft Auto....? Apr 19 2009
