Weight Loss Is anyone scared that losing weight will be disappointing/ ruin things? Jan 29 2009

Do you honestly think that people view you in a better light because youre overweight? They dont.

It sounds like you dont think that you deserve to be happy and healthy. You do, everyone does. Your pants size doesnt define you or anyone else. If you are really more happy being fat, that dont worry about what its like to be skinny because it wont ever apply to you. But if you want to make a change in yourself for the better, just know that losing weight can only improve your lifestyle and make you a happier person! Who doesnt like looking good in a bikini?

Those skinny minis you see working out probably are thinking about how they wish they had smaller thighs and trimmer waists. Or they are trying to maintain their physiques.... Either way they want to be healthy- just like you! Youre not any different from them, tell yourself that. Youll get there!

Weight Loss This is all backwards... Jan 29 2009

I also dont think it makes sense that its from weightloss. Its not like you woke up one day, and you weighed 35 pounds less. It took you time, and your body should have adjusted...but then again you never know.

Take hot baths and do some light stretching in the morning and at night. Even taking a couple minutes out of your work day to take a walk around the office could give you some relief. If you have the money for it,  maybe get a massage? If you find a good therapist, he or she will be able to find problem areas that you yourself werent even aware of and make you feel like 1000 times better. Good luck, hope you find some relief!

Weight Loss eaten all my cals in the AM!!! HELP! Jan 28 2009

My advice would be to eat light the rest of the day. Youre right, you cant go the rest of the day without eating. For lunch today, treat yourself to a salad, have a snack of fruit and nuts later on, and for dinner eat whatever you normally would but stick with small portions. A good work out would probably also make you feel better.

Tomorrow morning, eat a good balanced breakfast. In the morning if you feel like you need to eat A LOT, try foods that are less calorie dense, so you can have A LOT of them. 4 egg whites peppers and mushrooms, a piece of toast, a serving of light yogurt (maybe with some granola on top)?  All of that would be roughly 250 cals-and you could even grab a piece of fruit on your way out the door. :)

If there was blob sticking out the top of my pants, I certainly wouldnt consider them to be a perfect fit.  I'd work on losing a couple pounds and toning up. Eat less/better (depending on what youre eating habits are) and workout more.

Health & Support is it bad to be "underweight"? Jan 15 2009

I once read an article about how being slightly underweight leads to a longer life on average. Just a fun little fact. I wish I would have saved it because it was fairly interesting.

Its too bad that all the people that post on this site about their obesity and their poor food choices arent also told about the awful health issues that come with being obese and told they are mentally unwell. Shes wasnt advocating what she was doing and was clear about that. How rude.

There really is no way for you to gain or maintain your weight unless you are eating enough. If youre arent eating enough, your body will break down its fat and/or muscle stores, and you will lose weight. Depending on what your metabolism is doing though, you may be eating less that what the charts and calculators tell you but still maintain. Thats only because your metabolism has been slowed.  Keep in mind that you should try to be eating more so that you can increase your metabolism to the point where it can maintain with you eating the proper amount of calories that you need daily. I hope I answered your question!

I hope that you can soon get to the point where you dont have to worry so much about your weight...Its really hard, I know. I also hope you wont always have to write multiple disclaimers on your posts just to avoid being accused of being pro-this or pro-that.  Keep working toward wellness! :)

I dont want to talk or think about holidays right now... They are finally over and that is the only thought I have about them at this point haha. Kidding. Kinda..

4th of July- Being able to spend all day outside and into the evening is always nice, especially with family and friends around.

Christmas- lots of family time.

Motivation Why is size 9 a large at hollister co? Jan 05 2009
19:32 (UTC)

Hollisters demographic is 14-18.

But its not just hollister's sizing that would consider someone who wears a size 9 a larger. Although everyone knows hollister makes **** clothing, when you look at higher end labels, few make XL and an XXL would be unheard of. And yet their sizing guilds, at least Kensie, follows roughly the same sizing as Hollister. Would it make you feel smaller if they invented a triple zero so that you could wear a 7 instead?

