Weight Loss Help! I'm a meat-a-holic! Jul 08 2009

Hello vdevors,

You are right about making meat the side dish.  I make it a rule that the base or the largest portion of my meal should always be vegetables.  The high fiber content makes veggies very filling!  This is also great if you are on a budget - vegetables are much cheaper than meat.  Realistically, it will be very hard to follow this rule for all three meals (especially breakfast).  However, I have lost about 15 pounds just by following this rule for lunch and dinner.

Good luck!

Weight Loss Tall Women 5'9" or taller! May 27 2009

I am 5'10" and definitely struggle with body image!  Sometimes I feel like I am lacking feminity because I am taller than a lot of men.  I HATE it when people use the word "BIG" to refer to me.  Everything is relative though right?  I need more tall friends...=)

I totally agree!  I am a 25 y.o. female.  I am 5'10" and weigh 134 pounds.  At my previous weight of 152, all of my girlfriends would tell me that I looked fine and that I was skinny.  I didn't realize that I could lose any weight until a guy friend told me that I looked like I'd "gained a few".  My diet at that weight consisted mainly of junk (fast food daily and sometimes twice a day).  As women, I think we do ourselves a disservice by being "too nice" to eachother!  I now have a much more balanced diet and am so much happier and healthier!  All thanks to my guy friend's word vomit!

I would definitely agree that eating habits start with your parents.  My parents love food and love to cook as well.  I would say that generally their portion sizes are generous and their cooking style is traditional American, not healthy.  My mom is constantly practicing fad diets that she never sticks to and my dad is now diabetic.

I am slim because I am conscious of what I eat, but fight a desire to binge every time I'm around junk food.  I hate to blame my parents, but I feel like they've taught me to put food on a pedastol.  Is there any way to unlearn what I learned growing up?  I don't have a problem with my weight, but I want the desire to binge to go away.

I am thankful for the fact that I am aware of this and that one day I will be able to give my children a healthy outlook on eating.

Weight Loss I feel like I have the wrong idea about frame sizes- does it mean your bones are wider, denser or both depending on size? Nov 14 2008

I definitely don't think that head size has anything to do with it.  I have a small frame and a large head.  It may have something to do with the fact that I'm 5'10", but I definitely don't feel like a small-framed person.  The weight ranges work for me though so I'll go with it.

Weight Loss Drunken Eating....AWFUL Nov 14 2008
21:13 (UTC)

For some reason drunken eating doesn't really hurt me too badly.  Usually the next morning I won't be hungry until noon/1ish so its I end up skipping breakfast.  It also helps that my friends are weight-conscious too.  We may each have 1-2 slices of pizza and then agree to toss the rest out rather than exercise "real" self-control and put it away!
