I use mirena IUD 3.5 years 100% effective thusfar :-) I love it. only drawbacks....initially i bled for a week? two? but it was only heavy at first. within the first 1-2 months my periods became what they are now....almost non-existant. very very very light but regular. more regular than before. first few months i was VERY hormonal when PMS time came around but that has settled now as well. i get a little of that tenderness that was mentioned above too but nothing too terrible. as far as insertion..........well i had just given birth less than 6 months before so my reference point for pain was high. it pinched a little and thinking about it makes me clench my hands tighter, that was essentially what i did during the whole procedure, tensed up my whole body lol. the nurses said i did well some women scream but they did want to tell me that till after lol. of course i will get a new one when the time comes....it is brainless BC and makes my periods sooooo nice. im not looking forward to the procedure really but it is tolerable and def worth it. |

i have been having headaches and mild yet persistant dizziness and first everyone said blood pressure but it just did not seem right to me. i am awaiting my docs appt but i think it may be low iron based on family history and my eating habits. that is another option to look into. im not going too crazy until i get blood work done tho. |

| Vegetarian | Pescetarian- Fish Isn't Meat? | Aug 22 2009 20:15 (UTC) |

I suppose I should refer to myself as pescatarian but as many have said.....it is hard for ppl in general to wrap their heads around that idea and I don't feel like explaining myself. Actually I try not to draw attention to the fact I stopped eating meat at all. I germerally do not get positive reactions and don't like dealing with that either. I started I guess for moral reasons but really now..........I don't like meat anymore. Esp the texture. I don't really like fish either. Except maybe sushi. I now find the taste of seafood replusively strong but I eat it for the protein. I prefer to have it cooked so well I can't taste it really. |

| Vegetarian | Being vegetarian and getting drunk with alcohol | Apr 08 2009 02:06 (UTC) |

Original Post by flonklar: First, I think for most vegetarians, it IS a morality issue. That is the main problem. Some times when i smell some of my old favorites I am tempted. (I am a relatively new vegetarian.) Some things i will never be tempted by again such as a steak. I have absolutely NO DESIRE to ever eat a steak or anything with such a texture again. i would not eat this while drunk, sober, nothing. it has no appeal. however, more processed foods which i know are more terrible for me and more terrible for moral reasons are the things i have cravings for. i think that the processing almost removes the animal "feel" of a meat. or if the meat is finely chopped or otherwise well hidden -- this could pose a problem. and again, these are my personal obstacles only. as for not lamenting on your donut issues on CC, i think that is a personal choice bc i have seen many a post from a disheartened dieter who needs the support after having just chowed through some pastries. that is what CC is here for. this forum is for vegetarians......so maybe that is why the vegetarians are here asking for support? idk makes sense to me. yes it is complicated. no you may never understand. i did not for years. i make no judgement on anybody's choices for eating meat or not. it is a personal choice and i hope that my choices may make a tiny difference. |

| Vegetarian | Skinny Bitch and Counting Calories | Apr 05 2009 20:03 (UTC) |

I loved skinny bitch and it was the driving force in me becoming vegetarian last october. the book gives good advice overall but unfortunately some of the dieting ideas were just not working for me. the fruit idea is very true that it processes quickly and easily by itself but it left me hungry and then 30 min later hungry again lol. i tried that for monthsbefore i finally concluded it was not working for me. i had to re-introduce things to my diet like eggs bc my body was simply not performing well without the protein. i was ravenous ALL the time and substituting meat for junk. i have currently settled into a niche of just not eating animals but i am eating animal products. cheese, milk, eggs, etc. if i had endless amounts of time and money im sure i could be without these things but i cannot do this now. i have 2 children and a family and a demanding job. i barely have time to do what i do now and i budget my money carefully. i just have more people to think about right now than just myself so i will just do what i can. im teetering on the edge of adding fish to my diet only for quick protein fixes. i aim for a 40-30-30 ratio and im getting more like 40-20-40 -- too much fat. some days are more carby too i really have to work at it to get where i do get. i eat a serving of almonds, soy milk, yogurt, cheese, a zone bar, and eggs almost daily but it is just not quite enough. one thing i know for sure is that bc of skinny bitch i am DONE with beef, chicken, pigs, etc. fish does bother me a little still but idk what else to do. perhaps if i hide the flavor very well i can trick myself lol. i tried for a very long time to trick myself into thinking i dont need to extra protein but sadly i do. so i stopped counting/logging for awhile but i have went back to it bc it simply works for me. i have to do what works :-P |