That sounds like what I have tried. It definitely helped with cravings and feeling hungry. With any diet pill, I dont suggest taking them for more than 2 weeks at a time. Otherwise you risk becoming dependent on them (physically depending on the ingredients, or mentally).

Motivation What are some goal treats I can give myself when i reach my mini goals? Jan 05 2009

I dont have much weight that Im trying to lose, but when I have a really good week of working out and sticking to my diet, I will go out and get myself a new nail colour or give myself a relaxing hour by slathering on a facial mask and giving myself a long soak in the tub.

Your mini goals are serious victories, which is awesome! Maybe you could go and get a manicure? Even if you dont have acrylic nails put on, its really nice to have a full on professional manicure-or pedi for that matter. How about having a new hair cut or color done? If you are going to be losing 30 pounds, I imagine that the way your face looks will change, so maybe getting new hair style would compliment it! New bras and panties are always nice also. OOh! A girls night? Or a special dinner or a party at your house? No one would have to know that it was in celebration of your 30 lb loss, but it would be a reason to dress up a little and look cute! Now a million ideas are popping into my head for you...Good luck!

Health & Support Fasting questions Jan 05 2009

I have done a lot of reading on safe and effective fasting...and its' benefits (yes there are benefits)!

However, because I foresee this thread eventually being locked or deletely-msg me if youre interested. If not, do know that you cant just suddenly stop eating. You need to prepare your body with at least 2 days of eating only raw (or lightly steamed) fruits and veggies. There are a few juices and herbs that should definitely be avoided. However, if you are doing this for religious/cultural reasons, there may be other exemptions for you.

Prescription for Nutritional Healing is my bible and has a big section on fasting. They may have one in you library, otherwise it would be a great investment.

Foods Full but Hungry? Jan 04 2009

Sometimes Im hungry immediately after a meal, other times ill be randomly hungry in the middle of the day...either way i just ignore it sometimes and pretend like Im not. As mentioned above-a glass of water can help. Otherwise Ill go ahead and distract myself with something (for me its knitting, taking a walk, or cleaning). Then an hour and a half from then if Im still hungry Ill eat something, because then I know that its really my stomach saying "feed me" and not boredom or emotions. Hunger makes too many people stop in their tracks and stuff face to suppress it immediately. Its not bad to be hungry sometimes. Just my take on the topic.

At 16 and 5'7'', getting on the scale to see it read 145. Sick. Though I never had rolls or love handles, and always had good muscle tone and definition, it was too too much for me.

Keep in mind that CC's numbers and figures on things are higher than other sources you will come across. For example, they say anything under a BMI of 20 is underweight, when really its anything under 18.5. It is what it is.

Resticting your calories is a good start. But to really see results, you should be working out to burn even more. Plus if you gain a little more muscle mass, you will increase your metabolism. :)

I would suggest searching around the web for some forums through websites specifically geared toward people in recovery from eating disorders. I can see how you are frustrated. It gets old when someone posts a question which is immediately shut down by a mod cutting and pasting the same bit of info onto the thread that they have in a dozen other threads and point fingers at you, accusing you of promoting an unhealthy lifestyle... Im sorry that youre feeling so defeated here. If you would be interested in checking out my main forum- feel free to message me.

Health & Support All or Nothing? Dec 30 2008

That sort of thought processes or mentality is found in a lot of yo-yo dieters, bulimics, and over-eaters. Its good that you have recognized it in yourself. By trying different ways of portion control Im sure that you can find some middle ground. Also, if you back away from the ALL or NOTHING type thoughts by rewarding yourself for small daily victories, you will start to feel better about yourself and find more balance in your eating habits.

