Haha i know the statistics say thats 5ft 6 and 135 is a perfect weight, but as i work for a performing arts company, body shape and size is hugeeeee issue. i like the other girls here i think, would like to loose cm of inches in certain areas rather than loose weight. toning by going to the gym would infact possible induce a weight gain yet produce an overall impression of being "smaller" That is my aim. It's not necessarily the number but the appearance. The number is really not a constructive measure for everyone because what looks healthy on one person can look atrocious on another!!! |

ooo i just had another idea eleanor_morris - maybe your body has become used to the amount of calories and exercise you are doing, so its gotten itself in a routine where it can work at its optimum using what your putting in, hence not using any of the body's stored fat.... so maybe trying a healthy eating plan where you vary the calories up a bit, for example one day eating 1400 and the next eating 1600 and then the next 1200 etc.. and changing what exercise your doing every second time or something?? :) xx |

hi eleanor_morris :) of course you can join us. My best guess with your weight is that your struggling to loose weight because your in the right zone for your body - i mean you weigh the same as us but are 2 inches taller so maybe your body is unwilling to loose any actual weight? and i totally agree - maybe toning muscles would give the appearance of having lost weight if your body won't let you loose it?
hahaha its so much easier just to sit on the couch and have fun isn't it? I do lots of dancing, jazz ballet hiphop tap contemporary. and i work for a performing arts company so its a pretty active lifestyle. If you think your dedicated enough to do that dance video at least every second day by yourself at home go for it, but i know personally i would never do it - thats why i spent that extra bit of money and joined a gym, especially since its a ladies only gym and they really monitor you there, like they check how many times you've gone in a week and stuff if you want them to. Is there maybe a local sports team your can join? or like, can you ski or surf or something? (i don't know if its even winter where you are, but i spent the weekend skiing and gosh, that was a workout if i've ever seen one!!) xx |

eeek this is to jackattack still, couldn't work out how i got all that othre writing on my other one - where does it say she's asking how to continue eating only 300 calories? i thought she was asking for a way to stop her nightly binge, hence the obvious suggestion was to eat a few more calories during the day, by eating a more varied amount of food?
Also, if she does have an eating disorder do you think you could be a little more considerate? your blunt comments certainly wouldn't do anything to help her, or "snap" her out of this mindset, - maybe your comments are unneccessary? |

At least your doing some form of exercise, walking at least gets your heart rate up a little and you could totally be sitting on the couch for hours on end instead :) Do you not have time to exercise or just don't want to? I wish i could control my weight without exercise, but it just doesn't seem to be happening! Thanks for the support :) |

okay okay chill, this not a necessary discussion if all you're here to do is tell me i'm wrong. However i'm a little confused to how you can say all this, when it is well advertised for people to wear support bandages and ankle braces etc when running - isn't it all to help support the foot when our structures can't take the forces we're exerting through them!? I will not go "running" in barefeet in a million years because i'm being taught that it can cause problems. And i know you've produced a newspaper article to try and convince me otherwise, but i personally would prefer to believe the educated physiotherapists that are teaching my course! Just to prove my point, Here is a medical journal article, which clearly explains that running shoes are created to aid the natural shapes of people's feet, as they support the foot in ways that our ligaments can't. Butler, Robert J. Hamill, Joseph. Davis, Irene. 2007 "Effect of footwear on high and low arched runners' mechanics during a prolonged run." Gait & Posture. 26(2):219-25, http://ovidsp.tx.ovid.com.ezproxy.lib.monash. edu.au/spa/ovidweb.cgi
*Sorry to the lovely person who made this discussion that we've hijacked, i hope the original information is somewhat helpful :) :) :) |

When i'm thin: i won't die of embarrasment every time i have to take off my clothes for uni surrounded by the best looking group of people i've ever seen.
(i'm a physiotherapy student, and we're required to practise techniques on other members of our class. it just so happens my closest friends in that class are blue eyed, blonde haired, 5'7 beautiful skinny girls.) |

Hey, no one's calling you immature, i'm sure all of us can totally imagine how you feel. Not only is the rest of the world constantly judging you, but your mother is also putting pressure on when she should be one of the most reliable people you can always turn to! My best suggestion is find a friend. sure. thats not easy either. but i figure it'll help you. and i also would have said a whole lot more than "bitch" to my mother!
I've got quite the opposite problem. My mother is classified as "obese" and she constantly tells me that i'm skinny enough. It's always "Eat something more than lettuce you stupid self obsessed girl" or "Your lying, i know you didn't stop at Mc Donald's on the way home" or "Don't try and fool me, your eating this piece of cake because we don't want you to relapse"
I supose there's just really no way to win is there? |

Wow. 1900. thats almost insane. I struggle to eat 1200 to be honest, and most days i don't quite make it. i know thats totally bad, and possibly the reason i'm struggling to loose this weight. But i'm dancing 4 days a week, and working for a performing arts company and there is no way these other girls i'm working with are eating 1900 calories!!! but i'm the same as you - easily 1900 if i'm bingeing, tee hee 1 tim tam = 200 calories :O :O :O gosh, it's easy to build up if i'm eating junk, but alot of the time i just can't bring myself to eat that kind of junk, which i supose is good? My theory is that exercise is going to help me loose this weight, although, its rather unsuccessful at the moment, even though i'm going to the gym 6 times a week i'm not actually loosing weight. Its quite unfortunate - i thought i was loosing weight and that i was getting skinnier, but then they weighed me and i weighed exactly the same. talk about smashing down the self confidence there! do you go to a gym or anything!? |

