I am going to be doing a "test run" for a vegetarian diet next week. It is something I have always wanted to try and see if it was right for me. My goal is to eat vegetarian for one week, and at the end evaluate how I feel, etc and decide from there if I am going to stick with it or not. I'm not exactly sure where to start. I have bought tofu, beans, lentils, cottage cheese, and nuts for protein. I also bought lots of fresh fruits and veggies. We always have brown rice, whole grain pasta, etc in the house. So what exactly do I do with all of these items now? I know I could just eat them seperately but I would imagine that would get boring pretty quick. I guess I just don't really know much about being a vegetarian. I have seen many references to books in the forum, is there one specifically that is great for someone like me, who really don't know much about anything?

Your body shape is what it is. You can't change from an apple to an hourglass or pear. I like the response that said the right size is the one that you feel comfortable in.....your boobs don't smother you when you lay down, you can bend over and tie your shoes without gasping for breath and you can find comfortable clothes in whatever size.  I for one remember being 110 pounds with my measurements 29-29-29 and thinking I was too fat.  I am now 200 lbs with measurements quite a lot bigger but still proportioned the same. I am an apple!  I would kill to be in a size 12....its not big at all for someone 5'7".....if you are short it is huge....see it all depends on your height and bone structure. The best thing to aim for is a healthy BMI. Get over this "perfect" one size fits all mindset!

I personally do not think that a size 12 for someone who is short is HUGE! I'm 5'1" and would LOVE to be a size 12.

My name is unique. I don't care for the spelling though. It is Alica- pronounced Uh-lee-suh. I have recently hear my name more just not spelled the same.

Hi Ladies! So I haven't checked in in a few days I guess I missed a lot. I'll do my best to catch up and try not to miss anyone. I appologize if I do.

Topeze- Don't worry about going overboard for Thanksgiving. I think most of us did. All you can do is jump back on the wagon and move forward.

Dalma- It sounds like you had a great time suit shopping. What is the party for? Congratulations on the dress. I have always wanted to be able to wear a dress. One of these days!! Good luck on the detox. That in itself takes a lot discipline.

Unlimitedana- Like I told topeze, don't worry about going overboard. Forget about it and move forward. Good luck with the shopping. I'm sure you'll find a nice dress.

Ally- I don't know anything about the least thing. Talk to your landlord. Sometimes they will let you out early. As far as living together, if you think it's right, why not. Only you know what is best for you. My husband and I moved in together after we had only been dating for 3 months. Granted I still lived at home with my mom and he lived with his parents so it wasn't so much of a risk. Two years ago we bought a house (before we were married) so that was an adjustment for us living completely alone without any parents or siblings. In the the end though we have now been together for over 3 years and were married this past spring. Good luck with getting everything shuffled around. I'm sure somehow it will all work out.

I'm sorry if you anyone uses a different name than your screenname and I missed it somewhere. Please let me know. It might take me a little bit but I'll try to get it all figured out. Also just a minor thing, my name is spelled Alica, no second i. Laughing It happens all the time. It is pronounced Uhleesa, but you would never think that. What was my mom thinking?! LOL!

So I've done pretty good with eating these past two days. I still have yet to exercise though. That is absolutely my struggle. I just hate it. I love to walk but here it is cold and snowy and no one shovels the sidewalks. I just can't seem to bring myself to walking on the treadmill. Tomorrow we are going to a huge Christmas store and world's largest candy store. I decided that we would have Subway for lunch instead of going to a restaurant. I am going to allow myself one chocolate sucker. Luckily sweets aren't really my weakness.

I hope everyone had a good day tomorrow.

Hi! I'm Alica. I'm 24 years old and weigh 213. My heaviest was 222. I want to lose at least 70 pounds, maybe more. I am looking for people like myself to help keep me motivated. Last week I completely blew it and gained 1.2 pounds. I am starting to struggle and need all of the help I can get. My main reason for wanting to lose weight is to be healthier. My husband and I are trying to to conceive and I refuse to be the fat mom sitting on the sidelines.

Weight Loss If you lose a lot of weight slowly, will your skin go back to normal, or will it still be loose? Nov 11 2008

I was about to say the same thing. Definately do some weight lifting and sit ups. Even if you don't do it all of the time, any little bit should help some. Other than that I have to agree that it just depends. You are only 20 so age is definately on your side. If you do need surgery, because of your age you will have plenty of time to get that done so don't worry about the cost of it, etc until you know if you will need it. Plus a lot of the time they remove a lot of the lower part of the tummy, where the stretch marks usually are, so you will definately get the "skinny body look" by the time you are done. Good luck!

Weight Loss What made you WANT to lose weight ? Nov 02 2008

For me it was a combination of things...

1) My health- I have gained 50 pounds in 3 years. I have high cholesterol and the onset of hypoglycemia.

2) My husband and I want to start having children and I will not lead them into the same lifestyle that made me this way.

3)I no longer feel attractive or sexy even though my husband is always tell me that I am. This has made me uncomfortable naked around him and eventually has effected our intimate life.

