Birth control generally doesnt cause hair loss. It is most likely the damage done to your body. Your hair is the last thing to get repaired. I would stop switching on and off meds if you thinkit could be the culprit. There is no harm in staying on birth control so why did you get off of it?? good luck |

The only reason I dont think its TE is because you generally dont get bald spots from TE, its normal a diffuse shedding. I would def go back to your doctor because normally you should see a slight improvment after 8 months of eating healthy. Just remember your hair isnt everything and you cant stop living your life because of it. Best of luck! |

yeah I saw like 3 different doctors and they all said once the trigger (the weight loss was removed) it would be fine again. Yeah just wait around thats all you can do I would say it takes like 7 months. I swear it goes by really fast if you just dont think about it!!! Good luck |

I took biotin and for like 3 months my head was soooo itchy and then I realized it was the biotin. Ha also dont look up things on the interenet which Im guilty of bc its all negative no one is going to come back and write about their hair loss stopping bc they will be done thinking about it. Try and focus on other things for the next few months and get some nice headbands and wear your hair up. Trust me I know this is hard as I was runner up for best hair in my senior year book. Hair isnt everything and we may think it is but there are alot more important things in life!!! |

I know where your coming from on this because my hair has been falling out since the end of July. It fell out like crazy I couldnt even wear it down till like November. I hated showering and brushing it bc so much fell out. I didnt brush it for like two months I would wear it curly bc I was scared. Now it is almost April and I can def wear it down and then there are times where Im like Oh its better now and then it shed more on one day and I get worried. Like today is annoyign me haa. Mine never came out in clumps or anything just alot of shedding. I dont loose much in the shower but with blowdrying and straightening I loose alot. Remeber you do loose 100 a day. The best advice I can give is that it took time for you to loose weight and put your body in this state. So its gona take a while to get your hair back bc thats the last thing your body cares about. I wana tell you itll get better quick like 3 months. But that was def not the case with me it took over 6 and im still recovering. I am way past my goal weight too. Hang in there eat lots of nuts and healthy fats because that helps hair. I used to have super thick hair and now I guess its average. I do have alot of regrowth soooo I guess I better listen to the advice im giving you and be patient haha. Hope this helps a little if you wana talk message me! |

Hey, I Know exactly where your coming from because I posed about 3 times about this and I was freaking out and I know people must have been annoyed with my posts. Anyways I am the same I wouldnt say is was "anorexic" and that term scares me. I guess i was def restrictive but I was eating at least 1200 to 1800 calories while being restrictive. I was working out as well. I dropped very low because I was exercising too much. Anyways the hair started falling out in July and i hate to tell you this but it hasnt fully stopped. It is def alot better alot, but i would say it takes a good 6 months to make peace with it. My hair loss may be normal now as I had thick hair but I have lost id say half of it. Luckily I know look like every other persons hair because I had so much. Eat lots of almonds and take fish oil. I wasnt eating enough fats which cause your body to shift its energy to keep the rest of your body and not focus on your hair. I have spent countless hours crying and crying about it and even saw counsilers. Please try and make peace with it and know that it will only get better if you get to a healthy weight and diet. It took a while for you to loose the weight so it will take a while for the hair to come back. I do have alot of baby hairs. I wish someone would have told me this when I was going through this so I hope this helps. Message me if you have any questions!!! |

Thanks for the reply everyone! When I got my first blood test they said everything was fine but then I asked about the ferratin and it was low. I was very focused on getting my hair back to normal and it said it needed to be at 70 so they said I could take iron. I got another test 3 months later and it was at 68 so it rose quickly. My diet is alot better now so maybe I will cut down to one iron pill and then stop completely. I have also been to a nutritionist. I think it was just a lack of many vitamins iron being one when I was malnutritioned so hopefully all goes back to normal. |

