I have been told by my running store to stay away from Nike Shox if you are doing long distance running.  They told me that Shox is ok with "gym" type workouts (elliptical, bike, weights, etc) But it's important to find the right shoe for you.  Go to a running store that knows what they are talking about and they should find the right one for you.

But besides that I love my asics.  They help my feet stay aligned and are light, nice and keep me going.  (My feet has the tendency to point outward while running)

A few weeks ago, I bought shox t they felt comfortable, and looked awesome, then i walked by a running specialty store in boston the same day, with the shox in a box still, and I asked the guy about what kind of shoe I needed that would prevent me from getting shin splints ( I was getting them alot before), and he checked my arch, looked at my pronation, etc, and fitted me with the right shoe....

After he fitted him I asked if the shox I have in the box were okay as well, he looked at them and explained that shox didnt provide me an arch support and thats why i was getting shin splints, sore calves, etc... SOOOO long story short go get fitted I am so glad I did becase my legs never felt better!!!!!!!!!

Weight Loss I have a deficit everyday, Why no Loss? Oct 31 2008

Original Post by scaroppo:

Like you, I have a deficit every single day. I'm not losing weight. I am, however, noticing very positive changes in my body similar to your "my love handles are gone".

I am eating 1600-1800 calories a day, and 1500 on the day that I don't work out.  On my day off from exercising the deficit is around 200-300; on days when I run it is closer to 900; on regular gym days it is between 500-800.  Very similar to what you are talking about (except that I eat more food). I'm 5.3 and currently around 118 pounds. I want to get to 115 and have been there several times but can't seem to maintain it.

Why am I telling you stuff about me while responding to your post? Because I want you to know that you're not alone. It IS math, but when you get close to a weight that is healthy for your body the loss slows down. I'm convinced of this. Stay diligent and think of it as a lifestyle change with benefits. The weight will come off... it just may take a bit longer than you had hoped for. But more than the scale, trust your eyes. Afterall, a number is just a number. It's the way we look and feel about ourselves that really matters.

 Thanks everyone for the replies!

I am obviously still the same weight, but I have made more progress, did my measurements again, from last month, and lost 2 inches from natural waist, 29 to 27, my lovely thighs are still the same... haha

I tried on a pair of jeans that used to give me a Muffin Top, and while my tummy doesnt stick out, doesnt bulge on the sidees, and even feels kind of loose... my thighs are still tight! wahhhh!!!

I'm a choc-a-holic. I love chocolate, especially after dinner but if I made dessert I would eat the whole thing.

Have you tried cutting the recipe down to 1 or 2 servings? I do that all the time...allrecipes.com is helpful with that because you can generate an ingredient list based on the # of servings.

What a GREAT website.. Thank you!!!Innocent

Well first off, I wouldn't suggest eating less  than 1200 cals a day... your body needs that many and eating less slows your metabolism.

You may be gaining muscle, if you're working out that much every day. And the muscle may be keeping your weight where it is despite your weight loss efforts.

How much do you weigh? Unless its a number in the obese category, I wouldn't worry so much about the number, and more about the results. You've said that you lost your love handles, which means you've gotten slimmer. So it seems that while you may not have lost weight, you've lost fat, and that's definitely better, to me.

I agree 1200 or less Calories is awful, and the days that I have the calories so low, were days that I was working late, or just really busy, as you can see I dont have many low days like that.

I weight 136, 5'5 and no its not overweight, or obese, but after working out for 2 months, granted I lost "fat" off my lovehandles, which I am so pumped about, ( check out my gallery before/after pics) I still would like to see my scale drop if only a little. Isnt is SIMPLE math? I create a deficit, a pound of fat is 3500 calories, I exceed the 3500 cal every week, and I lose weight.. why isnt it that simple..:/

I'm willing to bet that that photo has received some serious--and not too realistic--retouching with Photoshop or similar. It actually creeps me out, because they never adjusted the thighs to go with the deformed--oh, sorry, some think it's attractive--midsection. If you really want to look like her, take your photo to a skilled retoucher.

Or I can just work out and become slim like her :)

That's funny... I was just looking at that picture and thinking that it shouldn't be here where so many young women who are trying to recover from eating disorders will see it. I don't find it a motivating picture at all, more vaguelly nauseating because women aren't meant to be that stick-thin. Every vestige of abdominal fat has been removed from the photo, hopefully just with the aid of photoshop and not through unhealthy dieting.

I think we all have different goals, which is fine.. I enjoy seeing her when I log in!

Fitness Treadmill vs. elliptical... Oct 22 2008
18:15 (UTC)

I work the elliptical at the gym for 35-40 mins. I use it at 65% intensity which is level 13 (1-20 option), and I know I am getting a great workout one because of my heart rate, and 2 because I can feel the resistance, its hard work to push the pedals, I sweat sweat sweat, and feel great after.

My legs have builty muscle with the elliptical, and feel much firmer..I agree that if you go and use the elliptical and set no resistance or low resistance you are basically wasting your time.. but up the level and you will feel the burn.. I feel much more worked after 35 mins of intense workout on the elliptical rather then 35 mins 5.0 jog...

Weight Loss Why aren't I losing?! Oct 22 2008

You are losing, believe me... if its not lbs its inches... I weighed 138, and weight 137 as of today... this is 6 weeks progress, BUT... look at my gallery picture, because I have LOST a ton of my love handles and thigh inches, SO... long story short you are probabaly gaining muscle at the same time as you are losing fat... Keep on GOING girls... take measurements and get off that awful scale!!!!

Weight Loss big calves Oct 22 2008

Eek... I have calves that are just "thick" I cant get them defined, and thats because I have fat around them I know, hopefully by lowering my body fat some of the fat will get out of my calves and ankles! They are 14.5 Around at its thickest point.. so annoying, I wish they were tiny and dainty...
