I would love to live in a world where we stopped comparing ourselves with others, making assumptions/generalizations, and judging each other.  Once I find a place like that, I'll let you know.

Possibly? Hahaha.

Thanks.

I guess when I said 'stall' I actually meant 'slow down and be pretty inefficient'. I sound really dumb taking into account the fact that stall means stop. Damn, I need to stop trying to make points without reading and interpreting.

[generalization] Those darn fat girls, always bitter about skinny girls who can eat whatever they want without gaining weight. [/generalization]

Body superiority, in any form, is stupid.

I think that a lot of you are missing the point of this post.  The bottom line isn't about bashing naturally skinny girls, or naturally larger girls.  The point is that the poster, who used to feel self-conscious about herself around her skinny friend, has grown to love and accept her body.  And I feel like some of the people posting on this thread are too wrapped up in their own self-consciousness to notice the real point here.  Bottom line, a teenager has learned to love her body as it is, and that's pretty rare at such a difficult age.

The point went way over my head, obviously.

Yeah, it's great that she's learned to love her body, but that doesn't mean being all "lulz I can bike 4 hours and my thin ex friend can't" is a particularly healthy attitude. How is a thread entitled 'Those darn stick girls' promoting positive body image as a whole? That's the bit that annoyed me, and for the record, I'm not thin. It just irritates me when people, however indirectly, say negative things about people of other sizes. Generalizations and misconceptions piss me off. Why can't we all quit looking at each other's bodies, making assumptions, and judging?

if he said it's okay how it is, what gives you the impression that he's hoping for more?

and yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong with a casual sort of relationship like that as long as you're both honest about what you want from it, and there are no misconceptions.

bottled water = bad for the environment. you're going to burn in eco hell, sorry bro.

edit: and so this is more on topic...drinking loads of water at once is not good for you. it's better to have it spread over the day. however I usually chug 3 cups whenever I remember or if I'm thirsty. your mileage may vary.

All that aside, here's the meat of my argument:

Eating WAY less than you're supposed to = body burns less to compensate = deficit doesn't happen = weight loss doesn't happen, or happens more slowly

What's debatable about that? Do we agree or disagree?

Many people don't count their calories properly, but that can hardly account for every case of a lowered metabolism. Would you prefer I refer to starvation mode/response as 'a lowered metabolism brought on by starvation level calories'? Because that's what I mean.

Eating a very low amount of calories, aka starving yourself = stalled weight loss, unless we're under different impressions of what stalled means.

I quess it depends how you define it. Does weight loss stall if you eat too few calories, no.

uh, yes.

sorry.

People use starvation mode as an excuse soooooooo much. If a person's in a deficit they'll lose weight, and if there not, they won't, pretty simple concept.

If someone has been eating chronically low in calories and starts to lie to themselves about how much they eat and stalls, who's fault is that.

Starvation mode is simply the body shedding muscle to find homostasis all because the person is a **** hunter.

Now if a person gains weight on 1200 calories, then it's time to start lifting weights and eating some food. And if you work at it hard enough the body will reward that **** hunter with some vitality and a body capable of maintaining a decent metabolism.........of course we wouldn't need to be on a diet anymore, and then we wouldn't need to complain that starvation mode has stalled us in our weight loss............what to do, what to do.Laughing

If you're in a deficit you lose weight. However, a deficit does not happen when you deprive your body for long periods of time, because it gets smart and adjusts how much it burns. Hence, weight loss stalls if you eat too few calories. starvation mode!!!!11

It sounds to me like they're just trying to bully you into getting a trainer. While some people plateau and gain it all back, that doesn't mean you will. You can work through plateaus. You can lose weight by yourself. You don't need a trainer, nutritionist, life coach or anyone else to lose 35 lbs. While these resources are very helpful, they aren't necessary.

Plenty of people on here have lost much more than that without trainers. It's impressive. I don't even go to a gym right now, and I've lost 10 lbs which are not coming back. I've learned so much from the forums on Calorie Count as well (especially the fitness one). I think that if someone has the education, creativity and determination, they can make it work.

Be proud, and don't get down on yourself. :D Good luck!

Also, I'm around 160 too, and my goal is 130. If you want someone to chat with when you're feeling discouraged, you can message me if you like :3

I've never noticed chunkier girls having nice faces any more than thinner girls, but 'nice face' is subjective. People can attractive at any weight. To be totally honest, I have a fat face, and it's not pretty. I'll look much better all around when I lose weight.

I agree about accountability and the fact that people cheat calories, but starvation mode IS legit. It's not like everyone with a ruined metabolism from crash dieting is just fooling themselves and eating more than they realize. It's not fabricated.

But yeah, I get your annoyance.

moonbay, that's...kind of condescending.

I've never measured my lower legs and to be honest I don't care to. However, I do measure my waist constantly, so I know what it's like to be insecure about body parts and be convinced that they're manly, ugly etc.

Agreed. It seems odd to me that they are sort of claiming they are a size acceptance show because they feature... only large women. If they are as interested in portraying "Real women" as they claim on the promo video, why isn't there a range of sizes portrayed? All they've done is move to the other end of the weight spectrum, which is really no better than showing all skinny women.

Quoted for truth. Why do they only show the outliers? There is a ground between size 0 and 16+

^ I say a calorie is a calorie. 100 calories of gum IS 100 calories.

I don't count gum though, unless it's very sugary, because I'm not that rabid about my calories. 5 calories over my limit? Whatever. It's your choice.

Nah, I don't think you can delete, but you can edit out what you wrote.

That seems like enough. http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html is a good site, btw.

And if you're insecure about your body, I'd say keep exercising like you are and you'll look better and get stronger. You don't neccessarily have to lose weight. Anyways, good luck : ).

I'm from Canada as well, and my eccentric estranged relatives all bought me bonds when I was little. They were $100 and each one accumulated $40-50 over 10 years. That was lovely, because I unexpectedly found them in a box, but I'm financially ignorant so I have no clue if that's a decent profit.

Good luck making your decision : )

I was hoping for girls who weren't insecure/desperate in their demeanor, but seeing as it's a dating show, I don't know how I could've expected that. I hate it when TV attempts to be genuine and just embarrasses itself. For the most part, that was a pathetic hour.

Showing the height and weight didn't bug me though. As a contestant, your emotions and intimate actions with a stranger are being exposed, so how is weight a big deal by comparison? People on reality shows usually lack shame and modesty anyways.

usually i'd be like "don't drag her personal life into this" but honestly, these topics are kind of pointless and a bit triggering. and between 'what size are you' and 'whats your bmi', idk, could someone explain the logic behind it?