Really?! Because we did a case study on it a few weeks ago, and a particular issue was that the man was running in dunlop volleys - not suitable shoes for running any sort of distance! And having bad running shoes stops the forces exerted by the body when in motion being spread evenly through the feet and often results in the arches of a person's foot altering - hence playing a part in plantar fasciitis.
I'm nearly 100% sure that wearing runners ( i'm wearing $15 runners at the moment, but they're at least a little supported ) is beneficial for the body's biomechanics! |

I'm doing it too! Although i've only started a month ago and i'm quite confused with the results its giving me. I'm watching what i'm eating, but i felt like my clothes were getting tighter. And when i had my second weigh and measure, i hadn't gained or lost any weight, but my body fat percentage had gone up from 20 - 21.5%
This didn't make sense however, because curves smart focuses on building muscle right? So currently, i'm totally confused with weather its worthwhile for a weight loss perspective however i can say i feel so much more incredible after doing it - especially since it allows you to track exactly how many calories you burn by putting your little tag into a computer which contains all your details! |

Hiii, i'm a physiotherapy student, so i'm learning about this at the moment! From what it sounds like, your ligaments that surround you hip joint ( ililofemoral, ischiofemoral and pubofemoral ligament - in particular pubofemoral ligament) are trapping small pockets of air which make the popping sound. This is most likely due to a ligament sprain (pretty much like what your ankle can get) and hence can be very painful. the pain can also be produced when the ligament is taught - when you raise your leg to the front your putting that ligament under pressure to stretch - hence the pain. I'd advice maybe taking a week or two off of running, i know this isn't such a great suggestion since you've only recently started, but resting the ligament will be the only way to allow it to heal. There are no specific exercises or anything you can do to fix ligament sprains, especially those of the hip, although strengthening the muscles around the hip joint such as iliospoas ( connects torso to leg on the front) and all your gluteal muscles would certainly not hurt.
Hope that helps a little bit. |

Original Post by fooledbyfaith: Jackattack07: Please keep your opinions to yourself. An eating disorder is not defined by the fact a person can take in only 300 calories a day - it is defined by the mental state a person suffers from in conjunction with their eating habits. The eating habits are only the symptoms of the issue. Do you think a person with an eating disorder would really be on this internet site asking for advice from people? No. I don't think so. |

ah and i forgot to mention - the part of your thighs that appears to stick out is called the "greater trochanter" and its simply part of your femur so it generally won't go away! and it sticks out more in girls because our hips make our femurs (thigh bone) sit at a different angle to those in boys. HENCE. we need to learn to love these body shapes! |

Hey guys. I hate to say it, but i've just learnt about this for my uni course, and the reason we all have this issue is because of our bone shape. People's bone shapes are all slightly different, just like our heights are different, and hence some people's hips are more prominent than others. Reducing weight will infact reduce the "love handle" type of look, but ultimately, we are all blessed with a nice curvy frame that can certainly look extremely hot (especially minus the love handles concept!) I agree though. buying clothes to fit sucks. |

uh i've got the same kind of problem. working out 6 days a week for a month. and i've been totally watching what i'm eating, yet my weight's pretty much stayed the same. you'd think i'd even gain weight because of weights training and muscle development, but no. just absolutely nothing. i'm so confused! |

Original Post by 32123: waaaaaah i'm pretty sure the human body finds it easier to turn carbs into energy over fats. actually i'm 100% sure. Hence, people are more likely to burn off their carbs (figuratively speaking, be reasonable here!) first, as that is what the body finds easiest to tranform into energy. Its where the energy comes from - i can't remember the exact information but its somewhere along the lines of - 1 g of carbs is transformed to 4 kJ of energy, and 1 g of fat is transformed to 9 kJ of energy. Hence if we burn 200 kJ, we will have burnt 50 g of carbs, OR 22.2 g of fat.
So i win. Thats that. |

i'd just like to say i'm supremely jealous of all of your who have such great sense of what your body needs to survive and not gain weight. i've screwed mine over, and now i can't just eat normally because my body does not allow me to register when i've had enough. will there ever be a stage at which i can just stop thinking about maintaining weight?! congrats to all of you :) |

Oh man, being an aussie sucks for christmas etc - christmas and new years is smack bang in the middle of summer - and smack bang in the middle of bikini season! Stressy hey. Althought we are lucky we don't celebrate thanksgiving too. What do you say to your grandparents when they've cooked all this food and are trying to make you eat it? i feel ever so guilty not eating what they'd like, because i know the crazed amount of effort my nanna goes to cooking, but i like my skinny body better! xxx |

Original Post by 32123: It is easier to burn off carbs than it is pure fat. You clearly have not thought reasonably before opening your ridiculous mouth, nor done any sort of research to back up your outrageous claims. so in the words of Thumper from the kids movie Bambi : "if you ain't got nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all"

Hi all :) Definately my favourite part of weight loss, was last night. I recieved my dance costumes for this years end of year performance, and instead of putting them on and dreading what it looked like, i slipped it on and was amazed that every thing fit perfectly or just a little too big. I can't say how much that was a relief, as when i was measured for them i was at my skinniest, (because of starving myself) and since then had put on 13 pounds and have now lost 6 of those pounds and everything fits great! xxx |

hiiiiiiiiii! I'm a 17 year old girl. And obviously that makes me a daughter. My relationship with my mum is fantastic majority of the time. Being girls, of course we'd have our times where we just clash, but especially in the last year, we've grown so close. I think in reality, Majority of children adore their parents, but especially in their teenage years, the want for attention from friends "My mum doesn't care what i do" ( i'm soooooooo coool) attitude as well as the want to be indepedant and mature when your simply not forces kids into a sort of mind field about their parents. In time, majority of people will remember and love their parents for everything they sacrificed for you. Unless of course, your a drug addict, alcoholic, or abusive....
Which i'm sure you not :) |
