In May I decided that the only way I would keep up my running work was to have a monthly 5k event to do. I've managed to do one every month and along the way make significant donations to variouss charitable causes. A real win-win outcomeSmile

I have a Polar monitor and get the battery replaced at my local Fred Meyer store. There are authorized service centers for Polar all over the country. Check their web-site to find one close to you.

I teach High School. You are absolutely right, the usual school schedule is not conducive to good nutrition. Here are some things you might try:

  1. For an immediate fix, talk to your teachers. Tell them what you are trying to achieve and what you need to do to achieve it. Ask them if you can have a small healthy snack at the beginning or end of the class. Most teachers are concerned about the health of their students and will be willing to help you find a way to make this work.
  2. Talk to your counselor or school nurse. Enlist their help. They may have ways to help that you are unaware of.
  3. Work with your student body officers to try to get a change in the school schedule. All students could benifit from a mid-morning nutrition break. (This is a long term project as schools are like dinosaurs, slow to recognize the need to adapt to changing conditions.)

Good luck! I hope you find some of these suggestions useful.
