| The Lounge | I'm so upset with myself right now | Mar 13 2009 14:03 (UTC) |

ah, the girl scout cookie syndrome.... I had bought 4 boxes from this adorable little girl with the total intention of giving two to my dad and one for my fiance and the other to share... I am sure you can see where this is going lol... Well, I ate half a box of the caramel delights before my fiance even got home and the other half before I went to bed... then the next day snacked on his until he yelled at me for eating his gift! lol... I COULDN'T HELP IT!!! those cookies are like crack to a crack addict. I even dipped into one of the boxes for my dad... I totally understand, I was furious with myself and somewhat embarrassed. The only way to reconcile with myself was to give myself permission to enjoy these cookies for the sole fact they are available one time a year and to make a promise to only buy one box next time! for my dad lol... and to step up the exercise. At least the boyscouts offer light popcorn. |

Thank you =D. The Firm. The one in particular that I am obsessed with is called the 500 calorie burn, it is so much fun. I bought it at best buy. The first time I tried it I thought I may die lol, and just completing the video was good enough for me even though I couldn't keep up. I've been doing it 1-2x a week since the middle of February and now I can easily keep up with the girls in the video (for the most part). What I love about it most is that it built my strength and stamina up sooo quickly. It's interval training, cardio for 5, weights and lunges etc for 5. SO much fun. I bought another because I loved this one so much and don't want to over do it and hurt myself. This one came with this latex band thingy but I think it bothers my knees and I just don't enjoy it as much. I think I paid $14.99 for each, not too much and definitely worth it! |

| Weight Loss | what's the most YOU have ever gained with PMS water weight? | Mar 10 2009 10:28 (UTC) |

I'm a freak, 12 pounds... threw me in a tizzy. PMS in conjuction with a night of tasty fried bar appetizers and draft beers, it took a week and a half for that to come off completely. |

| Motivation | the "all-or-nothing" mindset | Mar 09 2009 13:40 (UTC) |

Maybe taking a tip from weight watchers would help? I know with their points program you get a set point limit each day and even extra points to spend during the week for however you choose. My boss and a few friends are on this program and it does work very well for them! If they know they will be going out for the weekend they will use less points during the week and save their extra points for a free day. Not saying to join weight watchers, my point being that even a successful weight loss program gives people room to eat the foods they enjoy without beating themselves up. It's okay not to be perfect in your weight loss efforts. Pat your self on the back for all your successes and when you have a day that you don't eat how you had planned just try to do something extra that day like going on a walk or preparing your next meal the way that you know would make you feel better and know you are on your way. Black and white thinking is hard to break, sometimes its hard to get out of a box but you can do it! |

| Motivation | pear shapes and skinny jeans... | Mar 02 2009 13:39 (UTC) |

Oh yes, the skinny jean. I usually can't even get my calves through that narrow narrow end. lol. It's not like I have large calves or anything, they are muscular but definitely not huge. I found that straight legged jeans are comparable and much more universally flattering. Although I have found a couple pairs of skinnys at Kohls that are very inexpensive (seems like everythings always on sale there!) that I love and try not to wear everyday. I'm not a pear shape but do have some curves and average height, I try to wear something with a bit of heal because I find it to be much more flattering and my legs look so much more long and lean then if I were to wear a flat. I feel stocky when I wear the skinny with a flat. Oh I love clothes... |

I think the dvd'sare okay. Just be aware of which postures aggravate your knees and be a bit more careful with your form. When doing yoga at home I find it's very important to see your body while you learn the poses, like memorizing how it feels to hold the asana correctly. When I first started I did without a mirror then had the idea to set one up to see what I looked like and was pretty shocked by how off I was on some of the postures. I'm all about dvd's, I can't stand gyms and classes. |

next time you see her there buy two waters then go up to her and tell her the machine goofed and gave you two and offer her the extra, then introduce yourself. lol, why not right? she may see thru this but think it's totally adorable. and I totally agree not to interrupther work out, I definitely do not enjoy being approached when I'm all sweaty and ucky or out of breath lol. |

