Weight Loss But I do it anyway...what do you STILL do, when you know better? Feb 17 2009

Yeah, sugar is definitely my Kryptonite...no wait Kryptonite was a good thing....wasn't it?  I can't remember....lol!

I crave Pepsi.........at 3am.............at 8pm......it doesn't matter when, I've even dreamed about the stuff!

I am joining TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) today, it's not a diet group as much as it is an accountability group. If I know I have to weigh in in front of someone each week then Pepsi looses its power over me. I like the idea of SENSIBLY......no fads there, no 15 pound weight losses in a week...just sensible ideas and calm (Pepsi free) thoughts.

May I join you?

My stats are not as close as the others but I like the idea of posting daily and my goal weight is the same as yours. I am 45 years old, 5 foot 3 and 189 pounds right at this moment, I've set up a two week mini "goal/threat". I am going to post a picture of myself in this skin tight (today, anyway) dress on my public profile. If I am good for the next 14 days it will be a source of accomplishment, if I am not then it will be a motivator. The dress is for dancing and it is really tight in all the good places, my stomach looks like I inhaled a tuba so that is the area I want to work on most this next two weeks. I used to go to Weight Watchers and did extremely well (lost 60 pounds in 1.5 years) and it was the weekly weigh in that kept me "thinking".......I knew some other person on this planet would know my true weight and it kind of kept me in a "Holy cow!" frame of mind that worked.

I love this site!  Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

wow there are such insightful women on CC!!  Love that "they make nice heaters" comment!!! FUNNY

I had a similar situation, I cried over him for 3 months and then I met the "perfect" man.....and I wondered why I cried for so long when this great guy was out there looking for me...........think of it that way, maybe the ex BF was blocking your view of your perfect mate. It will feel like the sky has fallen for a little while but keep busy and keep looking for your rainbow...it's coming!

Weight Loss 2008- review your year! Dec 12 2008

2008 was a weird year. I had had 10 surgeries the year before to fix my arm, it was crushed in a motor vehicle crash. I got the final cast off in early December and was celebrating freedom and seeing a light at the end of my physical tunnel. I was walking every day and I had lost 9 pounds by February.  Then I found out in March that the bone wasn't healing right and that I needed more surgeries, I was pretty bummed out. I had 5 surgeries in May of 2008 and spent the summer in a cast. My daughter was home this summer and she and I tried Atkins, she lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks and I lost 11 but, sticking to that was really hard (I LOVE Pepsi!) So, since August I have gained and lost the same 5-6 pounds. I am realizing that you cannot eliminate one food group and expect to stick to a plan. I joined CC in Nov 08 and have found 3 friends, I  enjoy writing to them as we learn of each others goals. This is a lifetime change, it's not a one time diet to reach a short term goal. As I look to 2009 I need to remember that Pepsi Cola will not need to ask the government to bail them out if I quit drinking Pepsi.............hahahahahahahaha!!!!

Hey babygtbck,  you can always plan the day ahead and type in what you plan to eat in advance and if things change you just delete it. I have been amazed what I have been eating when I thought I was eating pretty healthy. This week I have shopped the outsides of the grocery store, veggies, fruits, calcium, lean meats and some high fiber breads. I go with what I am hungry for, today I planned on burgers for dinner and so I ate lightly early on to save the calories. I will serve hubby regular buns but mine will be a double fiber English muffin for extra nutrition. I had no idea 1,200 calories was this easy to stay on.......but I did give up Pepsi....heck, I was consuming 44 ounces a day!

AJTIMES24U, thanks, I would never go out in public dressed in anything like that unless it looks good, just putting the challenge on the internet has made it "real"........like, I BETTER do well!!!

Health & Support Underactive Thyroid Dec 02 2008

I had thyroid cancer and my thyroid had stopped working all together. I was gaining weight despite exercising every day and eating very healthy. I had always been fit and thin until that developed. I had the thyroid removed and they put me on thyroid medication and it's been 16 years and I have had no recurrence of the cancer. To answer your question: my symptoms were, I was tired all the time, even after 8 hours of sleep. I was lethargic and did not want to do things after work or on weekends. I was cold all the time and I lived in Florida then! My hair began to get really thin and fall out, not a lot at once but it just was so sparse (I was 24 when this all began) I really didn't have much of an appetite, that was the maddening part, I was gaining weight and wasn't eating all that much.

It is a pretty simple fix, they put you on thyroid medication and within about 6 weeks your blood level will get back to normal and you'll feel pretty good again.

Hope this helps, relax, modern medicine has you covered!

Yes, country western is the way! You can go to a bar and listen to the band and I've never seen any grinding going on there (Wyoming or Colorado, anyway!) In Jackson Hole there is a bar called The Stagecoach and on Sunday nights there are like 25 young women and 15 really old cowboys and they dance like there's no tomorrow....I never would have thought young women would dance with men this old (we're talking 60's and UP!) but they all have a great time and are very very talented!

Would love to join your group!

You know about the Pepsi thing so I am forgiven????  hahahaha!

Tomorrow is a new day and it is supposed to be sunny and warmer (50's...woooo hoooo!)

I have that dress that's on my profile as my reward........does anyone have rewards for success?  I'd love to hear about them.  I used to buy jeans one size small and hang them by the mirror so I looked at them every morning when I was dressing and it helped alot. That dress will show all those Pepsi's and other indiscretions if I am not careful............can't have that!

