Arms: 12.50

Motivation: Seeing how far I've come and that it is possible to do this. I love feeling more flexible, taking my walks and so much more healthier than I used to. I can do things at age "51" that I wasn't able to do at "35" and I am proud of that. Also, all my friends at CC have kept me motivated and helped me enjoy this journey, I have said in the past and will continue to say... " I would never have been able to do this without them". They give me my most motivation and sharing stories in journaling helps me to keep on going when things look dim!

Can't really think of one particular song, but I do enjoy the dancing to music at my Zumba Classes. Once the music starts, there's no stopping me. It's Latin music, but once I get started I can't believe I am actually moving my hips like I am. A year ago I would of had to sit down cause I wouldn't have been able to breath after the first five minutes. It's a great workout and I am so happy that I have come this far. Once the music starts, it get's me so into the dancing, that I really don't concentrate on how hard it really is. Then at the end of the class ( much slower pace) she plays " Heartless" by Chris Allen, I love this part, I feel so flexible and can actually bend over and put my hands flat on the floor with knees straight. (Quite proud of that). It's times like these that I see just how far I've come and I'm dancing to celebrate.

Roar #1: I now enjoy eating in a restaurant. Before when i was at my highest weight I would go to a restaurant and order off the menu what would give me the most food for my money. If it came with lots of fries, all the better. If it was a huge piece of meat, perfect. I could gorge myself. I have come so far since then and when I think back of the things I used to order, I wanna puke. Now, I look at a menu and right off the bat I can pick the healthiest thing off the menu and amhappy with that. I enjoy eating out now, I don't hate myself when I get home anymore. I have enjoyed the outing and always trust myself to make the right decision.

Roar #2: Sounds crazy, but I find this really strange to me. I used to envy women who would sit with their legs crossed. Sounds simple enough. But I could never sit like that. I always had to keep my legs side by side and always felt like I was sitting so high in a chair. In the last six months (I have noticed it moreso) I can actually sit with my legs crossed. My stomach doesn't ache anymore and I can actually sit for long period of time with my legs crossed. That was a biggy for me. I don't feel like I am sitting on a pillow anymore either, the pillow is gone !!

Roar #3: I love the fact that I now know and have become educated about healthy foods and exercise and how it affects our body. I read so much about it as I really do find it interesting and it helps me to keep my urges in perspective. I like watching shows that inform me of nutrition and exercise and how it affects my body. I love the fact that I don't mind exercising and welcome a challenge.  I never used to. I was so lazy, now I am up for a walk anytime. I love this about myself, makes me feel so much younger and so much more knowledgeable when the conversation comes up.

After watching hubby eat all his ice cream sundae's, i had to find something so I didn't feel left out. I use any fruit, pineapple warmed up, strawberries, melons, grapes then add yogurt on top and sprinkle with a little Kashi go lean crunchies. It's awesome. It's even better when you warm up your fruit.

Another new one for me was humus. One of the girls from work brought it in and I tasted it, love it. Now I treat myself to a pita warmed up with a little humus on top. Love Roasted Garlic Humus best.

tphagins and vfh8404

I can hear myself through your comments. I sounded just like you time and time again, I was so frustrated, could it be menopause, could it be medication, could it be metabolism many times I didn't know what else to try or where to turn to. But....... I got a few messages from some good friends on CC and they just seem to pick me up and I stuck with it. I too have lots of down days and yes, it is a very slow journey, but it has to be in order for you to make life long changes. You wouldn't make the necessary changes in you lost all your weight in a month, I understand that now. It will happen, not overnight, but keep on truckin, it will happen. Trust me, it will  happen.

Today, you have made the best choice, you've chosen to stick it out. We're all here with you to do it together.

pOSTING THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE AS LILYGIRL1970 IS AWAY THIS WEEKEND. SORRY LITTLE LATE WITH THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE.

FIBER 101

There are two kinds of fiber. A healthy diet includes both

Insoluble fiber can’t be digested by your body. It fills your bowels and absorbs water. The more insoluble fiber you get, the more ‘regular’ you will be.  It helps with weight loss by absorbing fat so that it is eliminated rather than stored. This type of fiber is highest in whole grain breads and cereals, the skins of fruits and vegetables, peanuts, Brazil nuts, popcorn and brown rice.

