Yes, this is true.  I have a medium frame.

I don't mean to sound elusive.  Well....actually I do.

I fit into the category you are discussing, and I don't recommend it.

In my profile picture, which is a few years old, I weighed about 130lbs, so I don't look like that picture anymore, and I'm not going to post a current picture because I am too thin.

Believe me when I say it's not something you should strive for.

Most of the time, as we age, our clothes do fit differently.  Even though our weight may be basically the same, it tends to shift it's location.  Also, after multiple washings, things shrink over time.

While I do think it is wise to watch the scales and how healthy you are eating, I KNOW it is not wise to push yourself to an unhealthy weight just so you can fit into something that most people can't fit into anyway.

I know you were looking for specifics, and even though I've done it eating healthy foods and exercising, I have come to realize just how consuming something like this can be.  I am NOT in a happy place.

I would feel horrible if I led you down the wrong path.

Least paid employee is uneducated, unskilled, un-everything. They just need to move widget A to slot B..... they dont make value, they dont manage anything, they just mindlessly DO. We would get monkeys to do it if we could (though, we found out its better to get robots to do it for larger scale).

So....1200 times sounds about right heh.

I can guarantee you if these employees don't do a good job of moving widget A to slot B they will be fired.

If a CEO (who is supposedly so valuable) drives a company into the ground, he needs to be fired too.  Plain and simple!

He obviously was not doing his job.

Weight Loss Calling All Apples Feb 04 2009

Hi peachysam.  I'm the dreaded apple too :(

I'm 47, 5'4" with a medium frame and currently at 115 lbs.  I recently lost ten pounds and it pretty much took care of my fat rolls around the middle....until I sit or even lean slightly forward.

For me, it took perseverence, concentration and pretty much not thinking about anything else but that.

There are many people on here who are my height and weight and seem to be perfectly happy eating 1400 calories a day and exercising like crazy.  I am not one of them.  I don't know if it's my age or what, but to me it seems too much like deprivation.  It's also time and brain space consuming.

I'm still not happy with my body, so for me to keep up at this pace seems cruel.  I instinctively know that the pear or the hourglass shape are more desirable and are considered healthier, but I don't think I would be so obsessed with my apple shape if it weren't so prevalent in the media that I should look otherwise.

Anyway, with that said, you ARE at a healthy weight and I don't recommend that you try to get skinnier.  You may enjoy lifting weights to round out your thighs, arms and shoulders which can help your shape a little.  And when done properly it's really good for you.

Hopefully some other apples will chime in here.  I always feel like the minority but I know there are others here.

Health & Support How do You go from self loathing to self loving? Jan 31 2009

Wow, I just read your bio.  You are so full of life and love.  Your family and pets are SO lucky to have you!

I'm sorry I don't have the answer for you.  I have to admit I'm rather perplexed as to why you would feel this way about yourself.  You've accomplished way more in your life than I have (I'm 47) and you have a really big family and what sounds like a perfect husband (if there is such a thing Wink )

Anyway, somewhere along the line you decided that everyone else deserved your love and attention, but not you.  I realize you already know this, but can you pinpoint why?  I mean, do you just think that deep down inside you are inherently bad?  Or is it purely physical;you hate your body?

As far as your weight and health go, you know a lot of your problems are related, and if you could get just one thing resolved or under control it would more than likely resolve something else.  Out of curiosity, have you been checked for a tumor (cist?) on your pituitary gland? It sounds like such a long shot, but what if that were the problem all along?

I agree with catria, this is not your fault.  Something has gone awry here and you've been left to deal with it.  I am amazed at the life you have built while having to go through all this.

If anything, you deserve to be put up on a pedestal.

Health & Support TO: any MEDICS/DOCTORS, about irregular heart beats... Jan 30 2009

Yes, you should see a doctor.  It only takes a minute to do an EKG right there in their office.

If they don't pick up the irregular beat during that minute, tell the doctor you want to wear a 24 hour monitor.  More than likely it will show up on that one.

THEN, the doctor can tell you just what kind of irregular beat you are experiencing and advise you of the next step.  There are so many different types of irregular heart beats, I was amazed.  I had no idea.

Do this one simple test.  It's so quick and easy.  There's just no excuse to not do it.

I wish you the best :)

Motivation Frustrations because I am a jerk.... Jan 28 2009

Well, if you're a jerk, then I must be one too.

My problem is that losing (or gaining) 5 more pounds isn't going to make any difference for me.  Neither is losing or gaining 50 pounds.

I'm just not shaped like a "real woman" since "real' women have curves.