| Weight Loss | I never thought.. | Nov 23 2008 23:39 (UTC) |
|
I have had a similar journey. After my 2nd baby i was 215. i never thought i would get back to where i was. i got down to 144 and then just went off track for about a year tho. i snapped out of it finally (not too long ago) and was at 156-8 pounds. i got myself together and made a commitment to just do it and lose the last bit of weight. im down to 138 now. and i still have fat days. all this time no matter how big or how small i have been, i have always felt the same. at my biggest i was in denial that i was that big, stuffing myself into the largest size i would buy, a 16. i wore alot of elastic lol. now that i am smaller i still dont feel as skinny as ppl tell me i am. i think it is human nature. so i guess i dont have much advice...that commitment has to come from a place in you. i have just gotten fed up everytime i have lost weight. i have been here for 3 yrs, its an ongoing thing. if you lost all that before, then it is in there to finish the job. dont beat yourself up, keep focusing on what you have accomplished, and just know that it will come. :-) |

I have been with Sprint for 6-8 yrs, cant remember. Dont know how to get out of the contract but I agree that they suck. Well, customer service sucks. I dont really have a problem with the actual service or price. But i DREAD when i have to call them for anything! Im all for globalization, really. but there are some things that should not be outsourced to someone who speaks english as a second language. Over the phone customer service is one. My husband is Cuban and has a very thick accent. He makes me do his phone calls most of the time bc ppl have a hard time understanding him sometimes. common sense, sprint. common sense... |

| The Lounge | Gas? | Sep 20 2008 23:12 (UTC) |

I live in KY. I am the manager of a gas station (not the owner!). I love economics. With that intro -- the prices of gasoline should stabilize. Overall demand declined for the first time in many years, this is a sign that the market price is reaching equilibrium. The economy will recover soon (bc it always does) and inflation will slow. These factors will stabilize the market. I also have something to say about panic and price raising. The laws of supply and demand play a role in this. First, a hurricane is coming. Production in hte gulf halts until it passes. Supply goes down -- price goes up to lower demand. People freak out and panic and instead of doing what the market needs and lower our demand, we run right out and buy every drop of gas we can. We have increased our demand and further depleted the supply, causing prices to raise AGAIN to combat the demand until we reach equilibrium again. Lesson -- When the prices jump up, simply buy only the gas you need to get by until it goes back down bc it will. I generally sell 5-6 thousand gallons of gas a day. When the town i live in panicked, I sold close to 12 thousand. What happened the next day? Prices went up again. The independent dealer operating next to me told a shared vendor that his cost for gas went up .63 cents when he had fuel delivered. Now I do not defend the actions of every retail gasoline outlet NOR do I agree with "Big Oil" companies. I just know my end of things and with all the stuff that happened really got me thinking. People in my town were asking me the craziest things. "Are they really going to ration gas?" "Is the price really going to 6.00 a gallon?" I finally told people to stop watching so much TV. This panic got reflected in the pump price. We were 3.49 before the cost increase, then I know we ended up at 3.99 or 4.09 before it was all over and we are back at 3.79 now. I saw a 3.69 on the way home yesterday so it will likely be 3.69 at my store towards the end of the week. How does that happen? Well take the guy next to me. He raises prices bc his cost increased. He may even raise his price in anticipation of the delivery bc he knows that once it gets there he will be making pennies on the gallon. My company although still small has more buying power. So although we may get gas cheaper, if we leave our price .10 lower everyone will bum rush our store and we run out of gas. Then we lose inside sales too. And we have to buy at the higher price sooner. So thats why when one station raises they all do. A friend got into a heated discussion with me about that....I truely hate to raise prices .20-.25 at a time but I have to. Our prices increase at the terminal and that has to be reflected at the pump. We can not sell gas at cost. How would we pay wages and the rent or utilities? So prices drop at the terminal. They lower slowly bc first businesses need to recoup what they have lost selling for pennies on the gallon. Then somebody says, hey if I drop a little now I will be more competitive and get more business. Once everybody sees that somebody went down, others will follow suit or they will lose sales. Well, that is my thoery based on what I see. Now lets see if anybody bites my head off lol. |

| The Lounge | Principles of Macroeconomics Help with GDP | Sep 17 2008 03:13 (UTC) |

Can i step in on this, drea? lol GDP is kinda like all the $$ we make from the goods and services we produce. Therefore, buying a car in Germany or a plane in France only increases their GDP, not ours. If you bought the car here, perhaps that would increase our GDP a little for the service but since the car was not produced here it does not increase our GDP. (Technically saying the same thing as subtracting imports i supposed but just another way to think about it...) As for your lottery winning purchase of a jet (which i would caution you to think twice about this decision lol)...i dont think that is included in GDP. I think we are concerned with first time purchases not used as far as goods go. Feel free to challlenge that thought bc it has been awhile since i had my intro finance class and this is memory talking here....

