Original Post by omonica:

last night i went out to a traditional pizza place with my boyfriend. they got my order wrong, and considering it was a huge challenge for me to go out for pizza to begin with, i could only manage 1 slice alongside our starters. the annoying waitress walks by my boyfriend's nearly eaten pizza and mine, laughs and says "what are you anorexic?"

it's always pretty awkward when you have to say "why yes, i am a recovering anorexic."

Oh my gosh!  I cannot believe a WAITRESS would say that?!  I am a waitress myself and could never imagine commenting on ANYONE'S weight, let alone asking a question like that!  I will never understand how some people can be so rude!

I had a similar thing happen to me, it's actually the reverse of your situation.  I was waiting on a large party of people in our banquet room one afternoon and a man in the party asked me "how old are you, like 12?"  and I said no, actually I'm 21.  Then he goes "oh, so what are you then, like one of those anorexics?"  That was the worst comment I've received about my weight.  I had no idea how to respond.  In retrospect I wish I would have made a snide comment back, but I was just so shocked that I couldn't think of what to say.

I will never understand why people find it perfectly okay to make comments about those of us who are underweight, but think it's absolutely rude to comment about those who are overweight.  It's the same thing, so if you wouldn't go up to a large person and ask "so, you're pretty fat.  Are you obese?"  then you should realize it's not okay to make similar comments to those of us on the other end of the weight spectrum.

OMG I could LIVE on bread!  I LOVE it!  I definitely eat bread everyday, whether it is on my sandwich or my mom makes her famous Rosemary Bread as a side to our pasta dinners.  I also love rolls, english muffins, bagels, biscuits-- I love it all!  I have yet to turn into a big bloated blob and my consumption of bread doesn't seem to bother me at all.  But I can relate to this being a fear of yours, my fear is fat, but it's something we need to get over.  Good luck!

The Lounge worst insult you ever got because of your weight.... Mar 25 2009

It seems that most of you have encountered insults about being overweight, but my situation is different.  I'm a waitress and one day at work a man I was waiting on asked me how old I was.  When I told him I'm 21 (he thought I was like, 12) he said "Oh, so are you one of those anorexics?"  I didn't know what to say, it took me by such surpise! (and in case you're wondering, I'm not anorexic, just really thin).  What really pisses me off is that people don't hesitate to say something about a thin person's weight, but what if I asked someone who was large if they are obese?  Or if I said wow you're really fat.  It's the same thing, people don't realize that being too thin is just like being overweight!  So if you wouldn't make a rude comment about a fat person why is it okay to do so to a thin one? UGH!

Not quite sure if this fits the 2500 calorie bill but, I tried:

Breakfast: Ocean Spray Cranberries & Honey Oatmeal packet made with skim milk, a large banana and a cup of coffee

Lunch: A turkey sandwich on rye with lettuce, tomato, shredded pickles, parmesan cheese, and banana peppers

Dinner: A large helping of spinach and ricotta stuffed manicoti with a loaded veggie pasta sauce, a slice of homemade rosemary bread, glass of wine

Snack: TBD, but most likely a cup of green tea or hot cocoa topped with cool whip

Sorry if this doesn't meet the requirements to post here lalabanana, but I just wanted some feedback to see if I was anywhere close.  I won't be offended if you delete it.

Weight Gain anyone eat dessert? Mar 17 2009

This is good to know.  I'm glad you asked candycane because I felt like no one ate dessert here either and I have a definite sweet tooth!  I was also looking for the "okay" for eating sweets when trying to gain weight.  My favorites are no bake cookies, Edy's Loaded Cookies & Cream ice cream, Chocolate pudding w/cool whip... mmmm!  My mom makes a lot of baked goods so I am always picking at those too!  I usually allow myself to have something sweet every night.  If you are having trouble adding these food items to your diet I would suggest doing it gradually.  If you don't feel comfortable eating an entire muffin then go with just half.  Often times I won't eat an entire helping of dessert, just enough to fill my craving.  However, I now realize that it won't hurt me to eat it all so I'm going to work on it!

Weight Gain trouble accepting im not eating enough...please advise! Mar 17 2009

Vicgirl,

You are really similar to me!  I am having a hard time convincing myself that I do not eat enough, yet I know I need to eat more in order to gain.  I too am very health conscious and have taken nutrition courses at college.  I won't use full fat dairy products either because they are simply not good for you.

I have trouble eating between meals too, I'm never hungry so I really don't snack.  I try to at night but that is the only time.  I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one out there!  It's good to know there is someone struggling just like me.  Good luck!

Holy cow!  How do you all manage to eat all of this?!  I want to gain weight but I seriously don't think it is physically possible for me to eat this much!  Any tips on how you guys manage this without feeling like you're going to explode?  My problem is that if I eat too much at one meal I'm not hungry for the next so it's hard to eat a lot.  I don't like eating when it's uncomfortable!

It's also difficult because I am a waitress so 2-3 nights a week I can't sit down and eat a large dinner.  Also, I attend college and twice a week I have classes from 9:30-2:00 without a break for lunch.  I'm sure some of you have the same problems, so how do you cope?  Thanks!

PersonalTrainer, I would appreciate it if you could send me the work out routine you described, I would be interested in trying it.

And as for all the comments about me not wanting to gain weight, I will admit that I am scared to do it but I am being so defensive because you are all treating me like I am aneroxic and ignorant.  I don't appreciate it, I came here for support not criticism.

If my weight was posing serious threats to my health I would have had problems by now-- I've been this way for years!  Also, I highly doubt I need to be institutionalized YogurtQueen.  If I were that emaciated my doctors and parents would have forced me to get help by now.  I have no health issues associated with my weight.  Also, I am a waitress and lift lots of heavy trays, if I were extremely emaciated I wouldn't be able to handle that.

Also, PersonalTrainer, I never said I wanted it to be ALL muscle!  I mean, I just don't want to get a "gut" or love handles... basically I don't want to turn into a flabby, giggly blob!  Also, I thought you might be able to answer a question I have about protein and/or weight gainer shakes.  Do these work?  Should I be supplementing my diet with them?  I have seen weight gainer shakes at the GNC store that pack on 2000 calories in one shake!  (these scare me a bit and I don't think I'd ever try them).  But will protein shakes help me to gain lean muscle?  Thanks so much!

It's okay, I just really hate hearing people label me as an anorexic when I'm not.  I eat plenty of food, I just avoid those that are fattening.  If I were an anorexic I would have been forced to see a professional already, as I see my gastro-intestinal doctor regularly and she agrees that I am underweight but does not see a problem with it because I have maintained this weight for the last 3 years.  Thanks for your concern though.

On average, I take in 1800-2000 calories a day and I keep the fat at 45 grams or less.  And I am naturally thin, are you saying if I didn't count calories and fat grams that I would not be thin?  Because I never used to count and I have never been fat.

Um thanks, but I am not anorexic.  I thought this board was supposed to have people like me but apparently not.  Some people are just naturally thin, not all of us have problems.
