The Lounge Shameless or shameful? Nov 25 2008

Corduroy ....I am right there with you.

I have poo standoffs all the time. It's ridiculous. I usually back out first, I guess that would make me the beta-pooer.

Also, recently I have experienced the POO BLUE BALLS ( I just made that up). It's when you walk into the bathroom when you really really gotta go, then suddenly a co-worker walks into the bathroom the same time as you. So then you go into the stall, all while chatting about your boss or some stupid comment about the weather, then you both go into the stalls. You unbutton and sit down, but all you can do is hold it in, because the co-worker already knows your identity. You can't pee, because if you let go at all, it will all come out, so you just sit and hold, wait for them to finish, then come out and wash your hands. UGh . ....its horrible

One more thing, I love talking about poo. I hate how women feel ashamed or have to hide it. Guys get away with it all the time! Frustrating!

Good post!

Fitness Squats Help! Nov 20 2008

make sure your not leaning forward when you do the squats, you want most of your weight on the heels of your feet, not over your toes. you can try keeping your chin up while you do them, and try to point your toes up slightly. might help correct your form.

also, i do sumo squats, which doesn't use a bar over your shoulders, which i find sometimes hurts. you basically just hold a weight at your chest instead. it works for me!

try doing dead lifts and lunges too! good luck!

Weight Loss Grrr, I've hit a plateau Oct 30 2008
14:39 (UTC)

I hit a plateau recently, it lasted for a little over a month and finally in the last two days, I lost about 1.5 lbs. I am training for a half marathon and at first I lost about 6 lbs right away from all the running, but it soon stopped. I started eating less to help take more off, but I was still exercising the same. But then, I decided to eat more, and it seemed to work! I don't know if it will last, but I'm hoping it will. Try eating a few small meals in between your regular meals. Also, don't overwork your body!! I think people make that common mistake to try to burn calories, but your body gets used to a routine. When you work out, switch to either focusing on speed or intensity instead of doing the same thing. It really will make a difference!! good luck

Fitness How accurate are cardio machines? Oct 24 2008

I'm not sure about the bikes, but I read in a fitness magazine that running on a treadmill burns about 10% less than running on regular ground, so I usually just subtract 10% from whatever it says. It's probably pretty similar with the bike. Also, it depends on if you put in your physical info on the bike, some do some don't. It's usually a little more accurate if you have to put in your weight and stuff.

Weight Loss Is Diet Coke making me gain weight? Oct 24 2008

thanks! I just started drinking diet coke regularly (mostly just to get through work without falling asleep). I only have one can a day, the rest of the time i drink water. I was just interested if anyone had lost weight by cutting diet drinks.  I think maybe the sodium may cause water retention, and I am concerned about my teeth, but for now I think I'll stick to it....it gives me something to look forward to.

Weight Loss Do you limit carbs at dinner? Oct 23 2008

Hey Hillary-

I agree with almost everyone that cutting carbs helps lose weight, but it is hard. I just had a suggestion for you that might help. My friend told me how to "cycle" my carb intake.

Basically, for 2 days in a row you pretty much eat little to no carbs. The important thing to remember is that you can't expend too much energy on these days, so do only light cardio/weights, yoga..etc. This is because your body won't have enough energy to perform. Also, on these days you don't have to limit fat intake, so eat up all the PB you want (as long as its a natural or low sugar kind).

Ok, so for 4 days of the week you eat pretty regularly, I would suggest doing what you do now and limit your carbs at night, but eat a good balance of carbs, fats, and proteins in the morning and throughout the day. On these days you can work out normally ( I'm assuming you work out here)

So finally, on the 7th day, you can eat all the carbs you want (without going overboard of course). However, you have to make this day the day you expend the most energy ( I like to save it for Saturdays).  Also, try to save the 2 consecutive low/no carb days for right after the "high" carb day.

It sounds confusing, but its not, and it helped me lose a couple stubborn pounds. It's also healthy for active/athletic people, unlike most low-carb diets. It trains your body to burn up all the immediate energy that carbs give you while keeping your metabolism rate up and at a steady level while your not intaking many carbs. And, the best part is that you have something to look forward to on that "high" carb day too, instead of feeling like you have to limit yourself.

Anyway, let me know if it works for anyone.