Soluble fiber is dissolved in the digestive system and helps keep stools soft. It slows down the emptying of the stomach allowing better digestion and keeping you feeling full longer which helps with weight loss. It is proven to help lower ‘bad’ cholesterol.  It is highest in apples, pears, citrus fruits, strawberries, bananas, beans, peas, spinach, broccoli, potato, sweet potato, carrots, oats, barley, rye, sesame seeds, flax seeds and most dried fruit.

Most health institutes recommend 25 grams for women and 35 grams for men. More is good, but remember to increase your water over the recommended 8 glasses a day.

So, now that you know what fiber does and how much you need….Post a recipe for a healthy, high-fiber dish that you like.  Do not use processed or pre-packaged foods. Sorry, cereal doesn’t count! You have to work for this challenge!

You can post your recipe here or add it to your tagged recipes and post a link. Include the nutritional information if you know it!

My trigger...

I am doing everything all wrong... I go way too long without eating. I have not been eating enough on MOST days. And then I will spend one day EATING all day. I eat good food. I have cut out ALMOST all junk food. I will sometimes splurge and eat ice cream or some cookies but for the most part. It is vegi's fruit's... beans, corn tortillas.  I have not been eating breakfast... I drink coffee then go out walking. I know I have totally messed up my metabolism. Sooooo.... back to square one. First step is logging my food. I have not consistently done that in weeks... maybe a month!!! I should have done last weeks challenge. I know that is what I need to do to get my metabolism back into high gear!

I know Roxiegirl, I tried not to log for a week or so and I really got off track. I think logging is good. Maybe try and give it up on weekends. I'm gonna start that again. Weekends are to hard to log, to many social gatherings and outings.  Logging is like having to report to someone about what you ate all day or what you can eat.  Hope this is a better week for you.

MY trigger is two things......TOTM makes me eat continually, sweet things, but that's probably pretty normal for everyone. Need chocolate, things I wouldn't normally eat. Usually just the first day is the worst.

2nd Trigger:  TV. It's like they go hand in hand. TV and food. I just can't seem to watch a program without some kind of food to munch on while I'm sitting. For that reason I try not to watch to much tv or I save my popcorn for nightime when watching tv. It doesn't help that hubby is thin as a rake and eats at every commercial either. Sundae's, chips, you name it. So when he has his chips I have my popcorn, when he has his sundae's I have my fruit with yogurt poured on top of it. As long has I can stick to healthy foods, then I guess my eating at TV time isn't all that bad. I guess you could say bordem triggers my eating.

I don't know if this will help, but knitting works for me.  I knit and watch movies.  I can't knit and eat at the same time Smile  So it works well for me.  Is there something you could do with your hands that wasn't snacking?

Your absolutely right. I used to crochet alot and I love to do it, so I would go for hours and not put the crocheting down. I need to get back into that again. Maybe with winter coming I can do a nice new throw to go over my bed. Good thinkin !!!! What  would i do without you all.

Boosting my metabolism:

1)     I am trying to drink lots and lots of water. I don't do anything without bottled water in my hand at all times. I feel like a baby who walks around teh house with her bottle, that's me.

2)     I am cutting sugar out altogether, now this is a big one for me. I love my tea, but with a small bit of sugar in it. No more. The sugar's gone, it's a little bland, but I can do it.

3)     Sleep:  I usually try and get a good 9 hours a night. Especially this week been on holidays, so sleeping in is no problem. On a regular schedule, I get an 8 hour sleep consistently.

I was trying to take Green Tea Extract cause they said they boost your metabolism, but I stopped taking them, didn't noticed any weight loss or difference at all.

Thanks tealparadise, I appreciate your suggestions:

I have tried the green tea, didn't seem to make a difference. I even tried green tea extract pills, no change. As for exercise, yes my activity meter is set to sedentary and only log in exercises that aren't in my regular daily routine.

I might do the cutting sugar altogether suggestion, maybe process of elimination might be something I could try, never thought of that.

Thanks for your input.

Why this weight loss journey?

All my life I have envied thin people. I have always wanted to be thin and have always been the heaviest person in my family. I like to buy clothes and shop and hated that I got to the point where I had to shop in a larger ladies shop. I want to feel young, sexy and alive and loosing weight is making me feel that way. I feel like this is my very own project I started and am going to finish it. I am someone who is very focused on what I am doing and want nothing to stand in my way. I am trying to work very hard for this dream to finally come true!
