check out this link: http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-rice-w hite-long-grain-regular-i20045

According to this site, 1 cup of cooked rice is about 158g

divide that by 4 would be 36 something grams and that's 1/4 cup.

Hope that helps.

You're right, that is at 67 inches.  Gosh m such a retard Yell!

The advice then was at 1800 and I was eating about 1900 and it turns out that the real advice is at 2200.

67 centimeters would be what 2 feet and 2.5 inches?

When I moved to Europe and realized that I was at 240 pounds (about 109kg?) - It hit me that I was already at 30 and my clothes did not fit anymore.

I also thought that it would be nice to see my daughter's 18th birthday at least. (She was 2 then - hehehe - hit me pretty early)

Now I'm down to 98.5 kg and I feel great!

In the mean time, watch this and please learn to love yourself.  Don't beat yourself up about who you are, or rather, what you think you are.  Change for yourself and your health if you like, but YOU are more than just your body.  :)

Live, love, and laugh... :)

Saw that VIDEO, and Loved it!!! Be happy with who you are, and not who others think you are!

Share the positive attitude, and don't tell others to do something they are not willing to do!!!

Do what you think is right for you, because you have no one else to blame but yourself - and you have no one else to be proud of more than you are proud of yourself.

Be you!!! Not what others think you should be.

And with time taking so long, who's measuring it anyway but you?  It is only taking long if you say it is, so please try to think positive and think that it is just flying and that you are closer to your goal now than before you read this reply!!!

Lots of luck.

Websqueen has a good suggestion:

Start with weight training for your lower body with free weights.

But have your knee checked out first, because the worst you can do is to place more pressure on an injured body part.

Lots of luck!

You've got the first step!!!! ACCEPTANCE

That takes a lot of will power.  You have it in you, now that you have accepted the mistakes of the past.

Now time to invest on your desire:

I agree with gi-jane (as i almost always do) because it is what works for you.  So starting out with this site is one of the best steps to take.  Use all the tools such as the Calorie Count - Food Log and Activity Log.  It is all easy to do.

Remember how you felt when you crashed-diet, and take it from many of us here in this site, you need to eat and fuel yourself WELL and excersice to maintain a very healthy and positive lifestyle.

Always get help from others (if you need to consult respective professionals) but remember that you still have to decide and act on it - you can't blame others for what you have done.

Just as Morpheus from the 'Matrix' movie said, "I can only show you the door".

We (all the support group you can get) can only give you ideas, but you have to walk the walk.

Lots of luck and never give up!!!

Weight Loss how fast is too fast to lose weight Dec 10 2008

There are lots of factors for that rapid loss, it is mainly water and waste (yes that weighs something also).

If you plan to lose weight and feel better about it, then at the most, you should strive to lose about 2 pounds a week, until you reach your target weight.  (you can never disappear of course even if you do lose 2 pounds a weed because you can only reach a plateau wherein you cannot lose anymore weight in a healthy manner).

That's what I have read so far.

Lots of luck.

Weight Loss Don't eat anything white??? Dec 10 2008

This "guideline" which is actually, unfortunately given out widely by MD's is so broad and convoluted that it really doesn't make any diet sense at this point. The white food rule stemmed from the theory that white sugar, white flour and other "low fiber" carbohydrate foods were easily broken down and absorbed into the blood stream, blah,blah,blah...Anyway to take the good from that blanket statement and to expand it to actualy make it resemble good nutrition advise, you need to take this from the other end.  If I sound frustrated on this one it's because I spend hrs and hrs every week explaining this exact same thing to my diabetic patients..

The general idea behind the whole "no white foods" thing is to cut out highly processed, low fiber, low nutritional value, empty calorie carbohydrates and replace them with whole fruits, veges and grains that will provide nutrients to your body in the most perfect way nature intended.

So, to break it down even further...when you choose a carbohydrate for source ask youself this question- Did it grow on a tree or a vine or in the ground? Does it still retain the food value it had when it was picked, meaning, for example is it an apple? (good) Is it apple juice? (not so good)  Is it 100% whole wheat bread? (good) Is it bread made with enriched wheat flour? (not so good)

Bottom line- when you think about what carbs you want to eat think 1. Is it a whole food? 2.  Does it have at least 2 grams of fiber per serving?  If after you have answered yes to both of these questions, the food is still white? Well, then, EAT IT!!!

Good guide, and this is what you tell your diabetic patients?

Would this also be helpful for non-diabetics but have a family history of diabetes?  Thanks for putting it in plain language, it really helped me!!!

Just a suggestion, since you do have about 25 minutes of alloted 'exercise' minutes, then maybe you should switch between the weights and cardio.

One day weights and the next day cardio.  You really don't need to go outside to do cardio, go online and look for aerobics or similar indoor exercises for cardio.  You do need to get the heartbeating faster, as i have read so.

Also, a self-reminder each morning also helps you keeping positive!

Remember, just imagine if you haven't been doing any of what you have done, then even more you have nothing to show for.

Few adjustments won't hurt, and watch out what you 'drink', those are calories you may not be aware of.  Stick with lots of water, water, water - you are even teaching your kids the right kind of drink as they grow older.

Lots of luck to you!!!
