| Weight Gain | Should we buy weight gain drinks? | Apr 10 2009 02:57 (UTC) |

I understand that long-term, it's better to get your vitamins, minerals, and calories from real foods, but I've found Ensure to be helpful. I'm eating almost my target number of calories per day (and getting used to it), but I still start to feel anxious when my stomach feels really full. So drinking two Ensures per day is an easier way for me to bump up my caloric intake without me feeling stressed about that full feeling. Obviously this is a temporary fix--ideally, feeling full won't stress me out. But in the meantime, it's helping me gain weight. |

| Health & Support | How much Advil is dangerous when you're underweight? | Feb 27 2009 05:46 (UTC) |

Hm. I've been taking Advil on an empty stomach since I was 14 (I'm 20 now), because I found that it usually takes over an hour and a half for it to really start working if I take it with food, which is too agonizingly long for me to wait. No ulcers or any sort of stomach-upset so far... Alternating meds is a good idea, I have some Tylenol I could start using in between the Advil (it doesn't cause ulcers, from what I hear).

1. Taking hormonal birth control does help prevent osteoporosis, because it increases the amount of estrogen in your blood (low estrogen = bone density depletion = high risk for osteoporosis). 2. The risks for blood clots is very, very low if you're a non-smoker and don't have certain risk factors (obesity, high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc). 3. Being on the pill can help reduce risk of some cancers.
Hope that helps clear up some of the confusion! |

Height: 5'6" Goal weight: 105 (That was my unchanging weight for 7 years no matter how much I ate or how little I exercised -- for all you BMI calculators out there, my nutritionist and doctor agree that this is what I should work toward given my genetics, build, etc) Low weight: 93 Current weight: 98 (I'm finally in treatment -- could use some reassurance that gaining weight is the right thing for me!) |

This is another phenomenally designed ad campaign about women and body image, and what every person can do to chip away at the social emphasis on being thin. (Unlikely to trigger.) |

| Weight Loss | How much sugar do you eat daily? | Dec 19 2008 02:43 (UTC) |

I eat around 30 grams of sugar a day, but it's easy because I'm not crazy about desserts (salty snacks are more my thing), so I think most of my sugar comes from bananas, dried apples and cranberries, and peanut butter (I'm pretty sure mine has added sugar). I don't really eat desserts, so the only processed sugar I eat regularly comes from the occasional instant hot chocolate. |

| Health & Support | I have to take the pill today? HELP! Im a newbie! | Dec 18 2008 21:56 (UTC) |

I agree with jef9up--take the pill. A new pill pack can be started at any time during the cycle, but they recommend taking it on the first day of one's period so that one is "protected" (i.e. can't get pregnant) starting immediately. If one were to start taking the pill halfway through the cycle, for instance, they'd need to use a backup birth control method (condoms/abstinence) for a week before the pill starts working. So the only concern is that if you're sexually active, you'd want to use condoms or abstain for a week. (But considering that you're spotting and have PMS, it sounds like you should be fine. But better safe than sorry, right?) Best of luck. This might be me soon--I had my blood drawn yesterday to test for FSH, estradiol, TSH, etc. because I've been only spotting for the last 7 months. |

| Health & Support | Migraines | Dec 18 2008 05:29 (UTC) |

I used to get crippling migraines until I figured out what triggers them. For me, it's the combination of lack of sleep and not eating/drinking enough. So if I don't get enough sleep one night, I'm extra careful to eat regularly and stay hydrated the next day. When I feel a migraine coming on (visual shooters and nausea come first for me), I drink a big glass of water or two to help rehydrate, take ibuprofen, and try to fall asleep ASAP. The sooner I fall asleep, the faster it goes away and the less miserable I feel. Usually when I wake up 3-4 hours later, it's gone. I suspect that the napping cure won't work for everyone, but I would recommend considering dehydration / lack of food / lack of sleep as a possible trigger. |
