Weight Loss Fact or Fiction: you'll lose more weight by not eating after 8pm Nov 17 2009

Fiction: it doesn't matter when you eat, just your total calorie intake versus your burn rate.  You're not sabatoging yourself at all... just note that if you have a big  meal OR a meal with a lot of sodium late at night, you may find that you're retaining more water in the morning when you weigh, and so it may APPEAR that you weigh more

DON'T DO IT!  STEP AWAY FROM THE BROWNIE!

Go brush your teeth, drink a bunch of tea, or do something... but will that brownie make you happy in the long run?

Weight Loss If i stop exercising, will I not lose weight? Nov 09 2009

exercising is good for your body, so i'd recommend continuing to do so.  however, having said that, if you do decide to stop exercising, you will need to lower your calorie intake accordingly in order to continue to lose weight.  you'll be giving up both the calories burned by exercising as well as the calories burned by the metabolism boost which follows exercise.

so stopping exercising IS an option, just one i don't recommend.

the real problem may be that whatever type of exercise you do (is it running? biking? cross-training? elliptical machines? workout classes? sports?) just isn't right for you.  if you run for exercise, but you hate running, DON'T DO IT!  why not play a sport, or try a new exercise, or simply just take very long walks with a friend on a regular basis?  exercise is great for your body and great to help weight-loss, so the true issue may be that whatever you're doing for exercise just isn't something that makes you happy... but something else out there may be the perfect choice

good luck :)

edit to say: if you are indeed a teen that is undereating, though, the previous poster is probably correct - you hate exercise because you're not nourishing your body enough to do it

If you could lose weight anywhere on your body where would it be: My tummy and inner thighs.

What is your favorite weight loss breakfast: Oatmeal with some Splenda.  Yum!

What is your favorite weight loss lunch: a tuna sandwich and a mango smoothie with protein powder

What is your favorite weight loss dinner: brown rice, grilled vegetables, and some salmon in a soy dressing

What is your weight loss dessert: sugar free chocolate jello!

What are your snacks and how many do you eat (times a day): popcorn, odwalla bars, apples, carrots... my snacks vary.  I eat snacks maybe 2 - 3 times a day.

What is your indulgent dessert: ice cream

What are the few things that you avoid: chocolate bars, candies, french fries, croissants

What is your favorite workout: running a 5k, walking a bit to cool down, and then working on a muscle group

How do you stay motivated: sign up for races; step on the scale each morning; decide that for Christmas I want a slightly lighter, stronger, and faster me

I agree, it told me I was large framed... and I've always thought I was medium, on the verge of small... which most other tests have led me to think is true... as my fingers overlap just a tiny bit over my wrist.

At fifteen years old, there is so much more to enjoy in life rather than wasting all that energy trying to lose weight, especially when you're not even sure you want to!  Besides, you're still growing - your weight can redistribute on its own, you can get taller, SO many things are going on.  Some people lose their boobs when they lose weight; others don't.  Why take the chance, if you're at a perfectly healthy weight?

From your picture, I doubt that your boobs are "the only reason you're even remotely attractive to anyone."  Don't be so negative!  You're beautiful!

Weight Loss Anyone work out 6 days a week? Nov 05 2009

I also work out six days a week, but my workouts vary between days.

My schedule:

Sunday - rest; Monday - run 3.5 miles, kickboxing for an hour; Tuesday - 45 min cycling; Wednesday - run 3.5 miles, abs workout 30 min, 5 min on rowing machine; Thursday - 45 min cycling; Friday - run 3.5 miles, butt workout 30 min, 5 min on rowing machine; Saturday - run 3.5 miles

It changes a bit if I go on a hike on the weekend, and in that case, I don't run on Saturday.  I find this is a great schedule for me because it keeps me active and I have some days (Tues/Thurs) that I do a little less intensity than the others, and then I get a rest day on Sunday.

Beyonce! Kim Kardashian! Amber Rose! You guys may not know her but a model name Angel Lola Luv!

Oh my gosh.  I just looked up Angel Lola Luv and her proportions are RIDICULOUS!  To me she just really... really weird... unnatural, doll-like, or something.  Curious, I looked up her measurements, which are, at 5'5":34C-22"-40"... seriously!  A 22 inch waist (just a bit bigger than my thigh...) and 40 inch hips!  How does that even happen!

Fitness Am I at the mercy of my genetics? Oct 29 2009

Yeah.  Just accept it.  Our bodies allow us to live, and even after striving and trying to change them and hating them, they really never will be "perfect."  I'll never look like a model - I too am short and my genetics didn't give me that petite, lithe body.

I went through a period last year that was pretty dangerous.  I was never underweight, although I was close and I had lost my period.  There were days that I liked my body then, but it wasn't worth it.  I wasn't living, I was simply a food calculator, counting calories and exercising too hard.

Now that my weight is fifteen, almost twenty pounds more (after a long, hard struggle of binging/self-hatred/dieting) I look in the mirror and while I still wish, on one level, that I could be "perfect," I've learned to accept and love my body.  I can't fight against genetics.  So I say to myself, you know what, NOW you're living.  Now you're happy.  Now I'm running races to be faster, not to burn calories - I'm eating because I enjoy things, not counting to maintain a too-low body weight.  I'm still watching it, but realizing that I won't ever be PERFECT without sacrificing my happiness was a big step.

I just hope that everyone can see that, too.

I'm a little confused about your stats.  Here you say

"I am about 5'4 and weigh between 120-125."

But in a post on August 22, you say you're 5'3?

What are your stats?  Weight/height/measurements/body fat % if you know it...? If we have an idea of that, we might be able to see if it's as GI-Jane suggests (that it's more of a mental thing for you, and that no one else can see it) or if it can even potentially be fixed.

Weight Loss Do you weigh more than you 'look'?? I do. Oct 03 2009

I'm the opposite. :(  My body shape just doesn't WANT to be lean.  When I weighed 109 lbs (at 5'2"), people thought I was about 120.  Meanwhile, my friend weighed 115 lbs and everyone thought that she looked like she weighed 100.

This sucks.  Especially because, now, I really AM somewhere around 120 - 124.  I wonder what people think I look like now... 140?

Additionally, even if you aren't having your periods right now, there is still a chance your cycle might start up again this coming month.  If that's the case, then if you have unprotected sex you could still get pregnant, because even if you don't SEE your period, the egg could still have been released inside you ready to come in a couple weeks.

So be careful.

Just curious, how are all these "sexting" photos getting discovered?  Is it only in the case of teens forwarding them on to other people, or can phone companies intercept the pictures?

If the latter is the case... jeez.  Makes me worry about privacy these days.

I ate a caramel chocolate bar.  260 cal, rather small.  I sort of regret it, but then again I don't.  It was tasty and I finished the day right about at my calorie limit, so I'm okay with it.

So let's say... neutral in terms of regret.

I always know when my period is coming when, for the week or so before, i get some occasional white/clear discharge.  If you had anything like that, I'd say perhaps it was a one-day period.

*shrug*  I don't know.  Just keep it up and hope that next month you'll see something again.  Don't give up!