I find vinyasa yoga is quite amazing for sculpting long lean muscles for myself. If you do it right you can burn plenty of calories and become incredibly toned, not bulky. All with the added benefit of stress relief. MTV actually has some great yoga videos that are high speed and very much fun. I recommend. The crunch series also, it's not slow and boring like plenty of them out there. |

| Weight Loss | Do not do cardio more then three times a week???? | Feb 10 2009 00:02 (UTC) |

Thanks for the on topic comments, I do not understand why people get fixated on silly things. We all have different beliefs in what good nutrition is, let it be... Try to give a raw foodist a cooked potato or any potato and they would decline. That aside, There are good points to ponder. I have noticed when I work out at higher intensities over long periods of time I tend to maintain my weight or lose much slower but when I back down it seems the weight melts off quicker. I always thought maybe it had to do with muscle. Like when I back off I start to lose muscle and maybe that's why weight came off quicker?? It was always just a thought. lol.

I meant red meat, and I do feel it is junk... sorry. It depends what you believe I guess, potatoes have no nutritional value once they are cooked or if you don't eat the skin. I had just never heard to only do cardio 3 days, I asked what this ladies credentials are and apparently she has them. I've always heard try to fit it in every day at least 30 min. |

| Weight Loss | Is it me or my scale? | Feb 09 2009 13:08 (UTC) |

I was in a similar situation. I finally found the motivation to get back on track and lose the 5 pound gain from the holidays. It took three weeks for the scale to move and suddenly overnight I'm down three pounds. Keep it up... remember you can't focus on weight if you want to be successful, that goal is too narrow, too shallow. Focus on how good you feel after you work out, how good it feels to make a healthy choice over choosing something you know you don't really need. Remember to be thankful for your body and the amazing things it can do. These are things that help me. Just to be the best I can. |

| The Lounge | guys/men/males, what do you look for in a girl | Jan 27 2009 14:01 (UTC) |

Lady here... I've noticed a trend in my personal life. I'm a gal with low self esteem, I know I am not ugly but do not hold my appearance in high regard. There have been plenty of men, really good looking fit men, that I have found out later down the road really thought I was "hot" and wanted to date me but didn't pursue me too much longer after talking to me because they didn't think I was into them. Boy were they wrong! I just didn't get it. I felt because they were so gorgeous they must be way out of my league. Wrong! I didn't act confidant around them, too nervous and shy... didn't think they looked at me that way. I've also seen girls that may not be the "ideal" (whatever thta means) with the most amazing looking guys... why? Confidence. It's all about being you, using your great personailty and charm. Keep your eye out there, there are probably plenty of men looking and thinking about you and you just don't see it or don't really see you. |

It is a very nice ham, one of those dearborn hams and it is huge! lol, quite large and in charge. I haven't been able to find a basket for it's large size, however I do have a cellophane bag I was thinking I could put it in, tie it with pretty ribbon, but a bow on it. I also have a gift bag for wine, I picked out a winter wine made here in Michigan because I couldn't find their kind where I shopped. I still feel weird giving a ham but my dad wants to do it and most of your replies made me feel better about it. I had my fiance pick up a few Harley Davidson coffee mugs for me (he's so sweet), his dad just bought a Harleyso now they have some cool mugs they can take to work or whatever. Plus his mom and I were talking about how much we enjoy penguins the other day and I found a great holiday kitchen towel set with embroidered penguins. The thing is they live over an hour away, I see them probably once every few months, more around the holidays. I am getting to know them slowly but they are great people and I care greatly of their opinion of me. Our families haven't officially met so it's a strange thing for me. Thanks for all your thoughts, the ham it is. |

| The Lounge | highlights for dark brown hair? | Dec 22 2008 13:05 (UTC) |

You could get just a few, 2-8 foils sometimes called a sunkist, which would give you a feel for how you would look with highlights. It may be just the right amount of dimension for you, you may decide you don't like them at all, or decide that you want more. Any way it goes you'll save some money and your hair if you do decide that you don't like them. You can always have them toned down or colored over if they are too bright for you. If you are older (I have no clue) having a few lighter pieces around your face can soften features, very flattering. Or you could have them place a few in a more artistic manner which would just add a little extra sas to your style. I'm a hair stylist BTW. ;) |

