I struggled with bulimia for five years. Before I got better, I couldn't go more than three days without binging/purging. I am actually majoring in psych in hopes of helping other women over come this disease. It is a major mental disorder, and no one can help her except herself. I knew I had a problem, but could not stop until I became pregnant with my son. My husband knew, but did not ever see or catch me, so he figured it was not a big problem. Luckily, I cared about my son too much to continue while pregnant, and that was the mental change that saved me. She is using bulimia as a way to handle her stress; by focusing on food all other stress is minor. Gaining weight will remain a fear for here for the rest of her life, but maybe she should consider finding a new career that does not focus soley on body image. I was in beauty pageants and modeling, and I realized my health is not worth ruining my life. Hopefully the therapist will be able to help her. Sadly, they did nothing for me. I think that she needs to live with somebody, and never eat meals alone. One thing that cuts back the binge and purge cycle is eating with friends or family. If she had someone living with her, then when the monster strikes, she would have a better chance of fighting him. If she is having serious health problems caused by the disorder she should be hospitalized until they can help her. Advice for you would be to see her as often has you can, and if she gets to go home maybe have her stay with you for a while. Tell her to stay busy while she is board, and to never sit at home alone. She does need help in learning how to eat healthy, and there is nothing you can do for her mentally. Just be there for her, and maybe someday she will have a mental awakening. Bulimia is very tough and controlling though. Do some research as well if you would like to help her more. |

If I were you, I would start setting goals. Focus on things positive away from food and your ex, and soon you will feel better about yourself and gain your self-esteem back as well as appetite. I wish you the best of luck. |

Thank you, I have a lot to learn. Thanks weiing for the links, they were really helpful. I spent a while visiting them; I basically just need to learn how to cook vegan items. Especially tofu, I haven't been so great at cooking it in the past, except for in Miso Soup. You can't really go wrong, that soup is delicious. |

Physical: I like that muscle that everyone calls the "V" line. Below the belly button. lol I also have a thing for perfect necks. Sounds wierd, but I don't like them too thick and meaty. haha, Or too thin and scrawny. I like them perfect. I also think broad shoulders are nice and masculine, and it doesn't help to have nice biceps also;) I have to say I do love the tall, dark, and handsome as stupid as it sounds. Case in point; guys who are gorgeous in my eyes: Johnny depp, Collin Farrel, Carl Urban, and of course my hubby, etc. ect. ect, and they gotta be a bad boy, but a teddy bear with me. Tattoos are hot too. Personality: Intelligence, and a sense of humor:) And of course treat me like a queen, but only if they have the confidence to be the king. |

P.S. I am not vegetarian soley for my own health, made obvious that I smoke. I am vegetarian to save an animals life. I make sure when I smoke to not blow it directly in an animals face as well. That would defeat my purpose in being vegetarian. |

I am a smoker, and not proud of it. I know you didn't want to hear cop out reasoning for smoking; the truth is I'm selfish. I have a very addictive personality, and have been sneaking cigarettes and smoking since middle school. I've been smoking so long that I don't even remember what it feels like not to smoke. I am about to receive a degree in psychology, and I know I don't want to become an MD someday, who sneaks out for a cigarette. As far as being vegetarian, there are more animal tests that are conducted to get people to quit, by showing smokers the effects it causes on animals, and therefore themselves. I have been vegetarian since I was sixteen, and I probably will continue to smoke much longer. One day I hope to quit, but it really makes quiting less appealing when others try to convince you that you are horrible for smoking. I don't walk up to over-weight people, and make them aware of their self-destruction. I'm pretty sure they are aware, as am I with smoking. I could harrass everyone who buys overly packaged food that is non biodegradable waste, and let them know that they are destroying the planet as well, but of course I won't. I smoke outside, dispose of my butts correctly, and attempt to quit at least every six months. Some of us suffer from bad habits, and I hope you don't have to hear about your bad habits rigorously. |

| Vegetarian | Why can't I lose any weight????? | Nov 12 2008 19:57 (UTC) |

I also had bulimia in high-school, and finally overcame it at 20 yrs old. I started at 16, and it ruined my teenage years. The very sad, but motivational, thing to find out after you stop is that you do lose ten times more weight eating, than you ever did stuck in the self destructive habit. I eat very healthy now, and I have never looked better. I agree that the last couple pounds are the hardest to lose, and I don't see any other way than to minimize more calories to lose it. I guess I could amp up my work out routine, but I have a 10 month old and not a lot of time. I'm so tired of worrying about food. I hope heaven has an all you can eat buffet, and food doesn't stick to my backside. |

Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
