Vegetarian Happy one year vegetarian anniversary for me!! (And I'm so fat I will likely explode soon) Jan 27 2009

Congratz on your 1 year!

Sorry that you've had some weight gain. My only suggestion would be avoid the "traps" of eating out vegetarian "Oh, can't get anything, so I'll just get fries (chips, a double order of hash browns ect)."

Fill up on fruit and high fiber foods which will keep you from getting hungry for longer.

I really liked the book. I was already v*gan however, and that chapter just reaffirmed everything to me, and made me quite sick to my stomach.

I think I "enjoyed" the information on the FDA the most...

Lets face it. Dads just do not know the right thing to say (which would be nothing!) when it comes to their kids and their appearance.

Last time I saw him, he seriously poked me in the my stomach and said "oh my, what's THIS". I was mortified, because i was so self conscious of the weight I'd gained while on medication. I stayed mad at him for the whole week!

But really. You look great.

Ya the ramen was a real blow .. Although I found the "Oriental" falvoured one (I don't remember the brand, they're all different) had no meat and was "Safe" .. but my store stopped carrying it! Now the kind they carry, even the "vegetable" one lists chicken fat in the ingredients! ugh.

Since going vegan I have eliminated so.many.foods from my "list of accetable products" ..

I was really dismayed that most pre-packaged "vegetarian meat products" contain milk and cheese related stuff. Although the gardenburger vegan patties are pretty tasty.

Oh well! Just another reason to not eat junk food. After all. I am still trying to lose 40lbs.

I love chai .. not the "mixes" but the tea bags, with no sugar and maybe just a little soy milk if I'm in the mood.

Green tea is amazing, I just like the regular ol stuff.. nothing fancy.. Straight up, no sugar no soy milk.

My most favorite tea is ................ coffee >.> haha

Ya 2 - 3 times a day sounds more like an issue of ... not moving it all out right the first time.

Everyone is different however. Personally, I don't weight myself unless I've had a nice good #2.

Fiber, Water, many small meals a day .. You'll be fine. Don't get discouraged!!!!

I eat nuts on occasion. I try to get my protein from less calorie laden food (although I know they're not bad calories!!)

But they certainly are yummy ... mmm

Actually I think I will have peanut butter on whole wheat toast for dinner and some soy milk. mmmmm

Working out builds muscle, muscle weighs more than fat.

So losing fat while gaining muscle tone would explain why if you're eating well and working out often, that the number doesn't go down.

Don't pay the scale so much attention. When you're dealing with the numbers that you are, "looking" in like the mirror, or finding out if your clothes fit different may be a better judge.

Vegetarian What did YOU eat today? (veg*n style) Nov 29 2008

I'm stuck at work today, so here's what I brought with me

Breakfast - 1 apple, 1/2 oatmeal with 2 tbsp of milled flax seed

Snack - 6oz baby carrots and about half a cup of Greek Olive Hummus (mm)

Lunch - 2 baked Falafel patties (left overs) to make a sandwich with whole wheat bread, tahini, and sliced cucumbers (I forgot my lettuce /sadface).

I am not sure what I am doing for dinner tonight. I am thinking of roasted garlic and broccoli stir fry...

Haha that sounds pretty good. Glad you were able to figure out what the root of the issue was.

What did you have instead of the standard fare? Did you feel deprived or like you missed out? If you must, have a sandwich, no one is going to strike you down for it :)

But maybe better meal planning is in store for the upcoming holidays. We still have more meat heavy holidays coming up.  Try some recipes between now and then that will give you the same "feel".

I found that things like Gravy were what I missed the most. Warm and yummy, full of calories and roasted animal, buttery... salty... but I digress. I found some recipes for gravy and have been trying them out. I made a really nice cashew based one that I used in my shepherds pie earlier this week (which was really really good and gave that warm "comfort" feeling).  I tried a roasted garlic one as well, which didn't turn out as well (mainly because I messed up and have my pepper thingy on "pour" instead of "sprinkle" >.>)

Probably would need to go to a store that sells v*gan products .. most regular grocery stores don't carry a large selection or variety of products.

It won't turn out the same necessarily. It's not made with the same products. But I'm not seeing how that's a bad thing.

I was the first in my family, but not the last. I have a cousin who is a vegetarian. My mom's response to when I went vegan was "Well if you can stick with it, that's great"

I don't know what to do for holidays. My mom would probably make me something, but my aunts and uncles are pretty set in their meat and cheese ways and just about everything they make is full of one of those if not both. Kinda glad I'm staying home these holidays.

No one else cares really. I'm in orlando and there are a lot of vegan/vege friendly places to eat. The reaction from the status quo of people I work with "omg you're crazy, do you know how GOOD BACON TASTES" to which I say "Yes, I know bacon tastes good. Lots of things taste good, doesn't mean you should eat them".

I don't have a boyfriend or anything. So no problems there. My kid eats vegan when she is with me. But I can't control what her Dad feeds her ..

Scales lie. Track your calories. +3500 over what you burn + 1 lbs. -3500 over what your burn - 1lb... all easyily trackable on the site and using a calculator. The number don't lie, scales however, do.

I am sick sick sick of those boxed rice meals "jambalaya" "dirty rice" (which I made with faux meat) ... They are cheap and easy and because of that, I can't even choke down a spoonful now.

Vegetarian Soup! Oct 28 2008

For those with no cooking, go with Veggie and Barley soup.

I made some the other night. Just chop up whatever ever veggies you like (I used potato, carrot, celery, zuccini, and yellow squash, sauteed onion and a ton of garlic). Cover with veggie broth and add about a half cup of barley. Cook for about 15-20 minutes and you've got a decent (albeit a bit "boring") soup that will last you a few days.

I'm not a good cook and can't do anything fancy. But I don't let that stop me. It could probably be made a lot better with some herbs or something.

I might look this up as well, because I have no answer for you.

But I would guess.. It's better than dairy and meat at any rate!  And with everything, you should eat it in moderation. Get your protein from many different sources and don't just eat the same thing over and over again.

Yeah as far as I knew it was factored in when setting up your account. In regards to what type of lifestyle you lead. Play around under the tools section, I am sure you will find your answer.

However, if you work an hour of overtime I would certainly add it to the log.

Vegetarian I need protein! Oct 18 2008

I like the "faux meats" sometimes as well. They work great in Fajitas. I do not care much for them in soups as the "meat" doesn't have a texture that I enjoy when it's not at least pan fried with a little oil.

Oh, and just because it's not a mammal doesn't mean that it's not meat. Fish, crustations and other sea life also feel pain. /had to add my .02

For extra protein (if I need it, which isn't often, if you keep a sensible diet) I just eat some beans or have a pnut butter sandwich. Carbs are not an enemy!! Have some hummus with carrot sticks or cucumbers.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I'm 30 now and never had an issue with dairy products until about a year ago when all of a sudden I could no longer tolerate milk (although cheese was fine, weird). It only lasted about 5 months. But even the smallest amount (like in my coffee) was enough to make me ill for at least 24 hours.