I tend to lose evenly everywhere, I am afraid to lose more weight because I cannot afford new bras! lol. I am not sure what body type I am, I don't feel I fit apple or pair, I guess I lean towards hourglass but I do carry my extra weight in my lower abs and arms... strange but true. |

even mild dehydration will slow the metabolism by as much as 3% Drinking water can help stop hunger pangs for many dieters Lack of water is the number one cause of day time fatigue a 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short term memory and trouble with basic math and can cause difficulty focusing on a computer screen or printed page. it is estimated that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. big numbers in a country with such a great clean supply. for maximum physical health: take your body weight and divide by 2. divide this number by 8.. The resulting number approximates how many 8oz glasses of water you should drink ever day. If you perform intense physical activity you should ass an extra or two glasses.
Water composes 50%-70% of the body's weight. It is essential to the health of the skin and body because it sustains the health of the cells, aids in proper digestion, helps regulate the body's temperature, and aids in the elimination of toxins and waste. So drink up! =D |

It breaks my heart when I read posts of someone who is in so deep with their eating disorder. I am so sorry it has become so big for you. Know that you are more then your body, that you are valuable, intelligent, passionate, creative, and (knowing well the personality traits of those who fall on this side of the coin) you are probably a very giving person. I don't know you, true, but people who have eating disorders tend to have these traits. Fact is this path you are on will kill you if you cant normalize your body. This is the most scary part of recovery. You have to be able to cope with all the scary things the body does during recovery, it takes six months of eating balanced regular meals without purging for your body to re-learn just what to to with food. Up to 20% of the bodies water weight comes from food. The human brain is more then 60% fat! This type of fat comes from diet, like omegas and your body doesn't make the necessary fat to nourish your brain. I consider myself mostly recovered, I have my weak moments, times when I am scared by the way my mind is thinking. Something that really truly helps me, is being open when I am thinking negatively. If I have eaten something I feel nervous about I will tell someone that I want to purge. This helps me to diffuse myself because I have reached out for support of someone who is in a healthy mindset. Same concept of an alcoholic calling their sponsor when they are feeling the urge to drink. I recommend reading "The Secret", it's an amazing book. Know you are stronger then this. Create a support system for yourself. Learn all you can. You will beat this! =D sorry if I came on to strong, I am just very passionate about people recovering from eds. They are so big and scary and we need each other to be strong enough to recover. |

I wasn't planning on logging food from yesterday but curiosity killed me and I had to know. I had two dinners, one at home, and one with the fiance. My goal was to not eat until I was uncomfortablyfull but thanks to some champagne, I think I just didn't notice. For a grand total of 3,121. Although I assume it is somewhat higher then that, I am sure there is some nibbling that I mentally blocked out of guilt! Lucky me, I have one more dinner tonight with the fiances Family, I'm sure today will be somewhat of a crises also. |

Did you eat a decent meal before you went out?? Ive had those nights when I think I can skimp on the food in exchange for some good drinks only to be starving when the bars are closed. I think its somewhat common, Taco Bell created a whole meal slogan dedicated to the late night drinking crowd. I wouldn't worry about it and next time you go out eat some good food and drink lots of water while your out and when you get home so your mind can stay on the right track when it comes to snacking! =D |

I like to peel and/or cut up fruit such as bananas and cantaloupe and freeze them in individual portions. This makes it super easy to make a quick smoothie in the morning when your trying to get out the door! =D I feel it is important to get some protein in my smoothie so it isn’t so carb loaded, a bit more balanced. I like to add the Greek style yogurt also because it adds an amazing creaminess, plus it’s more protein and calcium!
My favorite smoothie recipe:
½ cup Greek style yogurt ¼ cup vanilla soymilk 1 frozen bananas ¾ cup frozen strawberries 1 scoop protein powder splenda to taste

When I was severely anorexic, lowest was 78 (should have died, miracle I didn't) My brain was so distorted everyone looked overweight to me and I didn't trust anyone. I think it's more about building a trusting honest relationship with the person in treatment rather then the apperance of the professional. |
