Health & Support Lentil Allergy? Nov 10 2008

When I had my skin prick test at the allergist I came up positive for lentils.  that doesn't necessarily mean I'm allergic though.  I need to 'reintroduce' them into my diet and take note on how I feel afterward.  It's weird.  I also tested positive for beans, strawberries, milk, turkey and some other things...

Yeah, I know, it's a littttle under $5.00 for a pint (I think).  All the more reason to just have a little bit and savor it though!

Do you like seltzer?  They have rasperry, lime, cherry, orange flavors and it has no artificial sweetners or anything.

There is a brand Pure Decadence, that makes the most DELICIOUS soy ice cream in the world, the flavor I get is Pomegranate Chip.  I don't like soy ice cream normally, but this one is amazing!

macadamia nuts - raw or roasted

Raw nuts have a much different taste than roasted, they're sweeter.  Try them if you want to mix it up a bit.

I make a huge batch of fresh, homemade chilli and then eat that all week long for lunches. Its great plain, with low fat cheese, or even as a potatoe topper.

Sometimes I get a rotisserie chicken and then debone it and seperate the meat into 5 containers. I add mashed potatoes or boiled potatoes and whatever veggies you like (I like corn and peas).

Its weird but for me I have to have a hot lunch in order for it to fill me up. Im starving an hour or two later if I have a salad or sandwich.

The chilli suggestion is really great - my husband makes a huge batch with SOOO many veggies and lean ground turkey, it's great, and we take it to work for the rest of the week.

I make a salad with mixed  greens, grilled chicken, craisins, sunflower seeds all the time.  Or you can do tuna salad, light on the mayo, stuffed in a small, whole wheat pita.

OH god I love donuts.  Once a month I'll get a coffee roll or an apple fritter from Dunkin Donuts and they're literally the size of my head.  And I enjoy every crumb of it.  It's actually quite sickening... haha

Mine were very cheap at the local oriental grocery store.  Of course I can't read the label so the store owner reccomended them and told me how to cook them.

I cook mine in boiling water, drain and add to clear soup broth, seasoned with ginger, scallions, garlic and soy sauce.  Sometimes I add snow peas, water chestnuts, slices of carrot, and bamboo shoots.  Some cubes of tofu add protein if I want it.  Soba is so filling - a little goes a long way.

Yum, I think I'm going to do just that... I love snow peas, water chesnuts, and bamboo shoots.  Thanks for the suggestions!

Great idea!  Here are my goals....

  • Be able to run a mile by Nov. 1st (LAME, I know)
  • Maintain my weight at 117/118 and come to grips that my body just may never want to be at 115.
  • Exercise 5 days/week for 60+ minutes
  • Drink, in moderation, on weekends only.
  • NO CHEAT DAYS.  I tend to go overboard and my stomach despises me the next day.
  • Try to stay as dairy free as possible.

  • Steamed broccoli with lemon juice.
  • Oatmeal with raisins and a daub of maple syrup.
  • Frozen banana, frozen strawberries, (soy)milk, and agave nectar in a smoothie.
  • Pure apple cider
  • Grape Nuts with soymilk...

I can't list them all, there's too many!

Yay someone else that uses agave nectar!  I just got introduced to the stuff last summer and I'm in love with it.  I use it in my steel cut oats, smoothies, tea, to sweeten all natural almond butter... pretty much everything!

I think that all dairy products should be whole fat with the exception of SOME cheese, and milk.  Low fat cream cheese is SO gross, and don't even get me started on LF sour cream and mayo. That's just my personal preference.  But I'm allergic to dairy so I rarely have it anymore.

I've learned to drink my coffee black, and I really do enjoy it especially when I'm eating dessert.  The sweetness in the dessert offsets the 'bitterness' in the black coffee.

Greygoose Orange with a SPLASH of cranberry.  It's super strong but will last you quite a while.  It has a fraction of the calories of a regular cran-vodka.  Obviously you can sub this with any vodka you prefer.

I don't know about a new cereal, but Kashi has a new Go Lean crunch bar which is DELISH.  Cinnamon something-or-other.  I'm a sucker for those bars even though they have sugar and stuff.

Diet soda definitely make me crave sugar like crazy, everytime I have one during work I always get candy from the vending machine at around 3 or 4.  Same with Crystal Light.  The stuff is poison... think of all the chemicals in it.  I'd try and keep it an one every few days.  I'm working on that :)

I'm eating roughly 1600-1800 calories/day.  I had my metabolism tested a while back, my resting rate is around 1200 so I know I'm fine calorie wise, it can't be fat.

I don't want to be one of those wackos that are overanalying their body, calories, whatever, so I'll just shut my mouth and wait a few more weeks to see if anything changes.  Thanks for all the input!  Except for spirochete, that was a completely useless comment.

I've been working out 3-4 times a week for a month now.  It's really strange... actually, I thought jogging was supposed to be slimming for your legs?  Well, I guess I'll give it a little more time, maybe you're right, thmheh, and it's my muscles trying to repair.  Who knows.  I don't know how women pump up the resistance on that elliptical.  I'd look like she-man!