I get really sick of hearing that, because there's nothing I can do about it.  I will NEVER have curves.  If I'm thin, I look like a ruler.  If I'm even close to the middle of my healthy weight I have fat rolls around my waist.  I look like a can of biscuits busted open.

I always feel like my character is being judged.  I mean, if I'm thin (trying to FIND some kind of curve under there) I get accused of wanting to be a stick figure like the women in Hollywood.  If I gain to a more normal weight I get teased for having fat rolls (even though my legs are skinny) and told that if I would work out more I would have more curves.

I work out six days a week.  I CANNOT change my shape.

Anyway, I didn't mean to get off on my own rant there.

You are NOT a jerk.  But doesn't it feel good to get something like that out of your system?

I get the same thing. My thighs are so sore the next day too. I think it's suppose to. Several years ago I had weak inner knees that required physical therapy and lunges was one of the exercises I was given.  And here http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/com mon/standard/transform.jsp?requestURI=/health atoz/Atoz/hl/fit/demo/lunges.jsp it says that it's a thigh exercise (among other things) so I think it's ok and we are doing them right.

That's good to know.  This seems to happen to me alot, where I feel the pain/strain in some other area than what most people feel.

It could be PVCs (premature ventricular contractions.)  I've had them for almost 15 years.  I've been on and off heart meds for it.  I'm currently off.

In my particular case they aren't a danger, only nerve-racking.  But they can be a sign of something more serious.

My advice is to get it checked out by a doctor.

I bet it's really nothing, but this isn't something you want to guess at.

Take care.

I HATE lunges!  But in reading all these posts, I've decided my body must be really weird because I don't feel it in my glutes.  I feel it on the tops of my thighs (quads?).  Especially my right one.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hmmmm....sounds like the dreaded "salt incident" melkor talked about earlier this week.

And YES, there are times when I'd like to drop kick the scale right out the bathroom window into the backyard.

Fitness self esteem Jan 18 2009

Wow, I could have been the one writing this post.  I have exactly the same problem.

I don't have curvy hips, and that's why I have the muffin top when I put on pants.

I watch What Not to Wear all the time, hoping to get some ideas for my body shape, but it seems most of the participants are pears or hour glasses.  Or at least they have big boobs.  If I had big boobs it would detract from my thick middle.

Anyway, I feel for you.  It's a shame we lose our self esteem over something so stupid, but we do.  We see too much on tv and in magazines.  I mean, look at how they literally pick apart each woman on the red carpet at awards shows.  It's no wonder we do the same to ourselves.  If we don't see a flaw in ourselves, we certainly will after watching one of those shows.Frown

I like luthien_j's idea.  It's something I'm going to look into soon.

Wow!  I had no idea I could gain that kind of muscle!  For some reason I thought gaining even one pound a year was an accomplishment.  (Not sure where I read that.)

Thanks alot guys!  This is definitely the way to go for me Smile

Meh, a far easier way to have a more favourable waist-to-hip ratio and a better BMI would be to build up some muscle on those hips.

Add in some capped shoulders, put on a litte muscle in the upper lats, leave the waistline alone - no more apple shape.

I just bought New Rules of Lifting for Women and I'm working on getting my weights together.

But I was really disappointed to read that I can't bulk up.  I was counting on that to help me reshape my body.  So you think I can still do that?

Maybe this is too obvious, but have you considered that you may well be the ONLY ONE who cares one little iota about this, and you obsess about it for reasons that have nothing to do with your shape?

You're probably right about that Embarassed

I guess I've just got it in my head that if there are rolls of fat around my middle then I must be unhealthy.  But I DO work out six days a week Innocent

Weight Loss Fat at 113, really? Jan 13 2009

I've never been considered overweight, but I feel fat because of WHERE the fat is.  If I could be evenly proportioned I would be very happy at 125 to 130 lbs.  My problem is at 125 I had skinny legs, skinny arms, no butt and four big fat rolls around my middle. (Picture a can of biscuits busted open.)

It's very uncomfortable.

I always wanted to be one of those voluptuous, curvy women with full breasts, a round butt and nice full thighs.

Height: 5'4"

SW: 127

CW: 115

GW: ???

I don't LIKE being 115 lbs because I feel deprived all the time, but I don't know what else to do about my fat rolls Frown

Thanks opusanna.  I've just started working on some of those exercises and have found that I really suck at lunges :(  I suppose this is the area I need to focus on the the most.

I'm going to move ahead and try this anyway even if it doesn't make my lower body curvier because it seems I really need to build up my strength.

Thanks again!
