Fitness Leg pains...should I or shouldn't I? Oct 29 2008

Vicki... I would take it easy. I am a Physio, and I can tell you, that you have over done it by the sounds of things. I would suggest something that will work, but won't be plesant.... We call them transition baths. Hop into the bath tub, and have it warm, not super hot, and gradually add cold water, till its COLD and then sit for (and really try) for 10 mins. I have some runners that even add ice. Once your done bring you body back to room temp, but not by adding heat. Get dressed, move around, that sort of thing.
Then once your back to room temp... try and stretch them out. It also sounds like the musle that you strained is actaully a hip flexor muscle, not your glutes. Look up on About.com a stretch for a muscle called you psoas, i would write it out but that one is more of a "show you" type of stretch, visual is always better.

The reason that you can so sooo sore is b/c when you over do it you body produces lactic acid build up and inflammation. The cold will help with the inflammation and the stretching will help with the lactic acid.

Good luck and lemme know how things go..

Fitness After a long break, what can weight training do for you? Oct 28 2008

I agree w Ankow, with a great deit the weight will decrease, as well as some exercise,  but that can be taking the stairs instead of the elevator. When your weight training, if done properly, the chemical of HGH (human growth horome) is realeased and it promotes weight loss and muscle mass. However if there isnt a good balance of regular exercise it can cause you to gain muscle and increase the weight you see on the scale. And we all know that muscle weighs more than fat.

I would say start back full on, and you will see results if you are commited.
Good luck!