The weird thing is it never stopped it itched for like 4 monthes. I stopped taking my vitamin and the itching stopped alot. It still itches slighly but it isnt red anymore so I think it must have something to do with it. Thanks for the reply very informative! |

okay thanks I think I am allergic to niacin, I wonder if I can get tested. It is said to cause an itch rash and crawling feeling under the skin which I definately expereinced. This could be the cause of my itchy scalp which I have seen so many doctors and spent so much money of medicine for weird it is something as simple as that |

| Health & Support | how I got my period back... | Dec 02 2008 23:56 (UTC) |

I have a question say I was very underweight at 119 at 5 10 and now im 133 at 5 10 which is very close to my highest weight. I stopped getting my period for 4 months and I thought it was bc I had stopped bc. Then I had to go back on it ...well the doctors thought it was a good idea. IF i have had it back for almost 5 months on bc does that mean Im at a healthy weight. If i was at a low weight would i still get it bc im on bc? let me know |

you have to find the strength by constantly reminding yourself all the things that are happening to your body because of your bad eating habbits. you have lost your period and are loosing hair obviously that should make you want to gain weight. I had the same thing and I think that my hair falling out made me realize something was wrong. I had pushed everyone away telling myself I was fine I ignored my mom telling me to eat higher cal foods I ignored my freinds telling me how skinny I was. I went on bc to get my period back and I have gained 12 pounds back. I knew I didnt look good when I was the skinny and I would always wear bigger clothes and I didnt care what I looked like. I do look better now alot better and I am almost to the weight I used to be at which was still slim for being almost 5 11 and 138 at the time now im 133. I dropped all the way down to 119 and you have to get up to a healthy bmi to get your period. You probably wont even notice the weight gain. My mom still yells at my for buying lo cal foods but you have to push yourself to eat higher cal things or else you will jsut continure to hurt yourself. Set up an apt with a nutrionist and find out a meal plan that works for you. Thats what I did and I am so much happier at this new weight. I had a shock the other day when I realized I still wanst getting enough cals bc i was eating low cal stuff still such as sugar free things. Just push yourself 5 pounds will not look any diff. Good luck!!! |

I have been to three different dermatologists and they havent given me a single thing that has helped. They barely look at my scalp the they give me a random cream that doesnt help. They also completely ignore my hair loss. NO one can help me and its been going on for four months it is beyond frusturating! |

okay so i get that my hair reflects what I was doing before but could it be the same for my scalp ...can malnourishment cause irritated scalp. I would say I was malnourished maybe 4 monthes and then fixed it. I was 119 and now im 133 pounds and i was 138 so i know i have to wait. Maybe the scalp will stop itching when the hair loss stops at least i hope |

I guess I probably should have updated you I have gotten 3 blood tests the first one said I tested pos for an autoimmune disease. I went to specialty doctors and it was neg. Everything was find in my blood work but my serum ferritin was on the low end at 31. I have read that 70 is normal for hair growth and other things. I jsut got it done last week and it is a 67 so that was positive. I have gotten my period three times is that a good sign. The only thing is i got in going on bc but I did gain 10 pounds to get it. It will almost be month 4 this week. I know I Still need to gain but I feel like it was such a waste to loose it but that is comp recic if it will help my health. (but will it) Before I went on bc last year i was just under 135 with no health problems and I ate like a pig! Then a year later I was 140. Then i got off it in feb when i started to eat "healthy" or so i thought except i was still eating 2000 calories a day but exercising two times a day for volleyball and thats why the nutrionist said I was having problems. I wasnt called anoreic just my body was in an anorexic state. Do you think its really necessary to get 145? if i have never weighed that much. And should I stay on b.c and ciould going off it potentially cause worse hair loss. I am also not bruising anymore and my nails are growing really long and strong the only thing left is my hair. I was asking if my previous sympton were normal of malnutrition. WhAT else happens to the inside of your body. the fats i eat everyday are icecream or a cookie at dinner. snack protein bar with decent amount of fat. Lots of nuts. mini oats cinnamon streusal at lunch. IS that enough fat. im not counting dinner and lunch bc its diff everyday. am i doing enough or do i still need to do more??my main question is ..am i only getting my period bc of the bc or am i actually healthy again? |

| Health & Support | Getting My Period Back? :( | Nov 12 2008 03:05 (UTC) |

I stopped getting my period for id say about 4 months I had stopped taking bc around february also the time of when I started eating healthy. When i wasnt getting my period we thought it was normal bc sometimes that happens when you stop birthcontrol. Then I went to the doctor and he said it was bc i was too thin. I actually didnt get my period till i was a sophmore bc i was too thin naturally. Then i stopped getting it senior year bc of weight loss and malnutrition. When the doctor told me he was concerned i gained 10 pounds eating everything in sight. Then i went back and bc and went to college and that month i got my period. Would I have gotten it either way going on the b.c or does that mean my body is healthy enough to get it now? Also girls on my volleyball team werent getting their periods too so i thought i was okay but i def wasnt. Go to the dr and get checked out bc everyone is diff and may not be getting their periods for many diff reasons. |