I have been looking for a challenge that was short term.......I hope I am not too late on this one. Ten pounds by New Years? Sure I can do that!

I will weigh in tomorrow and go from there, I have this event in January that I want to look smokin' for and need to do it NOW!!!!

I do intervals on the treadmill and cycle on the trainer as well as roller skate once a week, it's winter here so the outdoor activities are getting fewer.

I am going to up the ante by saying since I began late I will give up Pepsi until January 23 (geez! did I just type that!!!!)  since I began CC I have noticed that a large portion of my daily calories comes from Pepsi and if I replace that with plain old water I will be able to lose weight quicker.

So, here goes 31 days to New Years!

  1. WOW!!!! 35 pounds is awesome!!!  Dang, I kept losing the same 10 pounds all summer.......kept finding me!  You should be proud! and I am sure you're not ugly....we've all got a beautiful side, just keep turning until you find it......or get dizzy!
  2. I am in Colorado at 6,250 feet and we've had 2 snowstorms already this season, it all melted of course. Maybe you could get some chains for your scooter? and a big airhorn to honk at the places where they didn't shovel!
  3. I do not know why there are numers at the beginning of each sentence nor why the first paragraph is larger than the others
  4. We are all on the same journey, some of us will arrive sooner or have more hills but we can all do this.

Hi Zoe,

I joined CC a week ago and have been looking for a "friend" to do this with as well. I am 44 years old and live in Colorado at 6,250 feet elevation (I hope these conversions won't be too hard) I want to lose 40 pounds to begin with to be within normal BMI ranges and then very slowly work the rest off. I used to weight 125 pounds AFTER giving birth to my only daughter. I developed thyroid cancer 4 years after she was born and in 6 years time I had gained 101 pounds despite exercising 60 minutes a day 5 days a week!  they got my thyroid medication right and I lost 60 of the 101 pounds in 2 years. Wow, did it feel good!  I then broke my arm in January and my foot in September and all those weeks/months in casts gave me a good excuse to quit exercising and once you stop exercising it seems like the food things falls away as well. I only gained back 20 pounds but heck! that's one third! So now I am here to lose those 20 and another 20 and we'll see how I look and feel and go from there.

I have a friend who went through IVF 4 times and gained alot of weight as well, she finally adopted a baby and has lost 80 pounds in the past 2 years, she swears it's from chasing the baby!

Well, in order to be of support, tell me what makes you eat the wrong foods or too much food? I am an emotional eater, I eat when I am sad, anxious, happy......find me an emotion and I'll find a you a Starbucks coffee shop!

My newest motivation is a trip I am planning in January 2009. I am going to Jackson Hole, Wy. it's a tiny little ski town in the Teton Mountains in Wyoming, they have the coolest bar.....The Million Dollar Cowboy bar and they have dancing and bands every night. I found this dress online and right now I'd look like a Polish sausage stuffed in that dress, BUT, if I am good and exercise like I should and stay out of Starbucks I could look pretty fabulous by January 23rd. So I have 8 weeks to do this and I KNOW I can do it..............but a little help from a friend would be wonderful.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day in America, it's supposed to be a day of thanks for the bountiful harvest but in our day and age people use it as an excuse to eat until they are in pain. I am planning a small dinner and will only eat what will go on my Eat Meter and stay within my calories for the day.

Well, if you're interested in doing this together I'd love to be a motivator!

Hi there!

This site is awesome as far as keeping track of what you put in your mouth, the trick is stopping that Mocha Frapaccino from ever being made! I have been amazed at WHAT I actually eat.........44 oz of Pepsi today??? OMG!

I lost 60 pounds 4 years ago and have managed to keep 40 of them off. I had thyroid cancer and it wreaked havoc on my body, but I began exercising (NO DON'T LEAVE!!! it gets better....I promise!) I started out on this creaky old Scwinnn single speed bike.........at 5am so no one would see me........LOL!  It took about 6 weeks and I noticed one morning that the shadow from the streetlights was skinnier!!! Woooo Hooooo, that was all I needed, I went to the bike store and bought a Cannondale....damn! that thing was FAST!  It took me 2 years to lose 60 pounds but I felt so good and was wearing sexy skinny clothing and not feeling tired at all.

My newest motivation: In 8 weeks I am going dancing in Jackson Hole, Wy at the Million Dollar Cowboy bar and I want to look HOT! If you can find a short term goal that excites you (Valentines Day is only 13 weeks away) a particular time when you want to see results by, then it will be easier. OR a particular piece of clothing (if clothing excites you) I found a dress that is a knockout and it is 2 sizes too small for me currently (I even wrote the company that makes it and asked if they'd make a larger one for me...........geez!) BUT if I want to wear that dress in 8 weeks I have NO CHOICE but to count my calories and exercise. I have other dresses I can wear, but I want to wear THAT ONE!

I also wear this gaudy cubic zirconium ring on my left hand and whenever I want to eat something I know will push me over for the day I look at that ring (it is pretty sparkly!) and it reminds me that I am but a diamond in the rough. Sometimes something as simple as that is all it takes to keep us on the right track.

I hope some of this helped!

Try Goodwill or Salvation Army or any thrift store......yeah, there used but you won't find them cheaper anywhere else and once you wash them they're yours. I used to live in West Palm Beach, Fla. and Palm Beach had the coolest thrift stores, sometimes you'd find things with tags still on them!