4) I don't do things I want to because of either fear that I can't, or fear that people will look/laugh at me.

All of this, and I am only 24.

Weight Loss did i eat too much today? Nov 02 2008
02:34 (UTC)

I really don't now. "Too much" depends on how many calories you are supposed to eat for your height, weight, and build. Plus without having any real measurments I have no idea how many you actually ate. On the plus side, it seems like for the most part you made healthy choices.

I have to agree with everyone else. You look fantastic!! It is a little bit hard to tell because of how you are standing and you are wearing different cloths but I can tell a difference in you hips, thighs, and love handle area. You have definately lost some weight, or at least inches. Congrats!

You can also try amazon.com If you aren't able to find any you can always just stop in to a meeting and I think they are only $10 each. I used to do weight watchers and was always able to find points online (non printable though). Do some research or for starters look up the things you eat the most of.

Weight Loss pan fried chicken? Oct 30 2008

I agree. It sounds great and I might just have to make it for dinner tomorrow. Olive oil is great for you. Just be sure to measure out how much you are using as any oil is a little higher in calories. I like holsfisher's idea of brushing it on that way you get a nice even coat without any excess oil.

Weight Loss Too much or too little? Oct 30 2008
02:32 (UTC)

You have a fabulous body! Being that you work out and have a lot of muscle, are you sure you are not gaining muscle weight and losing inches in fat? Muscle weighs more than fat. Take some measurements. You might be suprised. My only concern would be that you are already thin so make sure that you do not go below your suggested BMI. As far as how many calories to eat, I'm honestly not sure. Do some research. Somewhere you should be able to find out.

Weight Loss Over 60 lbs on Depo Oct 30 2008

I also gained weight with Depo. I switched to the pill and have no problems with my weight as a result. I've been on different pills so I can't really tell you which one might be best. Everyone's body is different anyway. If you talk to your doc, any 28 day pack of pills can be altered to make it so that you do not have a period. What you do (and check with your doc first) is don't take the last week of your pills. Instead start a new pack at the beginning of week 4. So everything 3 weeks you start a new pack. All of the new expensive pills do just that. They are just packaged nicely together. Save some money and do it yourself if you doc says it is okay.

There is still a ton of room in the actual group! Everyone please join and start posting over there Laughing

Vanessa- I saw that you joined the group, but haven't posted over there yet so I'll send you a message here. Contratulation on the baby! 125 and 6-9 months sounds like a great goal. Let me know how the Alli program is working. I've thought about trying it but didn't want to spend the money if it didn't work.

hopeful31- Please join our group. I think it's great that you want to get healthier before you have another child. Have you had problems ttc because of your weight? I am ttc now and figure that losing some weight definately couldn't hurt. I'm glad to hear that you want to get down to 175. It's nice to see people that want "real" bodies. So many people just won't be happy until they get into that single number size.

So I know I sound like a broken record, but PLEASE everyone join the actual group. You all seem so very nice and I'm sure we can all help each other. If you are having any problems or don't know how to find us, please let me know. I'll be more than happy to step you though it.

Welcome everyone! I'll check back a little later to chat. I was wondering if anyone has tried to actually join the group yet? Like I posted earlier, when you to go community, click on groups. Type in "A new beginning". I'm not sure where I will receive the messages but I've been looking everywhere and haven't found any yet. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't looking in the wrong place.

Wow! You guys sure are strong!

Karrene- I'm sorry to hear about the death in your family. Life is a rollercoaster. Now you just have to hop back on. Life is no without struggles and neither is weight loss. I hope you are doing better now. Were you close to that person?

Haley_2008- WoW! That is AMAZING! I actually saw your pics on here yesterday when I first found this website. What an awesome transformation. You are such an inspiration.

lpandmcrgirl- That is terrible that you have to deal no only with the struggle of weight, but also with heart defects. Hopefully it will your heart that will give the motivation to keep going. I'm sure you can do it.

foodismysin- I understand how hard it can be, financially. My husband lost his job so we are living on just my income. I've found several articles that give you tips on how to eat healthy on a budget. Check it out, some of it really is interesting. I don't know where you live, but here in Ohio there are a ton of farmers markets and produce stands. I've actually started buying fruits and veggies from there and freezing them. You'd be amazed at how much cheaper stuff is. And what about buying your meat in bulk from somewhere like Sam's Club. Yes it is more expensive to begin with, but if you seperate it and freeze it, it really goes a long way. I think your first goal being to get down to 200 is wonderful. That is my goal as well. Those health problems sneak up on you fast. I am only 24 and have a few already.

Okay so I wish everyone the best of luck! My goal is that hopefully today I will have an actual group set up. I'll need to play around with it and see how it works. After that I will come right back onto here and let everyone know how to get there. That way, every day or two or whenever people pop on, we can go to our own little community and discuss whatever it is we need to. On another website I am in a group for people that are trying to conceive and have infertility problems. The support is beyond amazing!