Health & Support please don't yell at me Dec 30 2008
16:03 (UTC)

A few months ago I was in the same boat you are. Im a bit over 5'7 and was a size 3. I also felt big and unfit. I also dont weigh myself, but I can tell from what size I wear and how things fit me about what I roughly weigh from when I used to know my weight. However, I was NOT underweight when I wore a size 3. I was still in  healthy range weighing 124ish I believe, if I remember correctly.

No one thought I looked fat. No one thought I needed to shape or firm up. What matters is how you feel and what makes you feel confident in yourself. Whether that means you need to get firmer or smaller, so long as youre healthy, you will be good to go!

You are not alone!

I dont feel guilty for having indulged over christmas break because I had a wonderful time being home with family and seeing friends. However, I am rather distressed because my lovely mother sent me home with a huge container of cookies. Plus we recieved all kinds of great chocolate treats in our stockings!!! I placed the cookies on a shelf that I CANNOT reach without my boyfriends help and the chocolates are about to be placed up there as well. Kinda like the out of sight out of mind concept, but better ;)

Motivation 15 lbs before spring break, who's with me? Dec 19 2008

I dont have 15 pounds to lose- but I definitely look forward to shedding a few more lbs and being nicely toned for my Mexico trip. Except I leave for my vacation in mid February! EEK! Im all about some healthy eating and exercise until then...and who isnt up for looking fabulous!?! Just so that I will have something to compare to here are my starting stats for our little challenge:

Bust-33

Waist- 26.5

Hip-32.5

^^Yes clearly I have no real waist to speak of and am shaped like a boy lol. Im currently wearing a size 1.  I was wearing a 3/5 around Halloween so I have been working hard at getting down to a zero and making progress. I also just bought a new suit and a verrry adorable dress for my trip- YAY!

Weight Loss does this sound like low blood sugar? Dec 18 2008

Your physical health (BMI, eating habits, activity level) would be a much better indicator initially, as diabetes risk is increased with obesity. However since you have a family member with it you should keep an eye out for actual symptoms which include...

  • Frequent urination
  • Excessive thirst
  • Extreme hunger
  • Unusual weight loss
  • Increased fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Blurry vision
  • Talk to your doctor at the next check up.

Weight Loss Perhaps I should be eating more Dec 18 2008
    09:15 (UTC)

I suppose you would have to base your correlation between the two on more than just one workout.

If youre 4 pounds heavier and your goal is to lose weight, then obviously the chocolates didnt help.

If your goal is to be a better athlete then you probably arent going to be focusing as much on the scale, and more on your personal workout goals.

On any account, congrats on getting in such a great training session!

Motivation I dont know what to think.... Dec 17 2008

Just take a break from counting calories for a bit to start. Instead, eat foods that you know are good for you and try not to think about the calories that are in them...Make a new plan that involves the food groups and servings maybe? Grains, Fruits, Veggies, Dairy, Meat, and even (eek!) some sugars and fats.

Maybe involve your friends in your workout activities? That way when you go to the gym you can bond with your girlfriends and not think about how many calories youre burning. Its up to you to take the emphasis off of the numbers, the scale and your pants size-but by reaching out to your friends and staying busy and social, you may develop a nice balance of fitness and happiness. :)

Motivation Unsupportive People around you? Dec 16 2008

    9

Im sorry to hear that you dont have a better live in support system, but lets give them a little credit. Very few men can understand how food habits can affects women....How can we expect them to? We hardly understand it ourselves.  Men seem to have the luxury of eating a lot more than we can and not gain. Thats just how it goes.

My advice to you to you is to go ahead and make whatever changes to your diet or lifestyle to help you achieve your weightloss goals. Let your brother and boyfriend know about what changes youre going to make and you will need to tell them *clearly* what they can do to help you. If you purchase your own foods that they need to keep their mitts off of, be clear about it. Im sure that they would respect you for that...along with whatever other changes you need to make. And if they arent supportive enough, then you have CC!
