| Vegetarian | Best vegan chocolate? | Jan 07 2009 17:15 (UTC) |

i find chocolate to be the least of my problems as a vegan: there are so many chocolates that naturally dont have milk in them! most dark chocolate doesnt, but the lower the quality the more likely it is to have milk. for easily available snacking and baking, baker's semi sweet chocolate chunks are vegan. my favorite chocolate bar i just discovered is from iceland, called Sirius, and it is heavenly. they have it at whole foods.
check out: www.veganessentials.com for lots of vegan treats. congratulations!

| Vegetarian | Being veg on a college meal plan | Dec 11 2008 22:59 (UTC) |

i found th best way to eat vegan on a college meal plan (i just finished a semseter of doing that) was to stick to whole foods. for instance, i pretty much lived off the salad bar, loaded with tofu and beans. for breakfast i would have fruit and cereal (they had kashi go lean sometimes at my cafeteria, it has honey in it but i eat honey) with soymilk. we had freshens smoothies as well-watch out, as some of them have dairy in the mix even though they are described as dairy free. freshens dark chocolate covered almonds are vegan. thank god. taco bell rice and beans are safe, their guac is not. vegetable maki rolls from the sushi place, im sure they arent very good, but sometimes as long as there not bad its all you can hope for with caefteria stuff. theres always good old whole wheat bagels and toast! we had odwalla drinks and granola bars, which are healthy, filling and vegan. does the bagel place have tofu cream cheese? you should request it if they dont, the school needs to provide for people who dont eat dairy. heres some info i found on taco bell (they used to be my fave before the great revelation) Vegan dishes are Bean Burrito (without cheese), Bean Tostada (without cheese), nachos without cheese, Mexican Rice (without cheese), Seven Layer Burrito (no sour cream or no cheese) and the Guacamole. Vegan sauces are mild, red, hot, fire, Soft Tortillas, Pizza Sauce and Green Sauce. Corn tortillas (hard tacos), burritos tortillas and wheat tortilla (soft tacos) are vegan.
good luck! i think its really important to be vegan with the options availbale on a meal plan-god knows where that meat comes from, everything is the lowest quality. |

| Vegetarian | Seitan tastes like... | Dec 06 2008 01:59 (UTC) |

depending on how its prepaired, it often reminds me of red meats like steak or lamb, because it has a distinct grain it has a better chance of fooling you. there are some restaurants around where i live that prepair it so good...an omni i was eating with once had a hard time beleiving it wasnt meat. granted its has no comparable qualities to high quality rare red meat, it is better for the world and your heart. primal strips--something i jsut discovered, like vegan jerky made of seitan. if you can find them you are lucky, they are so good. (and 74 calories for 11 grams of protien). |

| Vegetarian | accidental milk | Nov 30 2008 19:30 (UTC) |

i am vegan for purely ethical reasons. i do have stomache from it though, i think just because its been so long. you have all been comforting i think i am able to live with my mistake, but i am not sure i would drink it if it happened again, because of the stomache ache. if i have already paid for the milk that has been used, and i went back to get a soy one, the dairy would have already been depleated and need to be restocked, and my damage would have been done to supporting the dairy industry. ill get soy tattooed on my knuckles. yes? no? haha. |
