i am the same way. i'm also a fan of the no sugar added fudgsicle... weight watchers has a variety of ice cream bars that are 90-100 cals. eating right brand at safeway (if you have them) has 100 cal ice cream cups. frozen blueberries, 100 cal hostess snacks, SF popsicles only have 15 or 20 cals, SF pudding snacks 60-70 cals. tons of options, hope one works for you! i like to keep a variety because it's something i really look forward to, which means i make sure to keep room for it in my calorie intake for the day! |

i agree with gi-jane on everything... i have the same problem and having a scale really, really helps... and it really doesn't take that much time. i just put the meat or cheese or whatever it is in a little tupperware (usually weighs one oz, then subtract that from the total). there is a tool somewhere on the internet and i can't stinkin find it right now, but it shows you in real-size how big of portions for different kinds of food are using your hand. also, with eating out, i think it's generally safe to just eat half of the meal... unless of course you are at a place that specifically has low-cal meals and all the info is listed. also stay away from drinks of course, and the bread, chips, etc that come before the meal. |

that happens to me usually if i don't get enough of something throughout the day- for example if one of my meals was too few of cals, or if i waited too long to eat lunch, etc. also if i don't get enough protein that can effect it. another option in addition to those already mentioned would be to factor in 100 cals or so for an after dinner snack. that way you can have a 100-cal pack of popcorn or a sf pudding (you get the idea) and not have to get down on yourself for it! |

well you gain weight throughout the day because you are eating, drinking, etc!! you might try just weighing in the morning and then putting it away, or even consider only weighing once-twice a week. some people have a "weigh-in day" and that gives them something to look forward to. i like fridays (vs a mon or tues) because i normally do really well during the week and then sometimes have a free meal or two on the weekday. |

For me it has taken a VERY long time of experimenting to figure out exactly what my body needs and wants in order to not feel like i'm starving all the time. it really is a process of trial and error, while being careful to stay within your caloric limitations and getting all the proper nutrients of course :) so in case you want another person's "plan"... this is what a normal weekday looks like for me (weekends are usually a little less structured): 2 cups of coffee in the morning with 2 tbsp REAL half and half in each and splenda (i have found the 80 cals to be so worth it to me!!!). 6:30 fiber one bar, string cheese, oatmeal or banana, 9:30 another off the same list, lunch 11:00ish ff yogurt, a sandwich or carefully measured leftovers and a fruit or veggies if i'm still hungry (approx 400-500 cals total), 3:30-4 an apple, orange, veggies or another 40-80 cal snack, and then 500-600 cals for dinner. if i have room i often have a low cal dessert, like one of the many weight watchers offers or a sugar free pudding. i have discovered that, although according to the site i should eat 1500 per day, i normally get between 1600-1700 to feel satisfied. as long as i exercise, this has been working for me. hope that helps!! it's really about what will work for you long-term and in a healthy way. |

| Weight Loss | Just a rant!!!!! | Apr 14 2009 22:31 (UTC) |

ok thank you tattooed kitty, i'm glad someone else responded to that comment also!!!! i have personally weighed over 200 lbs since high school... i am a little over 5'8 and have a larger build so i don't look super fat, but it is NOT easy just because a person weighs over 200 lbs. i have been here counting calories for 3 years and i have lost, gained, lost, gained, and am currently working on that last 10 to get under 200. and not by "just having a little self control". it is full-on, constant, counting everything, weighing everything i put in my meals... walking, running, ellipticalizing, workout dvd-ing... and it is HARD. and not once have i lost 6 pounds in one week. that is ridiculous. and it's unhealthy (unless you are under constant supervision like the biggest loser or something). AND it's very unlikely that you will keep the weight off. that's all :) |

| Weight Loss | Anyone on here have a personal trainer? | Mar 12 2009 17:39 (UTC) |

i do not currently have a personal trainer but sort of did in the past. i was able to get one free session per month through my gym, and even only once a month was VERY helpful for me. he switched up my routines for me and updated mins, weights, etc based on my process. i think the price varies by gym, but i think it is definitely worth looking into. |

| Weight Loss | Someone please help...How many calories should I be eating? | Mar 12 2009 17:36 (UTC) |

yes i think 1200 is too little as well, unless you are doing absolutely nothing active. also, based on what you are doing, i think it is VERY possible that you are gaining muscle, which could be the reason for the lack of lbs lost. is it possible to try measuring yourself once a week to see if you are losing inches? you are exercising a LOT and 1700 seems like a good amount to me. |

first of all, CONGRATS on all that loss!! that's awesome! i apologize in advance- this might not help too much... BUT i really think you need to play around a bit to see what works for you. the tools here help a lot to see how much you generally burn on a given day. but everyone else has been right when they say you can't have too large of a deficit or you won't lose as fast (which i know doesn't make ANY sense. our bodies are so weird!!!). so if, besides your planned exercise, you have a pretty sedentary lifestyle (sit at desk, not a ton of movement, etc) set it to that, and log your exercise. that doesn't mean you have to eat ALL the calories back that you burn exercising, but that's where i think you should play around. maybe having an extra post-workout snack those days or something. i think in general your idea for a 1600 intake with "lightly active" lifestyle sounds good. but then don't log your exercise, and keep this in mind on days you don't work out- maybe eat a little less on those days, 1300 ish. i have been here for a LONG time (2+ years) and am still figuring things out myself. feel free to add me as a friend if you would like some support along the way! i know i need as much as i can get! :) |

definitely not alone... i have been on them for years too and i have the same problem... i just have to make sure to count everything i eat. i usually allow myself 1-200 extra cals on the really hard days, but i make sure it's not junk. |

