I was walking the dog the other night and had taken along my new Canon Digital.

I was joking around with a couple of local policemen and they asked to look at the camera and took my photo.

When I got home I put it on the computer and had a look.... now that was an OMG moment!

I can't tell you how informative this topic and the resulting replies have been.

Last year I gave up alcohol and went on a diet resulting in a 20kg weight loss and still losing. Instead of beer I started having a few diet sodas every day and last week realised I was getting close to a daily 6 pack. Then two days ago I ran out and rather than make the 20km run to the shop to resupply I decided to wait until the end of the week. For a whole day I had a head ache and blurry vision, almost like a low level migraine attack. Yesterday I went to town and stocked up and the relief was instantaneous after the first can.

Now what?

This girl still out rocks singers half her age. Saw her open a Dylan concert once and she stole the show.

I was lost in a valley of pleasure.
I was lost in the infinite sea.
I was lost, and measure for measure,
love spewed from the heart of me.
I was lost, and the cost,
and the cost didn't matter to me.
I was lost, and the cost
was to be outside society.

Love ya Patti.

I live in Northern Thailand and it's hard to get a lot of stuff used in Western cooking. The red beans only come in one brand and it's like trying to soften up ball bearings. I know someone who "crock potted" them for eight hours without success.

I'm going to Australia for a couple of weeks nect month for a couple of weeks and will return with ample supples of goodies like dried peas, lentils, dried beans etc.

My problem with buying stuff online is my bank won't let me use my credit cards when I order from outside my home country. Don't ask me why.

Weight Loss Unhealthy Friends Dec 12 2008

I can relate to this. Fortunately I live in a situation where my wife and I essentially prepare our own meals due to cultural differences but once  a year I stay with friends in another country who drink heavily, (as I used to) and eat large fatty meals.

When I go next month I'm just going to say NO. I'll insist on smaller serves and leave what I don't want on the plate. I'll go out and buy fruit and low calorie snacks and if they complain I'll preach to them about healthy living and weight loss. This will certainly shut them up. Smile

Because I've got so many other people to catch up with I'll eat out a lot, then I can choose what I want to eat.

Thanks for that, I ended up using olive oil after all that, I thought it would go better with the wine.

I was amazed, I poured the wine into the pan and never even contemplated having a glass. The bottles been sitting on the table for a week now. Six weeks alcohol free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of diet foods I like to number

Ranking top is the great cucumber.

When good intentions start to crack

Nothing rates like a cucumber snack

When with diet pains you have to grapple

Chomp one down just like an apple.

(OK, OK, I'm not giving up my day job just yet).

Thank you everybody, I'm really looking forward to being part of your community.

I'm still working out my way around the forum and website and will no doubt get to everything I need eventually with help from you all.

I'm a big guy, well over six foot, 180cms, and have always been fit through working hard but just let myself go over the last few years. I lived on my own for a few years after my first marriage broke up and it was just too easy to start throwing things in the fry pan at meal times even though I'm not a bad cook; I was the main cook for my family for most of my marriage.

I suspect I may be under estimating my calories, I need to get used to calculating the food portions. I'll keep away from alcohol for now, I don't want it so I won't bother with it. I live in a fairly isolated area so there's no social pressure to drink, which helps a lot.

What do you think of packet rice porridge (congee/khau tom) as a breakfast cereal substitiute? It's high in salt... is that a bad thing if you're drinking lots of fluids?

I'll agree with cheat meals rather than cheat days.

Personally I eat what I like for a cheat meal but less of it. No "stomach stretchers"!

And only cook what you think you should eat, NO leftovers. They call out to you from the fridge in the middle of the night....
