Save up your calories and just shoot some vodka. It usually has about 70 calories a shot, but if you're drinking after only a light meal it shouldn't take too many. Plus no fat or carbs if you're counting either.

Don't assume.

1. You have no idea what's going on there. None. If that girl hasn't eaten in a week, you've just made it two.

2. Do what the rest of the site does; call them out on it.

3. You were a kid once, too. Give them some slack.

Drink green tea. Eat blueberries. Limit coffee. Drink lots of water. Always wear sunscreen. Work out regularly. Don't smoke. Don't drink... too much. Laugh often, don't worry so much, and do whatever makes you happy. Don't regret anything.

There. You should age just fine.

Eh, it happens. I know when I hadn't weighed myself in a while and was absolutely POSITIVE I'd gained a million pounds, it turned out I lost 6. It felt like a twilight zone moment.

You're going to have a few fat days, just remember that they're all in your mind. It's probably because we're paying a lot more attention to how our body looks/feels that we notice things we didn't before, and assume we're getting fat. Just my theory.

"My mom's too fat, I can't work out."

"Go to hell. I'm tired, I've had a bad day, and I don't need to bust my ass on an elliptical right next to some anorexic 50 year old with washboard abs. I don't give a **** if I get fat."

The latter is my favourite. Might as well be honest.

You HAVE abs. Everyone has abs. There's just a bunch of fat on top of them, so you can't see them.

Sorry to say you don't get to choose where your body loses fat, so you've just got to lose fat everywhere until enough comes off your stomach and your abs show up.

Weight Loss I want chocolate...NOW Jan 14 2009

You're working out every day? Sounds like you're a bit more than lightly active... very active, depending on how hard you go at it. And you're supposed to eat back half of what you burn anyway, so don't sweat it so much. I think it helps to include a serving of 60% cocoa chocolate in your log from the get go to eat whenever you want; it's about 220 calories, which is fine for a snack, and is a heck of a lot more satisfying than milk/white chocolate. Knowing you're actually allowed chocolate means it doesn't have that "forbidden fruit" appeal that makes binging so tempting.

Weight Loss 4 days of straight binging Jan 10 2009
21:01 (UTC)

I went through about two solid weeks of what I considered "binging," which was anywhere from 2500-3000 calories a day. I felt so guilty and I was terrified of stepping on a scale, but when I did I was only 1 lb. heavier than before any of it had happened. So I tried a different calculator, and it gave me a maintenance of about 2500-3000.

Are you sure you were eating enough before hand? You've probably heard of the whole "These calculators aren't meant for anyone under 21" thing, since you're 19, and making sure you get enough fat in your diet, but it's good advice anyway. There's usually one specific food that stops a binge; if it's chocolate, I'm probably not getting enough fat, and if it's something like steak, not enough protein, etc. I've gone as high as 4000 and it didn't make a dent, so don't worry too much. As you've learned it takes a lifestyle to lose/gain anything.

Also, strength training. I'm never hungry after cardio, but an hour after I've lifted some decent weights I'm ravenous. Does that have anything to do with it?

Health & Support i gain when i eat more than 800 cals per day.. Jan 10 2009
20:40 (UTC)

No you don't. I hate to break it to you, but you aren't the exception to the law of thermodynamics. If you had no metabolism (read: were dead) and ate 800 calories a day (the lowest recorded BMR was somewhere around 700, and it was a 70 year old man who was dangerously emaciated, so NOT YOU) you'd only gain 1.6 lbs. of fat a week.

When there is an initial gain when you start upping, it's water/glycogen stores in your muscles being replenished. The scale is going to skip around like crazy for a while, so just ignore it. Calculate your BMR and NEVER go below that, eat back half of what you work off exercising, and make sure there's a good amount of balance in your diet if you want your weight loss to be steady, effective, and permanent. You seriously mess yourself up when you eat this little, and if you don't correct it soon it really can be permanent.

"Thoughts that are bad."

Look at the cookie and think instead, "I want so badly to skip my dinner for this piece of empty sugar."

Or don't look at it at all.

Or throw it out.

Or just eat the damn cookie and stop beating yourself up over it.