NOOO don't give up!! this happens to a lot of us, especially on the weekend. i wouldn't log it probably, but that's up to each individual personal preference. start fresh, log today, and focus on what you can control (which is from this point forward). and like others have said, you might be surprised at how little damage you did! i also agree to try not to think of it as a diet. there will always be weekends, parties, bars, etc... the whole point is to figure out how to live life while still being healthy!!! even if that means a treat here and there! |

put all your info into the tools on this website and it will tell you how much you should eat. and like the others said, try to do some purposeful exercise every day that gets your heartbeat up. walking is good but if it is just to and from class, etc, it probably isn't getting you at your target heart rate for burning calories. |

i think it is also possible that you are in starvation mode... are you pretty active throughout the day? how often/how much do you exercise?? 1200 cals is the absolute lowest you should go, but that doesn't mean it is enough for everybody. and 900 is definitely not enough. i would also say talk to your doctor and maybe see a nutritionist. i would say you need to up your intake at least a little bit. |

| Weight Loss | help :S | Dec 15 2008 20:46 (UTC) |

according to the height and weight you gave, your BMI is 23.4, which is within the healthy range for an adult. at the weight of 112, your BMI would be 17, which is considered to be underweight. i would say the lowest you would want to hit is 120-125, but i am definitely not a doctor. it really depends on your build also... and like i said before, it's not "healthy" for a 15-year-old to be dieting. you should focus on eating healthy, balanced meals and make sure you are getting enough exercise. |

don't give up!!! i have been down this road before (more than once!!) and trust me, giving up is not the answer! all it will do is make you even more unhappy. stick with it- at least the number is still going down. that in itself is a success |

I'm pretty sure 112 is too light if you are 5'8... also, especially at your age, you should be focusing more on being healthy in general than going on a diet. |

your ex is a freaking SCUMBAG!!!!!! like the others, i would agree that you should go out and do some things on your own. i know it feels like you can't right now and you really don't want to, but you have to make yourself. CC has also helped me through some VERY difficult times. there are some amazing people here with tons of great advice. i have been here for almost 3 years!! you can get through this and you WILL get through this. you are already doing things to help yourself, like joining a gym. i added you as a friend- feel free to add me back!! i encourage you to utilize the journal and the food & exercise log. i write in my journal almost every day and it really helps!! HUGS!!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!! we are here for you |

| Motivation | Does this cause you to fall off the workout band wagon? | Oct 10 2008 21:49 (UTC) |

YES, that show is amazing!!!! i also have a very curvy body. i AM overweight, however i know i will be bigger even at my goal weight. I strongly believe this is why i have yet to achieve my goal weight. but i am trying very hard to accept that my body is and will be even more beautiful once i uncover it from the chub!! as far as working out, i would recommend just doing whatever you can- forget having a workout buddy because you can never count on another person as much as yourself. set a schedule and write it in as if it were an important appointment so you CAN NOT change or miss it. make it your #1 priority. if you want to go out, fine, go out!! but exercise for 30-40 minutes before hand!! if you feel it is taking time from a SO or another important person, talk to them and let them know this is important to you and you are making it a prioritym and then ask for their support. then it is all up to you!! |

Muscles get sore when lactic acid builds up in them. Lactic acid buildup and water retention are two different things though... Muscle does weigh more than fat, so it is possible for your weight to go up as you are gaining muscle, and then start to fall once the fat is burned. here are a few articles that might help http://www.myfit.ca/archives/viewanarticle.as p?table=fitness&ID=31&subject=Fat+Bur ning http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/16/health/nutr ition/16run.html |

| Hi Tina~
You are in a very tough situation now but I know you can pull through!! One of the most helpful things for me is using my journal on here and letting my friends post comments- whether i'm having a good day or a bad day, whether i ate 1500 cals. or 3500 cals- i just let it all out. It helps SO much just to have the support that i have on here. I will add you to my friends and feel free to keep ranting away! like it has already been said, we all need to once in a while. life is hard. |

| i teach at high school, and YES, it is bad!! Luckily the students here have options, but quite frankly a lot of them aren't mature enough to make good choices (i know i wasn't in HS)...
They serve donuts every morning along with other pastries, high-fat breakfast entrees like egg mcmuffins and whatnot, but they also have fresh fruit and milk. so you get to choose... but yeah, not good! |