Here are a few of my baby favorites:
That is all i can think of at the moment. i had 2 girls pretty close together and kept all the baby stuff from the first so that i could use it again so i got interesting things the 2nd time around. i had the diaper genie for my first and i was not impressed. too much work when i could just tie a poop diaper in a plastic grocery bag and not smell it. the refills are not that expensive i guess but grocery bags are free! oh somebody gave me a little box of scented bags to put diapers in that came in handy when i would be at a friends house and got a poop that i did not want to stink up their house with. |

I have been dealing with this type stuff for awhile now. You basically got peopel who are supportive and just ribbing you a little and people that are being snide bc they are haters. Instead of explaining ur newfound commitment to healthiness (which gets old!) i have two suggestions for turning down food: 1. "I just ate." 2. "I dont like <insert name of food here>." These two explinations are simple and hard to complain about! I know people who would give me light ribbing but after losing 50 pounds what can somebody say? I mean tease me all you want but I lost 50 pounds! |

1200-1250 would still result in weight loss. just at a slightly slower pace. it is still a deficit. and exercise may not be the best thing to cut out. maybe you should work on toning up. i fit crunches and push ups in the space of less than 10 minutes and both of them make a huge difference. |

| I think it sounds reasonable if you are really sedentary. Otherwise I would bump it up a little. A weight loss of 1-2 pounds a week is a healthy weight loss. More than that and you are likely losing muscle not fat. And that will not help you. | |||

when you are using the tools feature are you changing any numbers or picking a date? or did you log a different weight today? the tools feature can be used to get a modified intake to be more aggressive with weight loss. if you plug in an unrealisitic number it will tell you that the date is to aggressive...otherwise it will tell you what you need to eat to reach a certain weight by a certain time - not nessesarily the one that the site calculated the first time when u signed up. Hope that sheds some light for you... |

| Weight Loss | Sodium | Nov 28 2007 05:23 (UTC) |

Oh! Check your labels if you want to make a cut in sodium. Green Giants' simply steam veggies are way lower than the regular ones. Today I entered the stats off of some frozen green beans and the sodium was ZERO! Different brands are obviously more conscious about it. Buy no salt added canned veggies and look for the lower sodium soups as well. |
|||
| Weight Loss | Sodium | Nov 28 2007 05:19 (UTC) |

I try not to fret over sodium too much. I have good days and bad days. If there is a lower sodium option, I will take it. If there is not, I will still eat the food if it is overall good. For example, chicken noodle soup. I love it. I buy lower sodium if I can but if not, I am still going to eat it. I dont have those health issues, so I pick my battles. I used to have high cholesterol so I used to watch that carefully, but never sodium related problems. I decided one day that you can only worry about so many things, you know, before you drive yourself crazy. So I stopped worrying about sodium. It will definately reflect on the scale, however. Drink lots of water and get your potassium to counteract!! |
|||
| Weight Loss | Sodium | Nov 28 2007 04:31 (UTC) |

I believe the general rule is 2500, although the body needs only about 200 for proper function. You prolly need alot less than 2500 if you have health issues like hbp. Also, potassium helps balance sodium in the body. |

I have had an effect on many people, family and friends both. My father has lost weight, my mother has lost weight, my husband has lost weight, and my 4 year old knows that she needs to eat protein to build big muscles and she shows off her biceps to everybody. It is pretty cute bc she is slim build anyway and you can really see her little muscles. I get excited when she gains weight, she gets high fives for that. I worry that my kids are going to be too obessive, but my main goal is to teach them how to eat well. Nobody ever taught me.

| The only thing i can add is that either one (diet or reg) are bad for your teeth. the same way it can erode battery acid or clean your toilet, it can eat away tooth enamel.
beyond that - i drank an occasional diet soda while pregnant and my babies are just fine. i always looked at it from the perspective of the worse things i could be doing. like women who smoke crack while pregnant. which is worse - crack or diet coke? i'll have a diet coke please. |

| What I have learned from Starbucks:
Any Frappuccino can be made with light mix that is creme or coffee, whichever you prefer, saving MANY calories - think hundreds! Skip the whip, it adds close to 90-110 depending on the size. My lastest personal favorite: Tall Light Caffe Vanilla with an shot of espresso blended in. 110 without the espresso but a shot of that is only like 10 or so calories according to CC --- so grand total IS: 120. If I have the calories to spare, I get whip. Total Starbucks addict. |
