| Health & Support | i have a problem with cereal, any ideas? | Jan 07 2009 21:58 (UTC) |

I love cereal, too. I try and eat it just one cup at a time, though, and measure it out before pouring it into the bowl. That sounds like the best solution for you if you can't change the amount of cereal in the house. You might also want to try challenging yourself to only eat at a table. It's super easy to snack on something like cereal when you're on the couch, but if you don't ever allow yourself to do that, you just might kick the habit through some will power. Also, I'm a huge fan of Rice Dream Rice Milk. I've never liked cow's milk, and the rice milk is super yum. |

| Motivation | Under 150 --- positive people to work with me on this goal! | Jan 06 2009 21:34 (UTC) |

I started up here in November and dropped 15 pounds somewhat easily on 1900 calories a day and regular working out. But now I'm stuck around 161-163, and I can't shake it. I even cut back to 1700, but so far, no results. I think the problem is that those calories include a daily chocolate treat, and maybe I'm going to have to give that up. That's a depressing idea, though. Perhaps more salad-as-meals is the answer. So yes, I too would like to be motivated to get off the plateau. I'm still working out pretty regularly, perhaps it's time to step up the intensity? |

Pizza. I'ma pretty good vegetarian, but I will never be vegan as long as pizza continues to exist in the world.

I have an older model, and I think it works great, even after three years of use. Cleaning it is a huge pain, just because so many parts get dirty. But I think they're all dishwasher safe, so if I had a dishwasher, that would help.

I've been making my own bread. I can't believe how easy it is, and a five-pound bag of flour, which makes at least 3 loaves, will cost you as much as a loaf of store-bought bread. Yeast is also really cheap. I still haven't figured out the best way to do this with healthier whole wheat flour, but nothing in the world beats home made bread. A loaf lasts me a week, and it's a real pick-me-up when I'm on a budget. |

| Calorie Count | Problem: why is it that some database items don't allow you to log amounts outside of a serving? | Dec 02 2008 16:39 (UTC) |

I would love to see a solution to that problem. It's crazy, but sometimes I find myself eating more or less of something than I want to, just so I can log it into CC. That sort of defeats the purpose, no? |

Sexual Activity, Active. Any day I can enter that into my activity log is a good one. I kind of love that it's a choice on the list on this site. But as far as non-intimate exercises go, it would have to be swimming.

| Fitness | want to start swimming!! advice?! | Nov 25 2008 14:52 (UTC) |

Original Post by rysi: I also recommend you get a coach or an instructor. I swim three times a week with a masters team, and I need the help to make sure I'm doing the stroke correctly. Just like running, you can injure yourself pretty easily if you're repeating the same bad form over and over. Also, if you can find a masters team or something similar (check out USMS to find one near you), you can do group workouts that are so much more interesting than just back and forth freestyle. There's lots of suggested workouts online, although sometimes they can be difficult to understand when you're new. But best of luck, and I hope you find that you love swimming as much as I do! |

I recently had a bunch of leftover kale that was about to go bad, so I looked for some recipes, and found this one for roasted kale: http://healthycooking.suite101.com/article.cf m/roasted_kale It comes out with the consistency of a potato chip, and I added a 1/4 cup of shredded cheese instead of salt to give it extra flavor. Maybe you can try that with the salt for a potato chip alternative. As for me, I use popcorn most often when I get cravings, because I usually just want to be munching on something. |

I'm going to embrace the leftovers! Before I learned the magic of portion control, I tried to eat everything I saw. This year, I'm going to try to spread Thanksgiving dinner over as many days as possible. Besides, all that yummy whole food home cooking is so much better for me than the restaurant food I'm used to eating! But yeah, no counting. It will be a great practice day to see if I can eat until full without counting it exactly.

| Vegetarian | I Eat Fish | Nov 10 2008 17:10 (UTC) |

I'm a vegetarian. When it's really worth it or when there is no other option on the menu, I eat fish. On those days I'm a pescatarian, and then I go back to being a vegetarian. On the days where I eat no animal products at all, I'm vegan. That's how I define myself. If you don't agree with me, that's fine. All these labels can be really defeating to ourselves and others who want to be more progressive in their diets. How long after my last fish meal do I have to wait until I can officially be called "vegetarian" again? What threshold must I cross to earn that badge of honor? If we really want more people to embrace a vegetarian diet, we must not make it an exclusive club. This is not AA, where you get a badge for being x-many days meat free. This is a gradual movement towards the understanding of how damaging meat is to our planet and our bodies, and some people need more time to adjust. But if you fall off the wagon one day, or even make a choice to try a food that doesn't fit into the exact definition of your diet, I think you should still get to call yourself by what you aspire to be. Otherwise, no one will ever be perfect, and fewer people will be willing to try. We'd benifit from more people calling themselves vegetarian, even if we can't all agree on the definition. |

Sometimes I like to have an avacado with salsa in the morning. That fills me up for hours. And thanks for this question and everyone who replied, I think I now know what to have for breakfast for weeks! |

Yeah, fresh cranberries are disappointing in taste. One thing you can do, if you don't feel like eating them, is freeze them until the holidays. You can make some beautiful decor by stringing them together with popcorn. |
