I usually go into the Fitness Center, do my thing and try not to pay too much attention to people around me. That being said, I can't stand when someone intentionally gets on the elliptical right next to me when there are many other identical machines open only to constantly look over at my stats. Gosh that irks me - worry about yourself! I also find it semi-annoying to see the same people come it the same time every day get on the same machine do an extremely low resistance workout, never break a sweat and then look disgusted at me who is all sweaty. And please tell me how you can possibly workout in jeans and sandals... for real! One more pet peeve - there are 2 of every weight machine at my facility. Why must you stand beside me doing the leg press with arms crossed and a look of impatience when there is another one open 20 feet behind you. Arrrr. |

Why not just donate some money directly. Using "but it is for a good cause" as justification for going out of your way to buy and eat a blizzard doesn't seem like a good idea to me if you are serious about loosing weight, because believe me it is so easy to continue to justify bad food choices: "it was free", "it was so and so's b-day", "it is Friday", etc. No one is making you support the cause that way. Just my opinion of course... |

Homemade bread... like banana bread, zucchini bread, pumpkin bread, etc. I suppose I could figure it out, but I don't want too :-) |

Interesting. And oddly enough my best finish so far in a 5K was the one race (out of the 15 I have run) that I had to walk a little bit in the middle to catch my breath. I did seem to give me the extra strength to gain speed again. Hmmm... |

| Fitness | What exercise did you do today? | May 11 2009 17:57 (UTC) |

I ran 6.5 miles this morning (55 min) and then powerwalked on an incline w/hand-weights for 35 min. I also did a 15 mile ride on my new exercise bike (45 min) and hope to squeeze in 30-min on the elliptical this afternoon. Monday night I usually walk w/ a friend around the lake (2.5 miles) while our kids are at scouts but it looks like rain. I may also do some work w/ dumbbells @ some point for upper-body strength (usually 3 sets of 20, curls, lifts, etc). This is a typical weekday for me. Throw in working retail part-time and chasing 2 kids and I stay very busy! I try to limit the cardio on Sundays and just do a video or 2 and some general strengthing exercises (lunges, crunches, etc.). I should mention that I love to eat, so I am getting plenty of calories to fuel this kind of workout. |

| Foods | what are your worst binge stories? | Apr 25 2009 01:34 (UTC) |

Well, I thought I had already posted my worst, but I had one a few weeks ago that astonishes me now. I am in a much better place and have not had the "binge urge" since but here it was... egg white, veggie, burrito cup of fruit... so far so good, then I snapped a large piece of carrot cake 2 small cinnamon muffins 6 pastry bites a bear claw a HUGE brownie that had cream cheese and frosting 8 Dunkin Donut munchkins 1 container of broccoli, cheese and rice casserole caprese salad an assortment of small Easter candies 3 pieces of pizza a box of Whoppers a dozen chocolate covered mashmellow eggs a handful of chips (to conteract the sugar) I have since learned that months of creating large calorie deficits when I am on the verge of being underweight was stupid and directly resulted in 2 months of weeky binges. My body was just trying to protect itself from starving. So not worth it. |

Looking back on my typical day, I should have weighed a lot more than I did. My day usually went like this... Breakfast was 2 poptarts and a huge glass of milk or 3 servings of some sugary cereal in milk (of course I though I was eating 1 serving since it fit in the bowl) Lunch was fast-food if I worked: a Big n Tasty, large fry and Diet Coke from MCD or some other combo meal from somewhere. If I was home I would have 2 grilled cheese on white bread and a can of Chef Boyardee. Snack was 3 cookies and several servings of Cheese-its Dinner was something like a Huge plate of pasta w/sauce, 3 pieces of garlic bread and canned green beans, or 2 hotdogs in buns w/ a can of baked beans, or 1/2 a frozen pizza, or 6 oven chicken nuggets and a huge amount of oven fries drenched in ketchup. Dessert was every night - a HUGE bowl of ice cream, or a massive brownie or a big slice of cake - I would alwasy find something!
WOW |

I have always been a big eater. Everyone is shocked by the amount of food I can eat and never get sick. Sweets are my downfall by far. I have had some pretty horrible binge experiences lately and I am trying to get it under control. Not proud of this at all, just sharing my experience. Last week after I dropped my daughter off at school, my 4yo son and I drove to the local bakery and after spending 10 minutes eyeing the cases of treats I ordered: a chocolate croissant, a p-nut butter chocolate chip cookie, a strawberry danish, a cream cheese danish, and a HUGE iced brownie. I told the lady I was buying it all to share with co-workers. I proceeded to eat every single crumb of it all on the drive home and then made sure to throw the box away before I got home. My son was very confused - not proud at all. I want to get to the point where I can go into the bakery, pick out one treat, eat it like normal, not feel guilty and go on with my day. It seems to be all or nothing with me. Either I am a food Nazi and won't as much as touch the stuff, or I eat everything I can get my hands on. I will break this cycle! |

| Weight Loss | how much weight have you gained since age 18? | Mar 04 2009 22:07 (UTC) |

I was 135 when I was 18. I am 5'3", so I was a little chubby. I gained up to 155 in my 20's and now at 31 am 100lbs. I remember wanting to loose a little in H.S. but it was really never an issue or a priority. Wasn't until my kids were born and I gained to my highest that I started getting serious. |

Before I lost the weight... I work in a clothing store and a lady spent 20 minutes telling me how obese her sister was, how she gained a grotesque amount of weight and nothing fit her, etc. She then procedded to ask me to try on a robe because "she is about your size." Nice. After I lost the weight... I'll pray for you. |
